New/Old Player crashes (Shield Tube) - 4K HDR (not DV)

plex obviously does work, since i can play some uhd hdr videos, but the crashes need to be investigated.

we need info plex staff, don’t leave us hanging

I can not address the problem. I am simply sharing my experience with the Tube. I won’t be able to test and reproduce it anymore since I returned it the same day of launch.

@Achilles
But you could adress @sixones

He wanted logs from us wich we gave and now nothing. no reply in days

You just did. There is no point in being the middle man when I can no longer reproduce.

@Achilles
ok, thx

looks like waiting…

Good thing to hear I’m not the only one. The Plex beta has been unusable for me on my 2019 tube Shield. Check the end of the log; a crash is the last thing that happened, trying to play mkv UHD rip of John Wick 3. The Shield becomes completely unresponsive to button presses after. It would be good to know if these is unique to the 2019 tube Shield, given that I have less than two weeks to return it.

plex_log.txt (1.1 MB)

For now till there is a fix i use the Plex for Kodi addon in latest Version 0.17a3. Works flawless. Everything plays smooth without problems.

But i really hope that its going to be fixed.
So until theres a replay we will have to wait

bleeding edge testing releases? what is that?

Plex for Kodi addon. Works great so far

nah c’mon, Kodi can’t do dolby vision.

is this forum the only way to contact support?

Ok you need DV? My TV cant DV, only HDR.

we will have to wait until @sixones responds.

DV is the only reason why I upgraded from my Shield 2017 :slight_smile:

Im shocked there been no response to these issues from the plex staff. They as us to test and send log files and then we hear nothing. This plex version is not usable for any 4k HDR content as it crashes, stutters, goes all pix-elated and can only hear audio and freezes my shield tube. I cant watch any 4k HDR content atm. All i wanna know is if it deffo something to do with the plex app? or if it to do with the shield tube being less memory and only being 32bit?

Has anyone tried uninstalling the beta version to see if the stable version works?

Im debating if i need to return the tube version as my old Nvidia shield worked perfectly

same reason! starting to regret it though as it cant read dual layer so kinda pointless unless you use it for netflix DV

Has to be the App. Im only on HDR because my TV does no DV. But HDR content is played perfect on Plex for Kodi addon. Even did a test with the Emby App and works with HDR without a problem.

So must be the plex app. Not sure if it the beta app causing these issues or if the stable version is doing the same.

Will have to try uninstall the beta update

Think im gonna return my Shield tube too if it only 32bit and get pro version

the processor is the same 64 bit processor as in the Pro, they just put some limitation on the types of programs you can execute because of the bigger memory footprint of 64bit apps.

Yes you are correct there but no good if there is a limitation to only install 32bit apps. Bad move by nvidia

I have been reading that a lot of people are having issues with the tube version crashing and stuttering and with the pro its been solid. So im deffo making the switch to the pro! :smiley:

I’ve opened a new thread the smart tv and players section, perhaps it will get more visibility and someone else will comment on it there:

btw you can create your own single layer DV mp4 videos from blurays, so you can play them on Plex if you have Shield Pro: https://forum.mrmc.tv/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=4171&start=310
