New Plex Guide Very Poor in UK

Exactly

If it used the original airing date, then the Eastenders episodes on Drama would show as Season 8 when recorded (currently episodes from 1992), Episodes recorded from BBC One would be Season 36

If this is the case then the NEW flag is pointless!!!

NEW should mean new airing for the country not channel. @sa2000 maybe you could confirm what the NEW flag definition is?

Well I don’t want lots of episodes being recorded e.g Top Gear on Dave, which I have seen before if I have it set to record New Airings only!!

With all the issues I always set ‘New and Repeat’ airings and use the limit to channel to stop recording most of the repeats.

One day we may be able to rely on the guide data being correct
but I’m not holding my breath.

it’s been 7 months and the problem has never been officially acknowledged externally.

There is therefore no reason to believe the problem is being properly addressed at its root (I am not referring to these retrospective updates that SA2000 works on).

Bottom line appears to be:

  • Plex EPG is broken.
  • Plex does not appear to care about its EPG.

This is an odd one, Channel 4 do the same (not sure of any other examples)

Channel 4 have Hollyoaks as new on Ch.4
But similar to your Scotland example, that episode aired on E4 the previous day as a first look episode

Would have to test to see the outcome as on Monday, the Ch.4 airing is 27th, but the E4 one is the 28th (following days)
Plex labels them both as 27th, so probably gets confused

What do the dates on the episodes for BBC1 Scotland and BBC Scotland show?

Thanks, I agree on Tuesday

For me, both these episodes should have the date of 28th and the Tuesday one should have the New flag on it

If set to record New only, then you would get the Tuesday episode only
If set to New/Repeat then it would record the Monday early episode, not really a repeat but an early look at the new episode)

If a series aired first on pay TV (e.g. Sky) and now comes to free TV, new or not?
Most people don’t have pay TV and would therefore miss the airing.

If it can be done then maybe rather than NEW to country, do NEW to line-up e.g Freeview Meridian OTA etc.

My lineup (cable) has pay TV as well as all the others. So for this case it wouldn’t help. It is difficult and you can’t probably please everyone.

Sorry for the late feedback on this - but I am not able to get our provider to give EPG data for music channels like this.

Since your reply I’ve been trying to make the switch from PMP to Plex for Windows. For example:

  • I have uninstalled PMP from my Alienware laptop.
  • I have uninstalled Plex (Store App) from both my laptop and desktop (I’m not sure you can call it a desktop as it’s a Dell Precision R7910 rack mounted workstation).

I still have PMP on my R7910 but I try and use it as back up rather than the primary client.

However Plex for Windows seems to be a little inferior and not as polished as PMP in my opinion.:

  • PMP still seems to be under active development with more frequent releases then Plex for Windows / Mac.
  • The update process in Plex for Windows is absolutely horrible - Launch Plex, wait some time, close Plex and re-open - then you might get a notification that there is an update. PMP on the other hand notifies you it has an update and asks if you want to download it. Really simple!!!
  • I’m facing some rather strange oddities in Plex for Windows compared to PMP such as the following in my DVD schedule:

PMP (All good)

Plex Web (Seem to be consistent with PMP)

Plex for Windows (Not only is the recording of “A walk among the Tombstones” missing for Today, but a) there appears to be a mismatch for tomorrow, and b) I seem to be travelling at 88 mph and have time-jumped to Wednesday in order to record Waterworld:

I guess. like most people. I’m not using Plex Web if I have on-premise infrastructure in place.

My HDHomerun on the other hand tells me it isn’t Wednesday:

Note: I’ve not checked Plex for Android, Plex for Xbox or Plex for Samsung TVs for this particular issue but can if you need me to.

It’s strange that they have decided to take this approach as:

  • They are able to provide data for 4 music.
  • They are able to provide data for the radio stations.
  • Data is publicly available for these channels, For example: here and here. I’m not sure of the legal implications here but surely one could screen scrape the data, from the many publicly available sources using something like curl, and digest it into your feed before it is disseminated to the end user?

@elan - What is the contractual agreement you have with Tivo here? If it isn’t in the contract then I think you need to cough up the readies for it, and if it is the contract then Tivo should be providing it - plain and simple.

As a consumer, I’m not interested in the contractual agreements you have with Tivo. To put it bluntly I expect EPG data for all channels, regardless of whether it is TV based, Movie, Music or Radio (Especially when a) I had this facility prior to the end of June 2019 and b) it’s a service I have paid for - At no point was it mentioned when I purchased my Plex pass that only some types of EPG data would be available whilst others would not).

Apologies if this seems a) a little blunt and b) too black and white - but we are nearly 7 months on from the provider switch and despite the continued hard work and efforts from @sa2000 (which are very much appreciated) there are still severe issues with the guide data.

and that is without mentioning missing actor data and being able to record movies that have a 5 minute infotainment interval.

I agree there and our provider does manually attempt to correct these where the channel feeds they get have the “New” indicator set because the broadcaster is setting it because it is New for them. Some of these are obviously being missed and slip through

That only works as well as the EPG data, and much of it is rubbish from the original suppliers. Some entries include series/episode details (which can be used to do in intelligent series link across multiple channels), but sometimes that data is wrong or just absent.
For Freeview, I know of no PVR that gets it right 100% of the time. Sky do a much better job - but they control the end to end, both the guide and the recording software on the boxes - and even they have problems.
I am strongly of the view that Plex should just use the Freeview OTA as it solves so many problems of having a third party supplier and guides that update over the net rather than in real time when the broadcaster changes it, but I a not naive enough to expect it would stop all issues.

@sa2000 did the EPG provider change anything regarding Traffic Cops? The recording was previously scheduled for today, when I last looked sometime yesterday or the day before. Looked this morning and it had gone from the schedule. This was the episode I reported an error on previously.

Broken listing
Radio 4xtra - “Undone” - the episode has recorded, but no data has been added (screenshot attached). Plus the next episode isn’t being scheduled for recording - despite it being in the schedule (screenshot also attached) - today at 6pm.

Oh, and the ‘to be announced’ is announced

Guide: STV OTA Freeview
Problem: 8 out of 10 Cats Does Countdown on Thurs 30 Jan at 2100 on 004 / 104 is showing as S19E03, which was last week’s episode. Should be S19E04.

I am aware of that; hence, "Thurs 30 Jan at 2100 on 004 / 104 ". STV Freeview OTA is the guide I use. It might not be the same for all UK users.

I’m not sure why you have problem with what I originally wrote, which was:

STV OTA Freeview
8 out of 10 Cats Does Countdown on Thurs 30 Jan at 2100 on 004 / 104 is showing as S19E03, which was last week’s episode. Should be S19E04.

but I have edited the original post to now say:

Guide: STV OTA Freeview
Problem: 8 out of 10 Cats Does Countdown on Thurs 30 Jan at 2100 on 004 / 104 is showing as S19E03, which was last week’s episode. Should be S19E04.

I don’t think anyone else would have thought that meant somehow that 004 / 104 was STV, but I hope this now meets with your approval.
