Can you confirm if there will be a “non-beta” pushed out before the old EPG stops working? i.e. do I need to set up my shield to join the beta program or lose DVR?
@sa2000 So, even with the screwed up EPG, Plex are still going to push out the Public release? Are you prepared for the full backlash of the none beta users? Why not postpone it till the EPG is fully working? The full UK EPG as you know is totally useless, even for recording, it’s bad enough trying to find out whats on.
I may try TVHeadend when my brain can cope with it all, and my remote users/family are all in agreement that Live TV will be down for a short while, but till then, we have to put up with the trashed EPG, at least with the old Gracenote one all we had were a few missing channels, not a screwed up EPG…
Apologies for the moan, it’s just getting a little bit tough now.
Priorities really need sorting, and resources need pouring into the TV/DVR side before it goes totally live in my honest opinion, but what am I to say, I’ve paid my Lifetime pass etc etc… I’m just a user now, one that enjoys beta testing, but thinking it never gets fixed as no one announces whats going on or why it’s delayed, unless one of us asks a Plex “Guru” or Employee.
I’m also fighting to get Android working correctly on Android 6 with the player, but that’s been broken since v7.15.xxx I’m still running 7.14.9xx as it plays from my server, the newer version doesn’t, and yet the “Team” know about it, and yet it seems nothing is being fixed!!
Every channel in my lineup has something wrong. I spent most of the day trying to make the new guide work and am now spending many more hours rolling back and setting schedules back up again. Please don’t roll forward with this. I like Plex a lot, but I am going to have to start exploring alternatives if this rolls out.
I’m curious what benefits Plex is hoping for with the new EPG provider. Is it simply cheaper? Or does it provide more flexibility for hybrid services like the HDHR Premium experiment from last year that used local+cable data?
I am not beta testing and await Monday in trepidation. Can I just check the statement “There should be 14 day of existing guide data anyway before the switchover”. As I understand it you recommend deleting and re-setting up the DVR for a number of problems. Presumably in those cases the guide data will be lost.
Or is there a way to back up and restore guide data?
Even if you backup the guide, it won’t work after 14 days. The new guide works, but to a certain degree. Seems that depending on where you live, Plex EPG is good in I’ve country (USA or parts of) and really bad in another (UK, all regions main 5 plus however many sub regions there are).
You can DIY, as long as you setup something like Tvheadend for the guide grabber and then antennas to link Tvheadend to Plex, which the latter makes Plex think you’re running an hdhomerun which is neat, and it seems this is the direction I will be taking after Monday, so I can carry on the recordings and keep EPG data integrity i.e. Description, aeries numbers and dates in order.
Other than this Plex works great as what it was originally built for, serving and sharing your home media.
So, everyone set their watches… Now… T-minus 36 hours and counting (Depending which part of the world you’re in )
We’ll either have a fully working EPG by then or the fallout will begin and we’ll all need tin hats and hasmat suits to protect against the onslaught of complaints from the none beta movement (reminds me of the Pro Brexit vs the remained!!
In Spain, the EPG guide is still unusable in most of the channels. Most of them there are empty only with “To be announced” and it’s impossible to record anything… I have already warned of this during the last two weeks, but everything still fails …
I have tried all possible EPG’s now and best I can get is BBC One, Channel 5 & CBBC
Can anyone else BBC 2, ITV, ITV2, ITV3, ITV4, Channel 4? I seem to be able to get everything else except those channels? I have tried Sky, Freeview, BT Vision, everything I can find! it just says the channel name and then “Programming” in the EPG Data?
The fixes for the following UK channels are now in place within the Freeview OTA Broadcast lineups
13 E4
39 CBS Justice
83 Now 80s
84 Now 90s
235 Al Jazeera (English)
Other fixes were in place before this morning
This leaves an issue with 24 hour blocks of program schedule that appear in the grid - these are being purged now and expect them to disappear later today. They manifest themselves as a generic 24 hour entry of XXXX Programming
I still see the blanks
13,39 & 235 are showing up for me and have been mapped, 13 E4 has no data though
I am still not convinced the data is correct, just looking at it, tonights Eastenders is S35 E20, as a new season starts at the beginning of the year and 4 or so episodes are aired every week, I dont beleive E20 is correct
Still no region data, I am still getting BBC London data in the Tyne Tees area
Will check again later to see if things look better
I installed the beta yesterday afternoon after trying to find out why I wasn’t getting ITV2+1 and Sony’s TMC
After installing the beta, I deleted the DVR and readded it - I had to choose BT Vision / London rather than Freeview to get those channles
The EPG appears in Plex web on my plex server, and also on the fire stick - but I’ve just checked plex on my Sony Bravia tv and when I click on the Guide, it says “no items to display”
It is possible some of the issues are to do with the 24 hour generic blocks of airings in the guide. Once this is fixed later today and a full refresh is done , you can let me know what remains as issues for the Spanish lineup
Hey, latest update broke EPG big time, it can’t reach the EPG at all, every channel blank, reboot changes nothing. Looks like we have another broken live TV & DVR moment to add the endless list.
Plex get it together please!
Update, looks like the entire DVR setup has failed, I have Verizon FIOS with a HD HomeRun 3 in Washington DC, now the DVR reports it is a : “MDU Comm Van Metre Woodland Herndon Standard Cable” which I have no idea what or where is.
*2nd update: Deleted the DVR and reinitialized it (all recording was remembered without any issue even the library to which it were to record things to) it is currently back to DC FIOS and restoring the EPG schedule, potentially a workaround fix but not a pretty one.
My guide has not done a scheduled update since the new 1.16 release. I have to keep updating it manually every few days. I keep installing all the updates that are coming out but still the scheduler is not kicking off an update. Anyone else having this issue?
