You’re right - almost all of the channel mismatches are due to Freeview channel lineup changes. These were clearly wrong too on my previous config. The problem is that although these are highlighted to people who use the Freeview tuner on their TV, there is no mechanism for them to be highlighted to HDHomeRun users. And even if there were, if you’re not using the HDHomeRun app - instead only using it as a tuner for Plex DVR - you’d never see it anyway.
Bottom line - if you don’t use your TV’s Freeview tuner, you’ll never know they’ve changed.
The onus should be on the service that’s presenting the EPG to the user to warn them of lineup changes and the need to retune. In this case, that’s Plex.
There’s some minor omissions still left - none of these affect me directly, but for completeness, there’s no EPG for:
Thanks for the update. Using my HDHomeRun with an alternative DVR for a while, which is working well, but will probably return to PLEX DVR at some point in the future.
Using Silicon Dust’s HDHomeRun so their DVR on a 2 month free trial. Seems to work fine. Also considered getchannels.com which works with that hardware.
First I knew of it was when I was buying a 1 year subscription through their online shop. Don’t think I saw anything about it anywhere beforehand. So I subscribed but the payment is deferred for 2 months. As for Channels, I don’t know anything about the quality of their EPG either, plus their charge is more expensive (USD80 per year) and there is also a cost for the Apple tv version of their app.
Ah I see. Yes it seems to work fine, it’s recorded everything as planned and haven’t had any issues with EPG data. The way its Recording tasks seem to work (by seeking candidate showings of an episode within a season across showings on all channels, if you get my drift) reminds me in some way of how Wish List worked on the old original TiVo (way back when!)
I did look at that to, then I noticed the pricing… I’m trying to cut the cord not spend more money!! I’m going to give Tvheadend and antennas a try later this week if nothing is fixed to get the OTA guide locally, this way at least I’ll know everything is correct…
I am posting this in all recent threads relating to EPG and channels
A change went live this morning (UK/Europe time) that would address issues with not having the right regional BBC / ITV / Channel 4 channels by allowing the selection of the Freeview-National United Kingdom OTA Broadcast lineup and manually mapping the relevant BBC1, BBC2, ITV, Channel 4 channels from the drop down.
This is a temporary fix to allow for any regional OTA lineups that do not have the right regional channels. The channels will be presented with a channel number followed by -n where n is a sequence number.
Please note that this does not resolve issues with channel 8 for London Live or 102 for BBC 2 HD outside Northern Ireland
@sa2000 How long have we got to wait for the changes to filter through? I’ve refreshed the EPG a number of times now but there’s no ITV Wales in the selection. Should this have been immediate change or is it a slow filter through?
You did not answer my question on whether you have implemented the suggested fix by switching to the National OTA lineup and manually mapping the wales channel
I presume channel 3 does show in your tuner channel list in the left column?
Just updated to the new server running the new EPG, not the best experience. Channels seem to be correct. Did have to delete and re-add the DVR setup though as the wrong EPG data was selected.
There’s LOADS of recordings set to NEW when they’re not new. My recording schedule is filled up with those.
Also some existing series in the recording priority (before the server upgrade) with new episodes on in the coming days haven’t been added to the schedule. They have NEW on them in the guide but not scheduled to record. I’m guessing I’m going to have to re-add each individual series?
Had to reschedule the series. Do see they have different posters, so maybe a mis-match for quite a lot of my scheduled series?
100% a “new” episode here on Wed, Jul 17th - 9PM but isn’t set to record as I have New Airings Only selected. Also got a Poster that I’ve never seen on Plex before for this show!
Another episode that should have the NEW tag and isn’t in my recording schedule. Has a different poster art (in this case none) so having to manually record this episode, so maybe another mis-match to my old recording series setup?
It seems the information from the epg sources are missing this data. I’m not sure why or how gracenote seemed to have it but it did; When I asked my epg provider why this data was missing all they could say is thats what they are getting fron the source
