Plex Constantly Loses Remote Access

Let me have a look at server logs. See my response above Plex Constantly Loses Remote Access - #144 by sa2000

Any way to see what is going on with my server? For the past YEAR – server is constantly: "
Not available outside your network"

I click disable, and then enable, it flashes green, sometimes just for 0.1 seconds, before turning back red. Other times, it stays green for WEEKS before toggling back to red.

Automatic port mapping using upnp is failing. I see you switched to a manually specified port - that would need a port forward set up in the router.

what port forward have you set up in the router?

At 01:29 on 4th Nov you enabled remote access and set manually selected public port of 14322
Did you create a port forward in the router to port forward public port 14322 to local port 32400 to 192.168.7.124 for tcp ?

You need to also ensure that 192.168.7.124 is DCHP reserved in the router so that the IP stays the same

There is also evidence of the router giving errors when requests are sent to it to find out the public ip address. Can you check that you have NAT enabled / also have uPnP enabled

DM’d you with logs and screenshot. I also disabled Tautulli prior to capturing logs (I hope). Thanks in advance.

I appear to have solved my own issue. In my case it turns out that a AT&T router firmware push bricked port forwarding for my particular model. After upgrading to a new firmware version, my remote access appears to be restored.

That does happen all the time. I had Virgin Media recently tell me they updated my settings to improve my Wifi in the house - i discovered afterwards that all my port forwards were gone !

HI all, this annoying issue just started with me. No changes on my setup for ages, yes I still run the old plex pht interface - HATE the new.

Settings>Server>Network ‘Secure connection’ change default Preferred to Disabled. Changed and instantly stable.

I blame the Main plex server setup ?USA? not the local as I have changed nothing for ages

Hope it works for all you frustrated ppl

If Secure Connections is making a difference, it could be DNS Rebinding Protection on your router - see section on DNS Rebinding here https://support.plex.tv/articles/204604227-why-can-t-the-plex-app-find-or-connect-to-my-plex-media-server/

(I notice your server is on a very old version of Plex Media Server - 1.10.0.4523-648bc61d4)
We are now on version 1.13.9 public release and 1.14.0 beta

And support for Plex Home Theater ceased a long time ago

Thanks but I see no reason to update. This server issue arose with no changes on my end and many others. As for PHT - nope not changing I loathe the new interface, and with the black skin I use it looks great, why change - make an argument. This issue can only have arisen because of a change that has nothing to do with my setup - or are you saying all these users just happened to experience the same issue at the same time - i think not.

I am not asking for any PHT support nor am i expecting it. It works fine for me and many others.

Check ,y post below i would be interested if this fixes your problem

Thank you for the tip! I actually figured out that my ISP pushed a firmware update to my router that bricked all IP and port forwarding. Switching to a newer version of that router firmware solved my remote access issues with Plex.

Turning off GDM instantly allowed me to remote connect. Thanks for posting this. I have been having trouble with Remote access for the past month and a half.

I updated to 1.14.0.5465 on the beta channel and this fixed my issue. I was having the same issues as above and tried everything suggested, but the beta update worked.

Plex Media Server 1.14.0.5468 has just been released as Beta. It has two fixes for bugs that impacted Remote Access

See Release Notice

  • Automatic port mapping could fail with some older routers (#9335)
  • Fix for Server Unreachable and Remote Access issues (#9228)

Anyone running an early beta or a development build with early release of these fixes should now update to the official beta, Thank you for helping confirm the fixes

I have been having this issue for a while, it drops allow I have port forwarded and allowed through firewall and made sure that the selected port is open, its frustrating to say the least.
I just bought a new computer so when I set it up, I just assumed that it was something I missed, but I have checked all my settings and they are correct.
Any fix for this yet?

Hi there
so i am having the same issue again after it working fine for some time now.
i have done the instructions you suggested

Plex Media (2.0 MB)

10 posts were split to a new topic: Secure Connections not working - running on 1.14.0.5468

Thanks for the logs.
I can see you have attempted to use different manually selected ports - In all cases plex,tv back end systems failed to get through to the server. This is normally due to either

  • not having the right port forward in the router
  • firewall / security software blocking

The logs these attempts to get it to work. The tests are very close to each other in time which concerns me as you having the time to change the port forward in the router for each test in time. And some routers need to be restarted after setting up a port forward.

Test 1 was at 11:27:42 using manually specified port 32401
Test 2 was at 11:28:48 using manually specified port 18035
Test 3 was at 11:40:22 using manually specified port 32400
Test 4 was at 11:42:57 using manually specified port 32400

For each of these tests I would have needed to see screenshot of the port forward in the router at that time before instigating the test.

For Test 1 I would have needed tp see screenshot at that time showing
Public/WAN tcp port 32401 port forwarded to 32400 to 192.168.1.9

For Test 2 I would have needed tp see screenshot at that time showing
Public/WAN tcp port 18035 port forwarded to 32400 to 192.168.1.9

For Tests 3 and 4 I would have needed to see screenshots at those times showing
Public/WAN tcp port 32400 port forwarded to 32400 to 192.168.1.9

The other things to check
In windows the network interface is correctly showing as Private Network and not Undefined or Public

and see what security / firewall software you have running
Sometimes this rule helps

Inbound Port Rule
Local port = 32400
Protocol = tcp
Remote Port = Any
Remote IP = Any
Programs = Any
Action = Allow

I cannot see any server on your account that is running version 1.14.0.5468 which fixes some remote access issues

There is no this unless you provide diagnostics and they checked out and investigated and then we can find out what the this is in your case. There may be different reasons for remote access to drop out. As an example I just found again that my port forwards have gone and not in my router any more - ISPs do make silent updates to routers and some (in my case all ISP updates) reset some of the user configured settings.

Every day this connection drops, to be quite frank i’m removing my subscription, I don’t mind the price, that is as always very good and when pms works as it should great value, but this is getting ridiculous, everyday no remote access, I have read every post and every reply and attempted to follow those to remedy this issue but as always it works for 24hrs or less and drops, I have checked for double NAT and port forwarded added exceptions and made sure the computer doesn’t sleep or hibernate, what more can I do?
Everything I listed was in one or more posted replies as fixes, I even rolled back the server and still it persists, im tired of it all, I want a service that works, not just some of the time.
