Live TV EPG - The update you’ve been waiting for

Do you happen to know where they obtain their guide data from?

I’m guessing (and it really is a guess) the Humax boxes are obtaining the data from the DVB MHEG / EIT streams?

After the frustrations yesterday, the guide I’m using is now Gracenote. It’s much improved. especially the forward schedule which is far greater than the previous EPG. The intermission break is deeply frustrating but at least with more forward data, Plex has a chance of re-scheduling clashes.

No clue for Humax
Over the air EPG grabber for TVHeadend
I have requested an option within plex on these forums to use OTA EPG - It just works in TVHeadend and presumably would be easy enough to program - Of course its only data and not I believe artwork which is where the likes of Gracenote excel

This EPG is a disaster, here in Italy is totally wrong, many channels are mising many other have different logo, name programs.
Is it possible not to have the EPG, is there an option to disable any EPG and have just the list of channels that I can modify name them and sort in the order I want?

Yeah me too - I ran Windows Media Center for almost 10 years with XBoxes for extenders and even a Linksys DMA2200 at one point and I remember all the trouble we had with the quality of the online guide data back then, until Microsoft integrated information from the DVB streams - I think they also implemented Red Button support as well.

In some respects the issues we have seen with the Tivo data does seem a little Deja Vu to me!

I think the quality of the online data has definitely improved over the years and the Gracenote data is far superior to that of Tivo’s as we have seen.

Like you say there are definitely advantages to it such as artwork and series information, but I do feel that combining some of the information from the DVB streams would improve Plex’s DVR - especially when recordings can automatically adjust to the start and finish times from the channel

We seem to have lost the ability to browse by “Sports” (not in the second drop-down list on the Browse page anymore). I hope this is being worked on.

Recreated my DVR, canceled all scheduled recordings, and recreated them. Am definitely on Gracenote and my DVR is not recognizing recording conflicts. I have two tuners and it “recorded” three shows at 9 PM CST this evening. I noticed it didn’t give me an error when I scheduled three recordings at the same time. It ignored my recording priority, as well. Is this an EPG issue or a broader PMS issue? I rebooted PMS this morning after recreating my DVR yesterday.

Version 1.21.0.3711

I think I have a work around the no part 1 / part 2 info on Midsomer Murders (and others) on BBC First Holland with a small shell script, happy with the new EPG despite this small issue

@aggie71013 - What platform are you on, what tuner do you have, and in Plex Web if you go to Settings -> Manage -> LiveTV & DVR then how many tuners does it show available?

I’m on the same version of Plex as you, running on Linux, with 2 available tuners and have made the switch to Gracenote - and yesterday when trying to add a recording it did warn me that I already had two items scheduled at that time, and gave me options to manage. I changed priorities around and the planned recordings updated as expected. It does appear that it can work, though I’m not doubting that it isn’t working for you.

I also did a test after reading this post and all seemed fine. One thing to note though is that with the schedule bringing down many more days worth of data, Plex is able to re-schedule a lot more conflicts. It took quite a lot for my test to eventually find conflicts…

And it’s fair to point out that we haven’t always made it clear when we’ve found a future airing to resolve the conflict. It’s one area we wanted to improve after the switch to TiVo but we got so bogged down fighting fires that it never happened. Hope to revisit this soon.

My first impressions, from the UK, the meta data is a million times better and matching seems to be more successful when the recording is in the library. So that is great, thankyou for this change!

I’ve seen the ‘New’ tags problem with some shows, aware that is already listed as a problem. Also the channel images aren’t great, a couple missing (specifically 103 - ITV) and some just don’t work on a dark background… I’m sure I read on a thread that is also a known issue too though.

A warning for next week if not already aware there are more channel movements happening in the UK. I wish they would just give it a rest, I’m sick of retuning. Think it starts tomorrow (7th Dec)

Lastly, one issue I don’t think I’ve seen mentioned, yet… I’ve got a couple of channels in my region (OX13) being marked as HD when they aren’t. In fact I don’t think any channel below 100 is HD period.

  • 50 - The Jewellery Channel
  • 56 - The Smithsonian Channel
  • 64 - Freesports

that’s right.

I’m OK (OX25) so it’s not a consistent thing.

Will we be getting this ability back or is it lost for good?

This will be back.

Unfortunately it was raised during the beta testing but still hasn’t been fixed.

For me I’m seeing the following channels advertised as HD in addition to the normal HD line up:

  • TJC (Channel 50)
  • Smithsonian (Channel 56)
  • Blaze +1 (Channel 80)
  • Racing UK (Channel 261)

I also have the Sky Arts HD icon instead of the Sky Arts icon for Channel 11 - although it is correctly listed as a standard definition channel.

Right ok, cheers. Good it is logged at least.

Ah Blaze +1 is also in my HD list after having another look, mine was unchecked as there is nothing to tune to. As for Racing UK my tuner doesn’t even find it, although I did just read they are switching it off at the end of the month anyway.
Racing TV will be ceasing its Freeview and YouView channel service

Yes I also see the Sky Arts HD image. Also my ITV HD (Channel 103) is missing an image, but SD is fine.

Got excited when I stumbled on this massive about-face (I’m in Sydney, Australia)…

Then I re-setup my DVR… and now I’m wishing I’d stayed with Ice TV EPG… at least for a bit longer.

I’m using an HDHomeRun CONNECT QUATRO (HDHR5-4DT).
It seems that the SD channels all look right, but the HD versions of the main FTA channels (i.e. 9HD, 10HD, 7HD, etc) it is mapping wrong channel EPG data.
Trying to work out what “1CNANZ (Network Ten)” is vs “SCNANZ (Network Ten)” is in the Gracenote EPG channel guides is a nightmare.

Is there a published document somewhere that lists all these channel guide codes and explains what the EPG believes them to map to?

The ‘HD Channels Only’ filter is still showing some channels which are not HD:

050, 056, 064, 080 & 261 are not HD.

Also as you can see from the screen capture I am seeing a few 'Unknown Airing’s

UPDATE: For me the ‘Unknown Airings’ are only showing when the HD filter is applied.

E.g. HD filter applied BBC ONE & BBC Four and others show ‘Unknown Airing’:-
