Movies not getting added to Plex

Hi all, first time posting. Just updated plex server to 1.26.1.5798-7000 on my synology DS416Slim. I’ve added two new movies to the folder where I keep movies and they aren’t getting added to the library. They are encoded like every other movie on the box, (possibly I’m not encoding the best way possible, but I’m using Aiseesoft MP4 Video Converter set to Apple TV H.264 video) and all other movies play and show up fine. I have the naming and tags set using MetaX for all of the movie info on the file names. Every other movie works fine, just the two latest movies don’t show up at all in the library. Any idea on how to start troubleshooting this? Please help!

Simple things first:
Did you already scan your library for updates?

Mind sharing some details about the file names / metadata (title)?

adding to Tom’s input is to check permissions. That seems to often be the most likely culprit when people can’t see something in their library on a syno.

I’ve got the Plex server set to scan every hour. Content was put there yesterday. The file name is “Spider Man Far from Home.MP4”. Permissions haven’t changed, plex is running on the synology that the drive is on for the content. It’s not on another device. Plex is running under the Admin account and has full permissions. “Spider-Man Into The Spider-Verse.mp4” shows up in the library so I know it’s not a naming convention issue.

Would you mind doing the following?

  1. Settings - Server - General - Show Advanced
  2. Make certain DEBUG logging is enabled and VERBOSE is disabled.
  3. Now go to that library section and “Scan Files”.
  4. When it’s complete, Wait a minute for the NAS to quiesce.
  5. Settings - Server - Troubleshooting (lower left corner of Plex/web)
  6. Download Logs
  7. Attach the ZIP it gives you and we’ll look

Here are the logs.
Plex Media Server Logs_2022-05-18_10-47-29.zip (3.4 MB)

You do seem to have a permission problem on that share.
That log is full of Permission denied messages for various top-level folders in your Movies share.

Can you verify the system account PlexMediaServer has at least read access to this share?

What a trip, that was it. I guess PlexMediaServer is new and did not have permissions even though the Plex account did have permissions. Thanks guys! They’re showing up now!

@leemack33

Here’s both the initial and finalize release information I wrote ( I am the package developer for Plex )

The initial release info – tells you what changed.

Shows and details the final configuration after DSM 7 stabilized (where we are now)

I’ve updated the Syno FAQ to reflect DSM 7
