New EPG and release

Most every program is back to a description of the show, not the episode. Really ridiculous. Yes I did a manual refresh.

DFW market, United States, OTA

Do we have an ETA on the return of FORCES and Smithsonian channels no listings available since change in EPG providers on PLEX?

its never ending with this i guess?

Now my NYC guide data which i would imagine is one of hte few that is accurate in the system shows ā€œTo be Announcedā€ for all programming today. sigh.

Yeah, I refreshed this morning and am now seeing this as well on almost every channel. That’s almost 200 of them…

omg this has gotten completely out of hand, i appreciate they are trying to fix this but if you dont want to lose 50% of your paying live tv/dvr customers this year I would highly recommend you do what I said originally. pay gracenote whatever it takes to turn it back on short term, use that time to fix your system that you didnt seem to realize was completely broken before forcing on everyone and then turn it back to the new guide data once its fixed.

does plex even have a beta test team that reports back these issues or do they test on like 1 machine and it looks good with its guide and dvr and so they roll it out? i mean seriously my patience has fully run out.

there ARE alternatives now like emby and hdhomerun’s system.

EDIT: part of the problem is it says 1/1/17 for those to be announced.

Welp. Add me to the list. Yet another HUGE problem for plex pass users… All my guide data is going away with to be announced from forever ago… I am not on the latest version as I don’t feel comfortable upgrading from the fact I haven’t been able to see my dvr’s… But now it probably doesn’t matter as my shows probably won’t record or anybody else paying for plex pass that uses my server… Does the old version before the new epg no longer able to get guide data at all? Even in the US?

well I went ahead and went to the beta version to get past the version that broke tuner functionality for me of 1.16.4… I am now on the beta 1.16.5, and as I suspected the guide is downloaded correctly now…

My opinion is that the older versions prior to going to the new guide server doesn’t know to get the guide data from there, and has been relying on the now non existent guide data. I just hope my tuners stay working within plex on this beta version :frowning: I really wish the plex team would also be a little more active in the forums… There are 528 posts on this thread. With no response in days.

I forced a few refreshes during the day, and it mostly took care of the problem. Didn’t look all the way through the guide, but it looks like everything tonight and onwards has information. So, maybe there was just a snafu with the EPG information.

A couple more minor issues with new tags - but this time the opposite of what you might think:

004 - Channel 4
104 - Channel 4 HD

Thursday 15/08/19

10:10 to 10:35 The Big Bang Theory S12 E23 - Shows as New (However, it originally aired in the UK on 23/05)
10:35 to 11:00 The Big Bang Theory S12 E24 - Also as New (Originally aired on 23/05 along with E23 as a single ~1 hour show)

Another downside to the new provider is a significantly greater occurrence of missing artwork. Gracenote maybe had a dozen or so missing posters when viewing TV shows. Now there seems to be half a dozen with every single ā€œpageā€ as you scroll down.

It’s basically like that the whole way down.

As far as I know, the EPG does not have ANY poster data. The posters for ā€œshowsā€ come from TheTVDB. (Look under settings, agents.)

I think it’s both.

I remember there being more posters in the actual EPG when browsing the guide when Gracenote was being used. However, if there is no poster info in the EPG, I would think Plex would supplement from the configured agents, but I’m not sure why that’s not happening for @kamhouse.

Many of the missing posters seem to be for more localized or obscure sounding shows. Practically all the nationally recognized shows seem to have their artwork. Perhaps Gracenote was creating makeshift posters for more of this.

Gracenote was definitely providing artwork somehow. I recorded quite a few nostalgic shows and if I cutout the commercials and added them back to a different library it would frequently have different artwork.

It is still in progress. I do not have any further info at the moment

In addition to not having as many posters, a lot of shows that I had recorded before the switch have now lost their posters. Before the switch I had zero recordings without posters, after the switch a ton of shows now have no poster. It’s almost like the metadata was not local at all, but linked to gracenote. Otherwise, I have no idea why all of a sudden my library would look like poster patch work.

The issue with BBC episodes is understood and is currently with our provider to resolve.

The ITV ones need to be looked into. I will check on Emerdale and Coronation Street

It may be overlapping data blocks. Could I have copies of your EPG Plex Media Server databases ?

Location would be same directory as that where the main database is
see https://support.plex.tv/articles/202915258-where-is-the-plex-media-server-data-directory-located/
The subdirectory is Plug-in Support\Databases
There are 3 files to copy out - all with names starting tv.plex.providers.epg.cloud- and with filename suffixes of db db-wal and db-shm

Copy these out and zip and send me the zip by private message

Big problems with the EPG here. I’ve just updated my Synology Nas to the latest pms version and still having the same problem. All shows have a start date and time of Jan 1 at 01.00, so nothing will record as all episodes show as finished.

I only purchased a Plex pass for the DVR and this is useless!
