Played some more with the agent settings. Interestingly for TV Shows the actor images are indeed showing up. For one series a few were missing and after selecting “Refresh Metadata” even the missing ones did show.
I would thus rule out connection or time out issues.
So the issue seems to be with how I set up Scanner + Agent for Movies. I wnoder if TV Shows works as it might be grabbing the cast images from TheTVDB and if there maybe is a problem with TMDB.
Played with the movies agent settings, tried disabling “Local Media Assets” and moved “The Movie Database” to the top. Refresh Metadata but no cast images.
The issue is not limited to that music video. It exists for all movies, so something with the music agent settings is wrong or not working.
To make sure I start clean I removed the following data:
Plex/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Plug-in Support/Caches
Plex/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Plug-in Support/Data
Tried the following while refreshing metadata for a test movie after every change:
Agent: Plex Movie, Cast List Source: IMDB
Agent: Plex Movie, Cast List Source: TMDB
Agent: The Movie Database, Cast List Source: Not available as option
For further testing removed and readded a movie to see if that may help trigger Plex finding the cast images. But that movie stays without a cover or any metadata and is not found at all. Odd since that movie did previously have metadata. Also Rematching the movie fails with “Agent was unable to find a match”.
Sent new logs after searching for metadata for that movie. Maybe they have some info?
Not sure if a repair would resolve this issue. The oldest database backup file I see is 9 days old. All backup files are from this month so opting for the repair database method.
As PMS is on a Synology, do I run the commands for macOS as that is the computer I am using? Tried to cd in the database folder on the NAS in Terminal and then run the macOS commands to run a repair. That resulted in:
cp com.plexapp.plugins.library.db com.plexapp.plugins.library.db.original
Creates a copy of the database “com.plexapp.plugins.library.db.original”
sqlite3 com.plexapp.plugins.library.db “DROP index ‘index_title_sort_naturalsort’”
Error: unable to open database file
Copied the database file to the mac and did repair steps. Good news is, Plex is now again able to find the movie. Updating and fetching missing cast images for TV shows works.
What is still not working is updating movie cast images. Another round of logs sent. Would be great if you could take a peek and let me know if I really need to start fresh.
Re: screencast: that was pre database repair, hence the name. Please disregard and if it added confusion sorry, wasn’t my intention. Idea was to give a full picture.
Can you share where in the logs you find the two problematic entries you mention? Once I know where to look I can try to debug this and check if things improve.
I am wondering if both entries are also pre-database-repair. Keep in mind any log with date yesterday and earlier would be related to the database corruption. Currently the movie is found, metadata is found and the movie plays. Everything as expected except for cast images.
Disabled IPv6 in Plex > Server > Network and DSM > Network > Network-Interfaces > IPv6
Original issue with cast images is unresolved and having a hard time to understand, how missing cast / actor images relate to local router settings as other TMDB metadata is showing and information is retrieved just fine.
mirrored that setup and actor / cast images are still not showing up. also embedding movie posters here so moving that option to the top makes sense I guess.
the only difference is that you are also using the new plex beta agent. so maybe that is what worked on your end?
Could it be that Plex is hitting rate limits? Testing the new beta agent will cause lots of searches.
Can try this. Can you specify step 3 and 4. For #3 Delete Plex user where? Which plex user would be using the new setup or is that also possible without any user at all? And for #4 which exact folder is that? where is it located in the plex volume on the NAS?
stuck at step 8. Although that NAS partition is showing in finder with all folders, I can not select the subfolder on that partition holding the media including the new test folder with a few movies. This is interesting and I am not sure what I would do about that.
Control Panel > Users > Edit > Permissions and added the volume. Didn’t know there was further manual interaction necessary. Done now.
After the setup the new movie library on the new server has the same problem. All movies do not have cast / actor images. Updating metadata does not change that.
Afaik there is no public tracker, so do you know if this problem is even known / tracked in the internal tracker? That would be the first step to get any action going I assume.
Actor / cast images just loaded fine for TV shows but not for movies or the music example from the first post of this thread. So this continues to be hit and miss.
