New EPG and release

Hi @sa2000. I am seeing some ‘Unknown Airing’ slots appearing within the guide and the nature appears to be programme/time (rather than channel) specific. I am hoping to record the programme that should be appearing on E4 at 21:00 on Monday 23rd Sept, but nothing is there at present.

Guide has been manually refreshed and I am using Freview OTA South West in the UK.

Thanks for any help with this as well as your ongoing efforts generally.

I was originally looking at an Android phone client. To answer your question…after further investigation it does show up…if you scroll all the way to the right in the upcoming sports section, it doesn’t show at all…but if you tap on upcoming and get the full list…then it does show…if you go a long long way through the list where I would never expect to see it.

As a side note, this brings up another EPG issue…the channel 2.2 for me is an HD channel and is not recognized by plex EPG as HD.

Side note 2: it seems like a bad architecture decision to sort these by HD first then SD…i would never expect this sort of thing to be sorted any way but by time…if there is a tie…9 am vs. 9 am you could break the tie with HD I guess…lower channel number would be my recommendation though…at any rate, sorting by HD vs SD requires the HD and SD data to be correct to make it usefull…which from reading these forums is not a good assumption to make

channel 2.2 has now been corrected as an HD channel. You may need to go through DVR setup / scan channels screen to pick the change

Hi @sa2000, I am seeing a few channels now that are showing Channel No Longer Broadcasting in the guide. However, these channels are indeed broadcasting, but there is really just no guide data for them.

These channels are:
780 - Disney
741 - TV Land
734 - IFC
699 - Freeform

My TV Provider is Verizon Fios - Philadelphia, and my zip code is 19002.

I’ve tried to manually refresh the guide, delete / recreate the tuner, etc. Actually deleting / recreating the tuner seems to have messed up some of the thumbnails, which I can’t figure out how to clear the cache for.

In the example below, the MLB Extra Innings channels now show the NHL Center Ice logo

Any suggestions?

Yes - I have looked into this and we do have gaps appearing in the schedule instead of the actual airings. This has been referred to our engineering team. This can also arise if the Plex Media Server does not fully refresh the guide - but in this case - when it shows after a full refresh, the cause of the problem is different and lies elsewhere. I have opened an issue on this with our EPG team

On the odd occasion it does record, it sorts as “Baseball: A Film by Ken Burns” and fix match doesn’t work at all. It also populates the guide with that thumbnail:

ame issues here with MLB, exactly the same. same issue also where it thinks its some historical show about baseball instead of a game and even plays the silly background music.

Sports are completely broken on plex for me at this time.

any ETA on this being fixed? I recorded the Penn State vs. Pitt college football game today (Sept 14th) and it did the same “Full Color Football” match thing after it finished recording. It clearly isn’t exclusive to the enhanced guide and makes recording football very difficult to actually use. The EPG data is clearly already there as the game has correct EPG data associated with it before it records.

Another EPG issue with sports. I’ve recorded 3 football games in the past week…1 NFL and two college. All had correct “team x vs. team y” EPG when I recorded them. All 3 of them show up as Full Color Football in Plex after the recording completes. Plex then “meshes” the games together making it look like only one recorded. It show up as two different versions of the same recording. (in the graphic I had already deleted one of the games so only two games are left…as you can see the screenshot of the show one of the recordings is Clemson vs. Texas A&M and not some history of football show). I never had this issue with the old EPG.

Whilst the issue relating to mismatches on recorded sport events is still with the development team, I would like to suggest a different setup for recording sports events

Create a separate library for recording sport games.
Edit the library in Plex Web and then click “Advanced”
and scroll down until you get to the Agent and change that from “theTVDB” to “Personal Media Shows”

I changed my main library to Personal Media Shows as you said and it helped a little but didnt fix everything. Baseball games now say what you expect as the title “New York Yankees at Boston Red Sox” instead of just the date. Show is MLB Baseball.

However, the 5 NFL games I recorded on Sunday still show as a single recording with multiple versions for each game and the title is the date. The other stuff fixed retroactively. maybe I need to wait till this sundays games record before I see improvement?

Here is a screenshot that shows the issue, this single NFL “episode” has 3 “versions” each is a full game, the title is the date recorded:

hannel listing issues:
MY EPG went from 40 some channels to 7 - and after deleting and readding the HDHomeRun Extend and a lot of fiddling, I have some of them back, but still lose 14 - including the ones I tended to watch the most.
Why? Because the only guides it is offering are Cable and Satellite - and they don’t carry some of my favorite OTA channels. So I lose Heroes and Icons, Comet, Grit, and a number of other channels.

Yes that appears to arise when there is more than one game on the same day. In my tests, the use of Personal Media agent did result in separate episodes - but my recordings were all for different days.

I set my college and NFL games to record to a separate folder (still contained within my main TV media hierarchy for when it is fixed). I then created a new library of type “Other Videos”.

Scanner “Plex Video Files Scanner”, Agent “Personal Media Scanner”.

This seems to successfully break everything out and supply it with a functional title.

I’m on Freeview STV Central OTA Broadcast.

As a side note, the guide provider still has BBC Scotland HD incorrectly listed as Channel 115, when it’s actually Channel 108. It also still has BBC Four listed as Channel 82, when it is now Channel 75.

I checked my HDHomeRun and it has the right channels listed (75 for BBC Four and 108 for BBCScotHD)

Edited at 17.30 to add: the problem of ‘Unknown airing’ seems to be spreading to ITVBe and most of the radio channels

Well I’m finally back after moving and getting my broadband switched on, and see that the EPG is still in tatters and to read TiVo are bringing out their own streaming dongle to?
Anyway, I’m still keeping quiet as I’ve not set the TV dongles up yet, but I’ve read posts for emby being much better yet again? Still, I’m sticking with Plex because I made the choice for the Lifetime Pass…

There is an Unknown Airing coming up in about an hour at 4:30pm on the local PBS station. The PBS website and a Gracenote powered guide show it as “Freedom Writers: Stories From the Heart”.

The Unknown Airings appear if there are gaps. If these are showing up even after a manual guide refresh (through server settings) then it would be the problem I mentioned in my post here New EPG and release - #782 by sa2000

It is suspected that a recent change introduced this problem and our engineering team are working on reverting that change

I’ve tried what you recommended here. My results are better than the behavior before, but still inconsistent and not as desired. I recorded Wisconsin vs. Michigan (on Fox channel 2.2) and the recording shows up as just 2019-09-21. I also recorded Notre Dame vs. Georgia the same day (CBS channel 13.1) and it shows up correct! I also recorded and NFL game Seahawks vs. Saints today and it shows up just like the Wisconsin vs. Michigan game…just a date and nothing more.

Multiple EPG problems today on Freeview Anglia OTA:

• Doc Martin on Wednesday 25th on ITV1HD at 9pm (s9:e1) is missing the NEW tag
• Many “ITV1 Network Programming” entries between 7pm and 9pm
• Several “Unknown Airing” entries on C4HD and Channel 5 HD, BBC4 HD, BBC News HD, 4+1HD and 4-7 HD
