Plex for Xbox One incessantly buffering

Considering how long this problem has been going on I think it’s time that Plex forget the MS video player backend and build their own from the ground up

I haven’t a clue what the solution is, nor how to get there, but refuckulating the UI over and over has done nothing but serve to frustrate myself and family when we fire the console up and stuff has changed yet again.

Can report this is still an issue as of last night. Happened every 22-23 minutes with 1080p H264 DTS movie. Plex server not taxed in the slightest while running on a R5 3600 with 16GB of RAM. This is a stupidly long amount of time to be having this problem.

Anecdotally, I can confirm it is the Plex app. I’ve been watching shows all morning in the Edge browser, signed into my Plex account, without one single buffering issue. It’s just a pita and more cumbersome than using the native app.

Tx

It is the Plex app on the Xbox, I bought a player called the Vero 4k+ like an open source nvidia shield because I was tired of waiting for Plex or MS to fix the issue and that little box streams 4k HDR all day long on wifi without so much as a single video studder, it is in the same area as my Xbox and hitting the same sever wirelessly.

It might ease our concerns if we got an update every blue moon on what is being done to fix this issue

I’ve always heard, the squeaky wheel gets the grease.

@Moussa Have yall figured out Wtf is wrong with the Plex app on Xbox/Xbone? It’s been 3wks and 2days since I last posted/asked. I work in infosec and understand prioritizing projects, but it’s poor form to ignore queries.

I/we’re not asking for things to be fixed yesterday, but acknowledgement of ■■■■ being broken would go a long way to not getting bagged on for lack of support.

Tx

@Moussa Yall have any updates on this?

+1 same issue for me with a newly bought Xbox One S and x265 videos. Some of them keep buffering all the time, others play and buffer for a few seconds but with a slow rate so they never playback constantly.

This is really weird though, since I notice the most issues only on x265, some of my x264 seem to play pretty decent though.

Still nothing I see???

Same story there

Just figure I’d pile on for this. I have never had a good experience using the Plex app on Xbox. Usually around 20 minutes and it starts buffering. If I have to fast forward or rewind for any length of time, when I start the video playback it’s choppy. I can usually fix this by killing the Plex app and reopening it but it’s an incredible pain in the ass and sad that this hasn’t been fixed.

Any word on this gettin fixed?

Nope, no one is going to fix this

Well I have to say this afternoon as been none stop buffering,

Come on please, get this issue resolved.

Xbox one is one of the best all rounder media players,

Was watching a movie using Plex on my Xbox One in the living room, and could maybe watch 10 minutes before the movie stops to start buffering without ever resuming, having to stop, then resume to watch another 5-10 minutes, repeat 15+ times during the entire movie.
When nearing the end and it was maybe 1-2 minutes to go before end credits, it happened again, and of course since that close to the end of the movie (9min, 50 sec to end) Plex automatically assumes I’m done watching and shows the movie as completed, can’t resume from where I stopped, so had to go watch the rest in Plex in Opera GX on my PC >_>
Seriously, this damn bug needs to be fixed already!

Has anyone tried turning off direct play and letting the PC transcode the audio? I’ve turned direct play off and leave direct stream enabled. While it’s still not perfect, there’s much less buffering. It still buffers a little, but it doesn’t stop me from getting through a show or a movie.

Turning off direct play removes the ability to do 4k HDR

Are you certain? Do you have a way to confirm? Direct play should only be for audio, and there’s a separate setting for HDR. Not sure how forcing the audio to transcode would strip the HDR especially if Allow HDR remains enabled.

It is the plex app indeed, ive been having buffering issues on my xbox one x, i switched to the plex app on my LG tv and i don’t get buffer issues anymore.
