Plex DVR Guide/EPG not Updating

What I would like to try is deleting Plex Media Server HTTP EPG cache and see if it makes a change

So shut down Plex Media Server, delete or rename this cache directory and then launch Plex Media Server and scan channels and refresh the guide and get me logs

/var/lib/plexmediaserver/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Cache/Http/tv.plex.providers.epg.onconnect

Looks like this is an actual problem with Gracenote. You can see some of my newer posts above, but it looks like the lineup for my cable company has changed. Instead of showing all available channels, it’s only showing a handful of basic cable channels. This is why it was only downloading the few thousand airings; it was for 11 or so channels.

Not sure how to get this corrected by Gracenote.

@Noah0504 Good luck with trying to get it sorted yourself, on the website they give you, you have to enter each channel separately, and then there’s no guarantees it’ll be fixed as it’s Onconnect by Plex and Gracenote.

I’m hoping that the new provider who they’ve not named will do better? But I have my doubts, as it’s looking bleak…

Any idea what I can do to get my line up fixed?

And now I can’t even use an XMLTV file. When I try to re-add the tuner and add the XMLTV file I’ve generated, it just tells me it cannot load channel mappings. Looks like I’m just out of luck for now.

@Noah0504 Other than go with another Media Server or keep complaining till someone at Plex finally listens, I’m unsure to what else we can do.
There’s another thread where myself, @systemshark and others are trying to help Plex finally get this issue sorted, but it’s a long old slog… I’m just hoping it’s with it.

Dave

Well, I did finally get up and running using an XMLTV file. Turns out, Plex doesn’t really care for a file 400MB in size. Ha. I cut the airings down to 3 days worth and was able to get my tuner added back.

Going to try remaking the file with a longer duration and see if it will update.

I did have a line of investigation I was following. My last request was here Plex DVR Guide/EPG not Updating - #61 by sa2000 and depending on what I would have seen in the logs then would move to the next step which if that was not successful in resolving the problem, would have been to go through delete and create the DVR and scan channels and get me the logs from that to allow to pick the relevant information for me to try and get the lineups

Does this have anything to do with this:

Sorry, my posts have been a little sporadic, so I probably made the issue even more confusing, but I determined the issue is not directly with PMS. It was completing the guide refresh, however, I was able to figure out that the lineup information from Gracenote appears to have changed.

I deleted my tuner and tried re-adding it. I chose the same channel lineup I was using before (my local cable company), except instead of being able to map my previous 200 channels, it was only showing 20 odd channels available. To be clear, the tuner was correctly showing my subscribed channels, it was the guide that lacked them. I was only able to select from the 20 or so channels available.

When I was confused why Plex was only downloading around 8000 airing before, it was because it was only downloading for 11 channels that remained mapped from my selected lineup, as almost 200 channels no longer were available in the guide lineup.

Hopefully I was able to explain the well enough.

I’ve since resubscribed to Schedules Direct to be able to generate an XMLTV file to get me going for now.

@WildBill_PDX Seems that way! Gracenote has always been the problem from the start!! Will be nine to see what the next provider will do? Hopefully not as many caching issues, channels missing etc. How long has Grapefruit… Sorry autocorrect, Gracenote been down, died anyone know?

Dave

@Noah0504 That’s the issue all over the place, even on Freeview, channels missing, wrong listings etc. Let’s see what happens next???

Well I have lost the opportunity to establish if we have a caching bug in Plex Media Server that would impact EPG refreshes and channel mapping after an outage at the EPG provider. May be there isn’t but there was a chance to confirm or eliminate it. I was specifically looking for why you had unknown airings or To Be Announced for the next 24 hours

There may be several issues here

Also, I did post what you asked for:

As i have no logs for the sequence that was getting this incomplete lineup during setup and processing it, i have no data to look into and investigate further and refer it to our provider

That was not during setup. I was going to ask for that after going through a test with deletion of PMS EPG HTTP cache first

I can delete and re-add the tuner if necessary.

Can’t find anything from Plex saying there is a problem with Gracenote, other than on the status page. Anyone from Plex have any information???

@sa2000, here are some pictures to help explain the current issue I’m having.

You can see below that the lineup I was using is now missing almost all of the channels it previously had. To avoid trying to manually match channels from another lineup, I’m using an XMLTV file, but that has its own drawbacks and causing some issues with certain programs.

From what I currently understand, the Plex will begin using the new EPG provider on July 1st. Is this still the plan? I suppose that will hopefully solve the issue for good?

For each issue, eg this or the earlier one where guide refresh was completing but not apparently updating the guide for today, would need to investigate with logs and setup details.

In this case, you have screenshots that show in DVR setup, the lineup does not have channels that were there before. So would need details of setup parameters plus logs from start of setup and up to time when you see the issue - and i can then start investigating
