New Plex Guide Very Poor in UK

This is the default text for everyone

Main national and international news, including UTV Live News at 12.50 and ITV weather.

For ITV Lunchtime News showing 11 June - is a quirk of how we handle airings without the original airdate being provided. This area is being looked into and hopefully we will have a better algorithm, At the moment there is higher priority work being worked on but will revisit this in the near future

Emmerdale and Coronation Street were correct and a check on the ITV2 channel schedule and tvdb would confirm that these were 17th January airings

At this moment I am unable to determine why Neighbours episode showed as 17th January. It should have been 20th January. Let me know if you spot an error for another episode

Thanks for the updates, I agree some of these things are lower priority

Neighbours is looking good for next week, all dates look correct
Home and Away however has wrong dates for the week, it needs to use original aired date, not the actual UK aired date
Mon & Tue next week should be 24/10/2019, Wed is 28/10/2019
Using the UK aired date puts the episode about 5 weeks into the future (this is an Australian show and does not air in the UK at the same time as OZ)

The original air dates also need adding to Coronation Street & Emmerdale on ITV3
Eastenders on Drama, this also includes a description
These 3 shows seem to have totally lost the dates at the moment
These shows have been running for years, with no S/E, Aired Date or info on the episode it’s impossible to know what its about

OK I now know why and how Neighbours ended up showing 17 January date

There was an entry for Ireland which had the 17th Jan. Whilst our data is regional, we are currently not picking original dates per country - but the earliest date for the region. There is an open issue for us to improve on this

Surely this should be using original aired date in original country otherwise all matches with tvdb will be failing as the aired date is wrong

If a show premieres in the UK tonight, but it premiered in the US last month, the date should be the date from the US airing, not the UK one

The US and Europe are separate regions. Data is regional at that level. US data does not affect Europe

Yes - and I do have an open issue for this to get addressed

That doesnt make sense

If I have a show that doesnt have S/E, what other info do i need to get metadata from tvdb, it’s the original aired date, the aired date in my country is irrelevant

How does it match the episode to tvdb (if S/E missing) if it’s using local aired dates?

I will raise it to our provider - but this is trivial stuff - has no real impact.

May be then our action was right - in picking the oldest original air date. I think it was in this case an error for the Irish date and it should not have been the 17th because I believe Ireland dates are a day behind UK. We will look into it as part of the open issue we have.

Glad to hear reason for the issue identified but agree with @chenks that it needs to be per country.

If Ireland is a day behind the UK on Neighbours, then i would expect Mondays episode to have a date of 17/01

Add a file to the library as ‘Neighbours - 2020-01-17’ and match this to tvdb, you will get details of Friday 17th, which is correct

This is why original aired date (oldest) is needed, not premiered by region/country

This appears to have been a specific case where our provider had an error for the Ireland date and subsequently corrected but our ingestion process did not handle this.

The episode date for Ireland should have been 21 January and not 17th. On the 10th January or before we picked the earliest date - the 17th as the originally aired date. Our provider corrected the Ireland date on the 12 January -setting it to 21 January (a day behind UK) but we have a problem in our ingestion process where this was not handled and we remained to use the initially provided date of the 17th.

This will be addressed at our end

The information may be the same globally. It is just there are different datasets for US, Europe, Latin America - at that high regional level

I think we might be meaning the same thing
The air date for Neighbours should always be the Australian date as thats the country it originally aired in, it doesnt need to be region specific (UK & Aus air on the same day, so it matches)

Take Emmerdale tonight, premiered in the UK it’s home country
If this episode airs in another country in 3 months time, would you expect the original aired date to be today or 3 months time in the other country
Which would give a better match with the on line services

This is how a standard TV library works, details for an episode have the original aired date in the original country

I have referred this already

For some shows on some channels, the EPG data only provides data at the series/show level - with no episodic information. This is the case for these three.

We are looking into how to handle such cases.

Up to recently we were setting the airing date as the episode date for such airings but that was leading to issues with recordings of the real episodes for that day. A change was made to stop setting the airing date but that change is being regressed because there were some side effects on other scenarios.

This area will be looked into again together with changes to Plex Media Server for special handling of these airings if they are recorded

Thanks

How can the provider not have Episode data, this is the most basic info needed

Airing Date as the episode date is the correct way to do it, imo, If I set a series record on Eastenders
Setting it to New Episodes only, should only record from BBC One, as these are the only place for new episodes
Setting it to record New/Repeat should include these episodes on Drama, and label them correctly with the original aired date

Fair point & I could live with it recording old episodes just as long it didn’t group them all as the same episode by recording date instead of original air date

Thanks
Wasnt aware the New was also used as new to that channel, I thought it was used for never before episodes

With the above though, If you only want the Brand new episodes, then set the Limit Recording to BBC One only
