Hi, heimzgi
for the moment the plex package is still not compatible it is still necessary to wait
I know what I’m talking about because I’m the one who’s open in september
So wait & see
Hi trumpy
I may read the thread again but there is nothing new about the compatibility of plex with the dsm 7 beta as for dsm 7 preview.
For the moment it is always the same method that we must use
Open Control panel
Open Task Scheduler
Create a new triggered task
General ->
Task: Start Plex
User: Root
Event Boot-Up
Task Settings ->
user-defined script:
sudo /var/packages/Plex\ Media\ Server/scripts/start-stop-status start
Select the task and click Run
You can also create a task to stop the plex server.
sudo /var/packages/Plex\ Media\ Server/scripts/start-stop-status stop
Best regards
That which you have posted is for DSM 6 only.
It is NOT compatible with DSM 7.
Today, we opened the forum preview for DSM 7 with DSM 7-compatible packages.
DSM 7 - Plex Media Server - Release Info & Migration instructions
Your information is out of date
I went through this information
but this manipulation also works on the dsm 7 preview to have used it
I’m gonna go check out the package compatible dsm 7 beta
best regards
Forgive me?
I don’t care what manual methods may work on DSM 7.
There is one supported mechanism.
Regrettably, non-compliance with supported mechanisms does put one in a position of not being supportable in any way as we will never know the true state of the host.
I didn’t say it works normally, that’s why the mecanism was removed lol
Come on, I’m gonna watch champion’s league
thank you for the work done to allow us to use plex again
Confirm for me please?
-
You’ve removed the DSM 6 package on DSM 7 workaround?
-
You’re using Plex as it should be?
(i’ve been working realllllllly long hours and am exhausted – sorry)
I want to know you’re up and running normally… that’s all
How stabil is plex now on DSM 7.0 ?
Works flawlessly since yesterdays beta release, here on a 918+
I cant tell how thankful i am for the Team and especially @ChuckPa here! Great work guys
On behalf of the team, thank you all for the kind words.
There were a lot of long nights coupled with some serious scampering to keep up with last-minute changes.
Okey, i think i will install DSM 7.0 too
I am so grateful that Plex works on day one of DSM 7 beta! It runs smoothly, as if nothing has changed (which is a good sign
)
Overall RAM usage on my NAS is a bit higher than before, can’t tell if it’s DSM7 or Plex that isn’t fully optimized yet. Not a big problem though, it all runs smooth.
We effectively started this journey way back in PMS 1.15.4.994 when I reduced the privilege level needed to be that of a regular user.
Since that time, Plex hasn’t had any special privileges except when installing.
When Synology came out with DSM 7.0, and removed ‘root’ from us, their working with us to provide alternatives is what made this possible.
We are, as they (and any reasonable person) want;
- A fully atomic package which doesn’t stick itself into the host system
- Asks nicely for those system services it needs.
- Lives within its means.
… and we are starting to get a GUI
I will add: When installing for DSM 7, please be attentive to all the steps as this is a two-step migration (unavoidable).
With the DS 920+ i have to download the intel 64-bit version right?
yes. that’s right.
Great work Chuck! Thanks a bunch!
I have now made the update.
Everything worked without any problems.
I even find that it loads a lot faster than before.
Thanks to the team.
Plex says an update is available.
I suppose I shouldn’t install this?
Oh, I guess I missed that.
Thank you!
I have updated mine yesterday on a DS3617xs, and I was due to perform a refresh on all metadata (I’ve changed the default language for all libraries). It’s running flawlessly and smoothly since then. Again I like to take the opportunity to thank @ChuckPa and all the team for the efforts made, worth every night spent! Well done guys!
