No remote access on 1.18

Optimize can be done with the the Plex Gui.

Did you already do this:

Yes, thats how I got you the logs.

So, I should downgrade and try to optimize? My only question is, is that the same as a database repair?

Can anyone confirm this works, downgrading to 1.17? I can still access my server remotely and play content, but I’m getting “settings unavailable” Across all attempts to access.

Optimize is not the same as a database repair, it make is contiguous for faster reads.

If you go the repair route, be sure to stop Plex before you touch the database file.

Initially Direct Play via PKC worked, but after a short while the CPU went up to 99% and then not even that worked. Downgrading to 1.17 fixes all, just did that and will try to optimize and upgrade again. If that doesn’t work, I will try to repair. However, not familiar in SSH.

How do I kill the process?

From the App Center, will it let you stop Plex.

So here is my status now.

I managed to downgrade, then optimize the database and upgrade again.
Initially it seemed very promising. PKC could connect to my server and I had no high CPU load.

However, the web interace couldn’t play any files. Instead I got the following error message:
“Conversion failed. A required codec could not be found or failed to install.”

I also noticed that in the server settings window, it still showed that I was on 1.17, even though QNAP apps clearly showed 1.18.

So I signed out and hoped that a sign in would clear somethings up.

But since then the server has disappeared and I can’t seem to be able to claim it again. I have followed multiple steps found on the forums regarding editing preferences.xml, but nothing helps.

What do I do now? :frowning:

So further update.

I desperation I tried to roll back to 1.17 again and as always that fixed all the problems. I could re-claim the server, and everything started working as intended.
So I optimized the database, then rebooted then upgraded to 1.18 and rebooted the NAS.

And again the server is unreachable (from the local network).
Ive spent all day with this now, and countless hours before too. I am starting to feel a bit desperate since Plex has announced that versions prior to 1.18 will no longer work when it comes to artwork.

Clearly there is something wrong / not compatible with these versions of Plex and the QNAP NAS that I am on.

I appreciate the help from people on the forums, but there seems to be little to no official support from Plex other than that. Something I did not expect when I purchased my lifetime pass.

Check your DNS settings on the QNAP, as well as default gateway

Attaching settings here, what do I need to do?

You have your QNAP as the default gateway towards the internet, AFAICT

It should be your router, and most likely on 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.1.254

I can’t really specify anything other than failover gateway.
I changed it to “default” but that didnt help. See pictures for options.

Still waiting for some help.

Recently instead of 99% CPU, its taking 99% RAM instead.
I had the same issues a few months back, before I decided to downgrade to 1.17.

Been without Plex for 3 days now, so hope someone can take a look at this, or I will need to downgrade again.

These images are shortly after reboot.

Fresh set of logs please, so we maybe can see what’s going on

Here you go, thank you for helping.

Any update?

According to the new logs, I see 2 things:

  1. Your database in in a not good state, so suggest you shutdown PMS, and do a manual rebuild of the database
    Ref: Jan 21, 2020 12:32:56.167 [0x7fa065fbc700] DEBUG - It took 39140.000000 ms to retrieve 139324 items.
  2. You are storing your medias in the QNAP share Multimedia
    Ref: 2020-01-21 04:13:54,993 (7fd1c208f700) : DEBUG (sandbox:19) - >>> Creating combined XML file from {'en': [{'codec': 'srt', 'name': "Marvel's Daredevil - 3x11 - Reunion.eng.srt", 'file': "/share/CACHEDEV1_DATA/Multimedia/TV/Marvel's Daredevil/Season 3/Marvel's Daredevil - 3x11 - Reunion.eng.srt", 'format': 'srt'}], 'sv': [{'codec': 'srt', 'name': "Marvel's Daredevil - 3x11 - Reunion.swe.srt", 'file': "/share/CACHEDEV1_DATA/Multimedia/TV/Marvel's Daredevil/Season 3/Marvel's Daredevil - 3x11 - Reunion.swe.srt", 'format': 'srt'}]}
You need to create a share of your own, and move away from the multimedia share
    See: QNAP FAQ Q14

And adding to self here
Are you still using trakt?
And if not, I suggest you remove the bundle, since that’s using resources as well, and has a lot of pending notifications to push

Alright, so I actually found this TIP earlier, and already at the “download SQLITE” part I got stuck, I am by no means a Linux expert, or even a layman user. The reason why I am using a QNAP NAS is because it is very GUI friendly, if you know what I mean. That being said, I do have a pretty good ol’ DOS understanding (being that I’m a bit old, and worked with IT many years). But I don’t even know which version precisely I should download, and how to install it on a QNAP NAS. - Now I guess, your answer could be that don’t support that part, but I kind of hope you still could point me in the right direction.

In addition to that, I already get stuck on “cd $PLEX_HOME/Library/Application\ Support/Plex\ Media\ Server/Plug-in\ Support/Databases/” < I get the answer that the folder does not exist.

  1. Ok, if it helps then I can do that. But is there a “smart” way to move the database, or will I need to rebuild everything from scratch?

Other than that, thank you for helping me, haha as a media-lover, it’s been hell being without Plex for the last week :stuck_out_tongue:
