Live TV EPG - The update you’ve been waiting for

…Is there a published document somewhere that lists all these channel guide codes and explains what the EPG believes them to map to?

NOVA on the local PBS channel
15.1 in San Diego, CA 92124

The metadata information does seem to be accurate for the program that playing for that time. The problem appears when the recorded program is added to Plex where it’s compared to THETVDB where the episode is different from the EPG that Plex is using.

It appears to be 5 episodes off where the EPG has S49E09 where it’s listed as S49E14 on THETVDB. The EPG has been off for all of season 49.

Regarding PBS shows like Nova and Nature, they are notoriously mismatched. A source of correct season and episode numbering is on your local PBS.org station’s web site.
@chargerdan The same experience is here in Los Angeles with channel 50.1… The EPG from Plex (plex?) does have correct title and sequence, but the tvdb is often mismatched… I may have to get something to update the metadata for the recording by parsing the filename, which also matches up, for Nova. I categorize PBS shows into their own library and have recently switched its agent to Personal Media Shows. It works for new recordings, but other recordings defaulted to dates as titles.

My guide listing is only showing the episode name for the show and not the show name. I am trying to record the show “Ghosts” on CBS, thursdays 9m. When I go to the guide it lists only the episode name. This is the case for multiple weeks. I have refreshed the guide metadata to no avail.

When I try to search for the show name I cannot find it.
When I try to record it from the guide listing it only lets me record the single instance. It does not know it is a recurring show, nor does it list the show name at all.

Hi, I am missing several channels from the Local Broadcast Listings EPG, That I cannot enable due to no corresponding channel or the channel does not match the EPG.

This is confusing to me as the HDHomeRun Software Correctly lists these channels and their respective guides, however Plex does not. I Would very much like the option to enable these channels without an associated EPG channel, as that would at least let me see them.

Hi, Several Freesat channels are inacurate or are missing from the listings. This is for the Northern Ireland region, specifically BT41.

Inaccuate

103 UTV should be UTV HD
111 UTV HD should be UTV

Missing (Both these channels are now free to air)

126 Channel 4HD not in listing, still showing as a protected channel
151 DMAX + 1 missing from listing, still showing as a protected channel

Thanks David

Hello, I have noticed that a certain show is not using the correct season/episode ordering that I have configured on my TV Shows Library. Is this part of the gracenote data? If so, how do we get this changed?

example data
postal - 97702
cable provider - bend broadband
channel - 777 FOODPHD (Food Network HD (Pacific)
tv show - Restaurant Impossible

@madoverclocker I did try using Freesat previously with Plex, but could not get all the channels, it appears that the Freesat data is encrypted, so it only picks up the data from Sky with Freesat, hence why it also picks up the encrypted channels. I did manage to get the Channel 4HD by using a standard Satellite viewing software, so I know it is possible to get the channel, just not with Plex.

Seeing this issue on Shield randomly anyone else?

The tuner is HDHomeRun, working fine after restarting Plex app.

Version of Plex Media Server in use: Version 1.27.0.5897

@HomeMediaServer2018 The frequency information that Plex relies on for satellite channels is 6 years out of date. They use ini files that they got from another website. Once you update the relevant one, in my case 282.ini, to the latest version then the DVR setup can scan all the available frequencies. I assume they then use some sort of lookup table to tie the transponder frequencies to their/ gracenotes channel listings. It appears that these to are not correct. For example 4 Music was encrypted/ protected until the start of this year. It then became available on the FreeSat service so it became clear. I am able to select this for the correct listing. Channel 4HD went free to air before this but Plex still shows it as protected. Same with the DMax channels. Were encrypted went free to air years ago. Plex updated DMax so you can select the correct channel for the listing but DMax +1 still shows protected.

@madoverclocker I would be interested to know which tuner you are using as I used the Hauppauge PCTV DVB-S2 461e USB stick and didn’t have to change any .ini files in order to get Plex to scan. The only part I know is that if you have Freesat from Sky it doesn’t include Channel 4HD, only Freesat itself comes with it and I think that’s the issue that the data that Plex is picking up is the data that Freesat from Sky uses and not Freesat.

I currently use the same one connected to a Raspberry Pi 4. Though I did use a TBS6982 dual LNB pcie card in a PC until recently. I have always updated the ini file pretty much since Plex added the Live TV DVR function. If I don’t update it and run a scan I will be missing channels. For example Quest HD, Quest, Quest Red, etc. There are others but those are the ones that come to mind. Digging around the internet, Channel 4HD does seem to be on Sky(with no card) as is DMax+1. I might dig out an old Sky box and see what I can get without the card to confirm. Freesat from Sky seems to be no longer offered, not sure if still supported for existing customers.

@madoverclocker I don’t think that Freesat from Sky is offered, but if you are an existing customer and you purchased your Sky box instead of the new rentals and you stop your subscription then you can get the Freesat version from Sky using that box.

It’s a shame that Plex doesn’t fully support satellite as I think it would bring in a lot more customers to the Plex pass.

Server Version#: PMS for Mac 1.27.0.5878
Player Version#: Plex for Mac 1.45.0.3013; Plex for Apple TV 8.3; Plex for iOS 8.3

It appears that the recently introduced PMS for Mac version 1.27.0.5849 EPG time-zone bug was not fixed.

I live near Seattle, with the local time zone currently being Pacific Daylight Time [UTC -0700].

A local OTA channel PosiTV is broadcast on display channel 20.5 (physical channel 21, program 7).

(My HDHomeRun HDFX-4K tuner reported these metrics 2 June 9:31pm:

SCANNING: 515000000 (us-bcast:21)
LOCK: 8vsb (ss=100 snq=89 seq=100)
TSID: 0x0C4F
PROGRAM 3: 20.1 TBN HD
PROGRAM 4: 20.2 inspire
PROGRAM 5: 20.3 SMILE
PROGRAM 6: 20.4 Enlace
PROGRAM 7: 20.5 POSITIV)

PosiTV’s June 2022 published schedule shows “To Kill a Mockingbird” being broadcast three times back-to-back tomorrow, Thursday 9 June 2022 beginning 5pm PDT (ie, 10 June 12:00am UTC):

5pm PDT – 8pm PDT;
8pm PDT – 11pm PDT; and
11pm PDT 9 June – 2am PDT 10 June.

Please see PosiTV’s published schedule in the PDF file:

https://positiv.tv/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/POSITIV-JUNE-1-30-22.pdf

PMS for Mac 1.27.0.5878, after two complete EPG refreshes still shows the PosiTV schedule dramatically misaligned. It appears that PMS is misinterpreting EPG, presumably, UTC data for PosiTV as PDT (ie, shifting out by 7 hours).

Please see uploaded screenshot PNG file: PMS for Mac 1.27.0.5878 EPG Time Zone Bug.png

This bug only occurred with PMS for Mac version 1.27.0.5849. My wife watches PosiTV almost every day. There has not been a PosiTV schedule issue until after I installed 1.27.0.5849 1 Jun 2022. There was definitely this same 7-hours-off bug occurring very early 5 June when she tried to watch “To Kill a Mockingbird.”

TIA

I tried reverting to three other PMS versions ( 1.27.0.5849, 1.26.2.5797, 1.26.0.5715 ), and with each test: quit PMS from the Mac Menu Bar menu, placed the PMS for Mac application in the host Mac Applications folder, manually launching PMS, restarting the PMS host Mac, rescanning my tuner channels, refreshing the EPG, then restarting the host Mac.

None of these attempts resolved the EPG issue with PosiTV.

Should simply replacing the PMS for Mac application, rescanning tuner channels, and refreshing the EPG be sufficient restore a previous PMS version WRT the EPG?

If so, then I do not think 1.27.0.5849 caused this problem.

I do recall rescanning the tuner channels (from within Plex for Mac > Settings > Live TV & DVR) at about the same time this EPG issue began.

PMS for Mac 1.27.0.5889 (installed 9 Jun 2022, rescanned tuner channels, refreshed EPG, restarted Mac hosting PMS) continues to mis-display EPG data offset by seven (7) hours for the OTA channel:

PosiTV display Channel 20.5 (KTBWDT5)
(physical channel 21 program 7)
Tacoma, WA (broadcast into the Seattle, WA MSA).

It appears that PMS is misinterpreting UTC timestamps as PDT [UTC -0700]. The Seattle local time zone is currently Pacific Daylight Time (PDT [UTC -0700]).

Of the 59 OTA channels my tuner successfully receives, PosiTV is the only channel for which we’ve notice an EPG time zone error.

Hi,
I have noticed that for the channel Court TV this week that every episode of Court TV Live shows the same metadata info as Season 2022 - Episode 86. This is causing Plex to not queue up the recording for any episodes aside from the first. Hopefully this can be fixed, thanks!
