New Plex Guide Very Poor in UK

It’s just got a little weirder…

Thur-17th and Fri-18th (12 and 13 days ahead) have just popped up today, but Sat-12th to Wed-16th (5 consecutive days worth) are still missing.

I’m on Freesat South and Have I Got News for You on BBC One on FRI 11 OCT 21:00 shows as S56E11 in Plex but it should be S58E01:

And it’s extended version Have I Got a Bit More News for You is on BBC One on MON 14 OCT 23:05 and shows on Plex as S54E13 when it should be S58E01:

And because Plex refers to previous seasons for both, Plex doesn’t label them as NEW which means scheduled recordings for new programmes only would miss these.

The Gadget Show on CH5 is currently showing as a date rather than S30 E2 for Friday 11th at 20:00.

The first in the new series recorded as S29 E14 with completely the wrong meta data!

This is what it thought it was which last aired in July:-

Luckily I had it set to ‘New and Repeat Airings’.

Here is the entry for next Friday in Plex:-

Freeview Listing:-

A manual refresh filled in the missing days.

Also noticed some movies are showing top as TV shows. Eg: “The Expendables” on Dave.

I’ve just tried to schedule something to record on Sunday and it turns out I have no EPG data beyond Friday. A refresh hasn’t change anything.

My cheap and cheerful Freeview box gives me 8 days of data from the guide delivered over-the-air.

[edit] Just reloaded the guide at 10pm and now I’ve got guide data up to Monday. I think you need Plex to reload the guide more frequently than once a day.

It would.

A gap of a number of days in indicative of using the automatic incremental refresh which does not cope with the way the guide is updated by our provider. Hence from 1.18.0 we do full daily refresh - and the beta hot fix has been released - so hopefully if it is enabled in scheduled tasks it will happen every night

Yes and in Plex Media Server 1.18.0.1892 it is automatically fully updated during scheduled tasks - you need the hot fix which came out today - see Plex Media Server - #290 by ahiyahiya

• (Butler) Fix periodic metadata refresh to work with Plex Music libraries; corrected broken EPG refresh (#10676).

The earlier beta had the scheduled task but due to a bug - it was not effective till today’s release
:

  • (EPG) Change to daily full guide refresh instead of incremental refreshes multiple times a day. (#9403)

@mw4925 @Bazrat

The Have I got news for you and Have I got more News for you and The Gadget Show are being corrected and the corrections should feed through in next 24-48 hours

could you tell me the path and file/folder names as showing in media info for one of the recordings. Our metadata search for the “The Apprentice” must be picking up the Ireland show for some reason. I need to replicate and look at the logs.

I’ve watched and deleted the first episode - will keep an eye out for the 2nd one and let you know.

I have kept the first episode as I hoped it would keep the meta data for the next episode. I will try and remember to grab the information tonight.

Is there any way of harnessing the EPG from the HDHomeRun which seems to be better and more complete than the current offering from Plex?

Yes, but you only get 24 hours worth of data.

Another option is to use NextPVR (free) as your DVR with a paid subscription to SchedulesDirect $6/2 months for $25/yr and has a 7 day trial.

Hi, I haven’t read through all of this thread so apologies if this has already been mentioned. I’m using the Freesat West Midlands Satellite data as my source and the BBC2HD is incorrectly showing as the Northern Ireland channel and therefore program mismatches are occurring.

Also the guide seem to be missing a number of channels that are found with the Plex device scan and are listed on the Freesat website, namely -
ch 175 - Smithsonian
ch 302 - Sony Movies
ch 307 - Retro Movies

Could let me know if this will be addressed.

Thanks

Thanks. I think I need an idiot’s guide! I wouldn’t know where to start with those scripts on GitHub. Why do you only get 24 hours of data? The EPG on the HDHR appears to have at least 7 days.

the HDHomerun only gets its info from the OTA broadcast which is 24 hours (I think).

Where are you based?

I thought the Freeview EPG gave 7 days, but is that in a proprietary format that HDHomeRun can’t access?

UK. SL7 postcode (Freeview London OTA Broadcast)

The Freeview OTA EPG data should have 7 to 8 days

Current data is Today, Wed, Thurs, Fri, Sat, Sun, Mon, Tue
