Plex Media Server - Synology DSM 7 Preview - Issues ( Archive )

don’t see a migration.log, and the latest edited log is from back in august. the plexmediaserver folder is pretty empty too

interestingly, the quickconnect tab where i had been running the install is still not logged me out of dsm. the connection i made through synology assistant to look for the processes has autologged me out.

If I may add?

Metadata in the Plex share means ---- DID NOT MIGRATE

Uninstall + ERASE again to clear out PlexMediaServer

(Still cleaning up that darn Repair)

Erase will never remove contents from the Plex shared folder.

It only erases PlexMediaServer or the DSM internal area.

there is no migration.log in any folder in plex share is what i meant.

so i went into package center again and plex was showing as needing repair. i’m uninstalling instead and chose erase option again.

this is becoming more painstaking than it seemed… haha

And now you know why I wrote the Instructions novel

( you should have heard me while developing this stuff – without instructions )

Unfortunately I had to uninstall and erase everything, because the migration didn’t work.
after one week and slowly adding 2000 movies in the media library, PSM is lagging and needs a minute to load the actorlist and mostly it can’t play any movie.
Sometimes it works, then it lags when i make a normal 10sec forward and so on and i cant replay it anymore.
I have those PSM issues on my LG OLED and on two iPhone devices, i can’t even use the search option in PSM.
Everything was fine before DSM7.

so i still see no migration log and the error message says migration failed… : o(

@kiddtaylor

You missed the all-important step of setting “Full Control” for System Internal User “Plex Media Server” and “Apply to this folder, sub-folders, and files”.

If you still have all your metadata in the Plex share, which you should, we can address it in File Station.

Instructions, presuming your metadata is still in the “Plex” shared folder.

  1. FileStation

  2. Left Pane

  3. Right click “Plex”

  4. Properties

  5. Permissions tab

  6. See “PlexMediaServer” now listed

  7. Highlight it

  8. Click EDIT

  9. Make certain Administration, Read, and Write are checked

  10. Click DONE

  11. Check the box “Apply to this folder, sub-folders, and files”

  12. Click SAVE

  13. Now patiently wait while it sets all the permissions

  14. When done,

  15. Install the package again

  16. It will jump right to “Installing”

  17. It will sit there until migration is completed.

(YES, there are a LOT of details in doing this. That’s what happens when the OS doesn’t let you have administrative level (root) permissions . If I had root permissions, you wouldn’t see any of this hassle

@Tsubasa

Because of all the media which was added in a large group, you need to take extra effort to get the database optimized again.

It’s going to be awkward and slow to optimize with it this large already but it must be done and it will be fine again.

i’d set full control before and it still says full control:

@kiddtaylor

Please follow the remainder of my instructions. “Apply to this folder , sub-folder, and files”.

System error 0 only occurs when one of the files down inside does not have Full Control assigned to it.

well this is what my permissions are set with for plexmediaserver

oh i found the checkbox!

I knew it.

Use the GUI method first.

that ‘apply to’ dropdown seemed like what you were talkin about, so i was just blind to the checkbox in the previous window:

now it’s actually processing something so will just randomly check back in intervals to see if it is finished

Yep. That’s why I wrote the instructions as I did.

@trumpy81 yes. But I dont even see live TV & DVR anywhere as an option. Its not listed under manage/libraries. And when I click on Users and Sharing, then a HOME user, I dont see live tv and dvr as an option. The one home user I tested it with is able to see it, but not sure why

@trumpy81 Yes, I am on the local LAN now. THats the only way I got it working at all. It pretty much seems to be fine now… I have a couple of libraries that show empty still (Even though I did permissions correctly) but I think its because its still scanning my libraries. For instance I have TV Shows but its showing as empty now because it didnt scan it yet, its still scanning my music library.
Before, when I wasnt on the LAN, nothing worked. However when I took your advice everything started working except live tv and dvr

@trumpy81 Will do, thank you. And yes, makes sense. Ill let it finish its scanning before I make any changes or do anything. Hopefully by morning its done and I can continue.

okay, i’m not sure what is going on now…it looks like all my metadata just disappeared…
so during the install of the beta pms software, i got a popup that said something like there was some other program or process or something that was installing so the pms couldn’t complete. i clicked the ok, and then closed the install window thinking i’d need to start again. but in the package center it showed pms was statused ‘installing…’. i looked in task manager and did see the ‘mv’ process running so thought i just needed to leave it alone.
now the pms has finished installing and has the beta version 1.21.0-3744. the service is not running as i had unchecked the ‘start when done installing’ as i figured i’d be upgrading the software before using it anyway.
when i look in the old ‘Plex’ folder structure, i see no migration.log, i don’t see the group of different languaged files, and i don’t see the metadata or any other folders other than Library and Application Support…and when i look at ‘PlexMediaServer’ i see the group of languaged files in the root, and also in the AppData, but no ‘Metadata’!
have i just lost all the metadata? will it only show if i start the PMS service? (didn’t want to start it in case in might screw a rollback of some kind in case that was possible?) shouldn’t a migration.log show up regardless? i never got a window that said migration failed or completed.

I have never seen such a messed up installation since this all began almost a year ago.

Since you have “PlexMediaServer/AppData” that tells me you did install 1.24.2.4973 or higher at some point but you’re making a lot of references to the BETA 1.21.0.3744 – which is incompatible with DSM 7.0.41890.

Also, your AppData is empty so something went VERY wrong.

I would like you to do the following:

  1. Create a scheduled task - User script
  2. Set it to run as the ‘root’ user
  3. Be certain to email you the output (We need that information)
  4. Contents of the “Script” portion are as follows
#!/bin/bash

echo Hidden Pathname: /volume*/\@apphome/PlexMediaServer

echo Location of PMS: /volume*/\@apphome/PlexMediaServer/*

echo Contents of PMS: $(ls -la /volume*/\@apphome/PlexMediaServer/Plex\ Media\ Server)
  1. Run the task.
  2. You will get email from DSM almost immediately.
  3. Disable the task (uncheck the box) so it doesn’t run again.

Before we continue, PLEASE promise you will stop using 1.21.0.3744 and NOT use anything from Package Center until such time as the version is at least 1.24.2.4973
