Plex Hanging but still using CPU

Server Version#: PlexMediaServer-1.18.2.2058-e67a4e892-x86_64
Player Version#: All Players

I’m having an issue. I recently upgraded to a Synology DS918+. I’m using 3. 4TB WB NAS drives in SHR mode. Plex is installed manually through the package center and downloaded directly from plex.tv .

it was working perfectly for about 2 months. then a couple weeks ago something happened, and now at least once a day it locks up in a weird way.

1st. No new devices can access the media server. It will just say server unavailable.
2nd. I say new, because if you were watching something on it before it “crashed” - for lack of a better word" , your movie or show would continue to play and you wouldn’t notice it was down at all. This will even allow for series’ where the next episode plays automatically.
3rd. To fix this, all I have to do is stop the server by logging into the DS918+ and then then starting it again. This fixes it quickly, everytime.
4th. Sometimes the fix lasts a while. Sometimes only a few minutes.
5th. It seems to be triggered by adding of new media. But not always, sometimes it adds media just fine.

Now, around the time this started happening I updated from:

PlexMediaServer-1.18.2.2058-e67a4e892-x86_64
to
PlexMediaServer-1.18.5.2309-f5213a238-x86_64

I have since reverted back to PlexMediaServer-1.18.2.2058-e67a4e892-x86_64 . I found it was maybe a little more stable. But ultimately it is locked up right now, so that didn’t work.

So, right now the NAS shows that PMS is taking up 50% of the CPU, even though it is completely un accessible on any device. Also I can hear that the NAS drives are doing something over there. Even though I can not access plex to see if someone is on it, there is a chance one of my users are using it right now.

I am completely unfamiliar with logs, though I do know how to get the zip file. Could someone who knows this help me out? This is really frustrating having to restart the server a couple times a day.

Also, it would be great if you could explain how to like… redact the user account emails that are logging in. You know, privacy stuff.

Thanks

FAQ 1

I can access the plex directory and the logs. My problem is that the logs have the users’ emails addresses in them don’t they?
