Live TV EPG - The update you’ve been waiting for

Yet the following shows on Drama have new tags but originally aired years ago on the BBC:

  • Holby City - Series 14 - from October 2011 to October 2012
  • Casulty - Series 22 - from September 2007 to August 2008
  • EastEnders - from 1997

For example:

Note: The Freeview guide does not advertise these as New.

Today, I noted a glitch with my DVR EPG which is important to me personally.

I am located in Germany and my cable TV provider is Vodafone/Kabel Deutschland.
EPG-Region: Deutschland (erweitert) (981 channels)

On Aug 11th, the channel “RTLplus” (channel number 899) will broadcast new episodes of the TV series “Killer Couples: Mörderische Paare” (original title: Snapped: Killer Couples) which are missing from my EPG which only shows “Unknown Airing”.

This is the schedule in August:

As you can see, there are four airings of two different episodes on the evening of Aug, 11 and the following night (btw. the image also shows which airings should show the NEW flag).

But for Plex EPG, it is only showing TWO blocks of “unknown airing” (instead of showing four episodes filling those two blocks).

One block of “unknown airing” starts on Auf 11, 5:45pm and ends at 9:50pm.

The second block of “unknown airing” starts at 11:30pm and ends at 1am on Aug12.

After finding out about this glitch, I manually refreshed EPG data - but it did not change anything.

I cannot schedule a recording (you cannot do that with an “unknown airing”). I do not even see the TV show popping up in my EPG, so I cannot program it to record all episodes.

@sa2000 and others: Can you please fix it in time for Aug 10 (to allow for some time to do the update and schedule the recordings) and please also make sure that on the following weeks, we do not encounter the same problems again?

Thank you very much in advance.

EDIT:
Here’s the complete and official program of RTL plus scheduled for Aug 11:

They reincarnate the TV show “Killer Couples: Mörderische Paare” (original title: Snapped: Killer Couples) with a new title: “Mordmotiv Liebe - Wenn Paare töten”.

I believe this channel is yet to get guide data.

Yes I noticed. Don’t know why Gracenote did this as interim fix ! I have requested that they remove these generic logos and we would wait for the real ones.

I can see EPG schedule data showing for channel 91 That’s TV Gold

I see it now. Thank you.

This could be similar to the issue covered here Live TV EPG - The update you’ve been waiting for - #1113 by sa2000

I have passed on the details to our ingestion team. The gaps may get corrected closer the time.

As a side - regarding Vodafone lineups - there was feedback from Gracenote that Vodafone is now covered by Horizon and Giga TV lineups,

Thank you.
But how do I record this in case these specific gaps do not get filled?
Maybe it’s time for a new feature for this? Perfect EPD data will stay a dream. You guys are no dreamers…

Maybe they should enable manual recordings that allow you to select a channel and time to record, like every other DVR software I have used in the last 20 years. This has been requested for years and ignored.

It appears to be too simple for Plex, but they need to accept that guide data is never going to be perfect (and it’s a long way short of that at the moment) and giving a simple work around would be useful to all their DVR customers.

May a special request be placed with Gracenote to add more “New” tags to shows in Ireland? It is almost non existent at the moment. Thank you.

Just to catch up with that issue.
The “unknown airings” gaps have been filled.
NEW tags to the "Mordmotiv Liebe - Wenn Paare töten” slots is still missing.

Whilst I missed the airing of Guy Martin: The World’s Fastest Electric Car? on Monday 9th August at 21:00 on Channel 4 and I am grateful to the repeats that are being shown on 4seven (Channel 48) over the next week, these repeats are being identified as individual episodes rather than the same episode:

As can be seen the airings are prefixed with the date of the repeat:

  • 11/8/21 at 21:00
  • 14/8/21 at 02:50
  • 15/8/21 at 22:00

Thank you - this has now been fixed.

I noticed there was some discussions about some Finnish TV channels (mainly Nelonen, Liv, Jim) - EPG is not working for those channels with my setup. There is only text Available soon (roughly translated) on those channels with EPG. Is there any news on these? Nelonen is one of three biggest providers, and without them DVR would be quite useless.

There is not, the comments we made with Live TV EPG - The update you’ve been waiting for - #1117 by samip5 and Live TV EPG - The update you’ve been waiting for - #1118 by HeinonenTeemu were pretty much ignored by @sa2000 by the looks of it.

@sa2000, what is the name of the previous provider?

I have nothing further on this beyond what I posted here Live TV EPG - The update you’ve been waiting for - #1116 by sa2000

I have escalated the issue with Denmark and Finland lineups internally for discussions with Gracenote

We were with Gracenote originally, switched to TiVo and now back again with Gracenote

Hi,

I managed to make my own scraper for these problematic channels. How could I combine Plex’s inbuild EPG and my own XML EPG (only for those few missing channels)?

Thanks in advance!

EDIT: I’m using HDHomeRun Connect Quattro, if that helps.

here’s some good info on getting the Shield to talk to Plex

and:

Repeats of “The Good Place” are showing on Freeview Channel 30 - 4 Music again and the episode data seems a little messed up for Series 2:

  • The series and episode numbers are missing for the first two episodes
  • Whilst episodes 3 onwards are all listed as 2 onward:

The Good Place - Series 2 Episode Data

Freeview is showing the data correctly. For example: Thursday 9th at 00:30 shows as S2 Ep1/13:

The Good Place - Series 2 Episode Data - Freeview

Something similar happened last December for Series 3 - as mentioned here - so I’m guessing that this is also happening because the first two episodes aired in the US as one long episode vs the UK (and possible other regions) where it aired as two - taken from Wikipedia - and Gracenote and/or Plex is trying to match US centric data:
