New Plex Guide Very Poor in UK

The last time this happened I missed it and as I sat down to watch, what I thought was a historical drama about our Prime Minister during WWII, I ended up with the opening credits to, quite literately, an “Alien invasion horror”.

Anyway it seems that Plex has it wrong again… and hopefully I have noticed it in time to see it corrected:

Plex shows “Darkest Hour (2017)” on The Horror Channel (Channel 070) at 01:00 on Friday 3rd July where it should be “The Darkest Hour (2011)”:

…as per The Horror Channel’s own TV Guide:

…and per the Freeview guide:

The Darkest Hour - Freeview

To me it looks like someone, or something such as a parser of some kind, has missed the crucial “The” at the beginning of the title.

The url that is used for EPG setup / refresh is this https://epg.provider.plex.tv with various end points

An example here Can't add setup Plex DVR and download EPG - I see two errors: Unable to load channel mappings and Unable to fetch guide settings - #4 by sa2000 showed that out of 32 requests to the service, only 6 completed successfully with the rest timing out

An EPG refresh may involve a few thousand requests to the service - over a 20 minute or so period.

Failures that have been seen are early on so was not what could be rate limiting

Only advice is to report this to your provider. The server logs would show what the http requests were that failed

Thank you

I have escalated this to our provider’s management and fed back the info that the issue remains

I have referred this to our provider

I have referred the error to our provider. The original air date is also wrong for this airing

Thank you.

Happens every time this film is shown.

A bit like my report of Charlie’s Angles: Full Throttle - they shouldn’t constantly be wrong!

Whilst I expect The Horror Channel’s own TV guide to get it right, Freeview and third party guide publishers such as ontvtonight have the right film so why can’t Plex?

Now that sa2000 has reported it hopefully “the provider” is on top of it

@sa2000 Still no updated feed, any more news?

It must be now as this thread is officially a year old - looking at the date and time of the original post: 30 June 2019 12:01.

As such I just wanted to say: Happy Birthday!

I have escalated it to our provider management

Any update?

I understand it has been resolved. We need to wait for the updated ingestion files

@sa2000 Just manually refreshed… still no listing after 6:00 BST tomorrow morning even though I reported this last Sunday. Any further assistance would be appreciated.

Can anyone tell me if it is possible to schedule a manual recording?

Plex doesn’t have a manual recording feature.

Due to all the issues over the past year, I installed NextPVR without a TV guide and use that when I want to make a manual recording. You can easily set it to record Channel 81 from 0959-1203 on Saturday, or whatever takes your fancy. It does mean either running comskip yourself (or using AVIdemux) and then renaming and importing into Plex after the fact, but it’ll do in a pinch.

Thanks for the suggestion @hugothehippo, as it happens the guide has just populated with the TPTV listings. Thanks @sa2000 for sorting this. I will proactively take a look at NextPVR

EPG data appears to have been extended now. Do a refresh now

Thank you @sa2000. The data is now available and has been extended out for nearly 2 weeks. Hopefully 2 weeks is the new standard

Your help is really appreciated @sa2000! :+1:

I agree. Many thanks for your ongoing efforts, @sa2000.

And I haven’t had to use NextPVR often, maybe four or five times in the last year. Most things do get resolved if you post them here In enough time.
