Plex DVR, Trying to watch Live TV but get error "Unable to tune channel (no parts)"

What was the version of Plex Media Server that worked ok with Apple TV?

For your servers, plex.tv is showing the Shield is on 1.13.9.5439 but the Mac on 1.13.8.5395.

Could you get logs from the Plex for Apple TV app and Plex Media Server - Would also be useful to get server logs of test for same channel for Plex Web which you say works ok

If you could, please do the following

Start each test with a new server launch to get clean logs for each test and to ensure no previous Live TV activity that may affect the outcome

Ensure debug logging is enabled on the server
See https://support.plex.tv/articles/201643703-reporting-issues-with-plex-media-server/

Restart the server

Test Live TV with Plex Web
Note down the time and outcome
Capture the server logs
See https://support.plex.tv/articles/200250417-plex-media-server-log-files/

Restart the server

Enable Logging on the Plex for Apple TV App
See https://support.plex.tv/articles/212639598-apple-tv-logs/

Establish what the IP Address is of the Apple TV as that will be needed for retrieving the log

Note : The ability to access the logs over the network will remain active for 20 minutes. So, enable the log access right after reproducing the issue and then grab the logs right away

Test out Live TV on the Apple TV Plex app
Note down the time and outcome

Capture the Apple TV Plex log
See https://support.plex.tv/articles/212639598-apple-tv-logs/
and select all text and copy to a text file and save

and download the server logs
See https://support.plex.tv/articles/200250417-plex-media-server-log-files/

Please upload all the server logs zips and the Apple TV plex app log and details of times of tests and outcomes

Thank you

ok, will get the logs…Previous versions that worked with no issues:

Surely Plex can replicate this now and work on a fix? There’s enough people with issues, some are uploading logs.

I would have uploaded some myself but needed to revert back to a working version ASAP.

Fresh log. Just tried to tune the baseball game on 11.1 KTTV.Plex Media Server Logs_2018-10-13_13-14-25.zip (3.0 MB)

I should note that this issue is only with Live TV. Scheduled recordings are recording without issue.

Hello. This is the perfect thread to help Plex staff to learn all the problems with Live TV tuning. I could not find how to start a new post within this thread. Anyways, I have most OTA channels that will load and available to my home network and a few that refuse. Over cable wiring, all channels work. My setup, my system, my connectivity? Current setup is Win 10, 8 core AMD CPU, Asus mobo, 8 GB ram. 2 TB storage, latest Plex on server and clients, server and one Roku client hardwired, 2 more wireless g. Mentioned network as latency issues. Tuning to certain channels within Plex problems most important to address. Should I just run cable wiring to latest TV added?

Disregard my last post. It’s not recording either. I lost track of the last show it recorded vs when I installed the update.

Got tired of plex live tv feature. Finally gave in and subscribed to hdhomerun dvr service 35 dollars… Way better, only thing is it only works at home. Added the folder of recordings from hdhomerun service to my plex server so I could remotely watch my dvr… Wish plex live tv would get fixed. I paid for a years service, and right now it’s not looking like Im going to renew another year… I love plex don’t get me wrong, but live tv is what I mostly got the plex pass.

hi @sa2000,
just stumbled across this thread after beating my head against the wall for last 2 weeks. @murrayd222 and @kd6icz are definitely not the only one with the issue, am on HD HomeRun Connect tuner as well and seeing the same liveTV tuning issues. Currently on 1.13.8.5395, 5388 didn’t work either.
Will send you logs later if you still need some additional references.

Attached the server logs. There should be two issues, both LiveTV related -
iOS client spinning, trying to load live TV UNTIL I pressed 10s rewind in the client at which point the stream loaded.
Android client erroring out trying to load live TV, ultimately erroring out (after ~ 5 seconds) with ā€œunable to play…soemthing rather…connection to server lostā€.Plex Media Server Logs_2018-10-15_22-57-02.zip (122.4 KB)

PMS 1.13.8.5388 running on MacOS 10.13.6
HDHomeRun Connect
QNAP NAS

The specific issue with timeout on tuning was in version 1.13.8 and 1.13.9 - do you have a copy of the binary for beta 1.13.7 or previous public release 1.13.5 ?

Good Morning sa2000

Just making sure you got my Wireshark logs . . .

Thanks!

Yup - found it. But the wireshark is supposed to go with logs for a failure

Might need you to get me a wireshark capture to go with the logs for a failure

On its own wireshark capture would not be usable for me because i need to match packets to log entries.

Also the wireshark you captured appears to be of usb ports only - there is no tcp/network capture. When you start wireshark you can select which interfaces to capture traffic for. You need to select the network interface(s)

Loggs from me:

STB : VU+ Solo2 (now testing on this)
Image : VTi 13.0.12
HRTunerProxy version : 4.0
Plex version : 1.13.8.5395
Plex server OS type and version : CentOS 7

How many DVRs are there ? Are the DVRs on 192.168.0.206 and 192.168.0.205 ?

I can see issues with attempts to refresh data and also tuning

This gives a list of supported DVRs

For Community Supported Tuners, see

You could use wireshark to see what happens when Plex tries to communicate with the DVRs on port 6083

Ummm . . . I don’t know what to say but 5439 is now working after repeated failures in the past . .

I did my normal upgrade . . .I think . . .I might have uninstalled and rebooted instead of just installing over . . .

But I just watched 3 simultaneous live tv streams . . . something I never do.

I’m going to let this run today and schedule 6 recordings for this afternoon and if they work I will be confident that it will work tonight . . . I don’t get it all I can think of is that it’s related to the uninstall and not over install . . .

Let me know if you want me to try and capture anything.

I testet with 192.168.0.205 first, but deleted it again.
Now I’m testing only against 192.168.0.206. I will delete Plex total and set it up again from scratch.

I know about the supported tuners, but lots of people has HRTunerProxy on Enigma2 STB up and runnig.

I can’t understand why it doesn’t work on my CentOS server.
