Plex Media Server - Synology DSM 7 Preview - Issues ( Archive )

Yes. Notice it is taking time to finish?

i need to uninstall again plex. what option should i choose? -ERASE? or uninstall only?

Why do you need to uninstall?

If ALL your data is in the Plex shared folder – Uninstall + Erase.

This is where you need to look at the Migration.log

Does it say "Start: Migrate Plex Media Server:

i restarted DSM. then this is showing up.

What is in Migration.log ?

Migration.log (25.1 KB)

right now still finishing the saving of permission. sorry thought it was done already when i ticked the checkbox to apply to sub folders.

this is a mess.

It was (or IS) moving the data.

Does package center still show it “Installing” ?

You don’t have any Linux command line skills, do you?

So i completed the migration but now I can’t seem to read the video folder that used to work in the old plex. I messed with the permissions a bit again, even the advanced permissions and it still can’t seem to read anything in the folder. Any ideas on how to get this new version of plex permissions to the video folder so i can re-add the libraries?

i haven’t started installing again after i restarted my DSM. im still finishing the permission. before i start installing again. i think i need to uninstall PMS. what option should i choose? uninstall or erase again?

im making everything sure first before i start again the installation.

@thund3rsh0ck

As shown in the popup when it finished. Give user PlexMediaServer permission to read.

IF you’ve already done that then you have a choice.

  1. Move the media out from the Synology folders (video ?)
    -or-
  2. Use their “Convert to WindowsACL” button and then add System Internal User PlexMediaServer on the permission list again.

@robbyong

I cannot advise you because the information you are showing me is conflicting.

There is only one way to learn truth and that is at the command line.

Do you have Linux command line skills ?

If you have none – then we have an answer.
If you are comfortable – then we have another answer

got it- thanks, yeah apparently the wrong move was to enable advanced permissions on the folder

oh yeah.

On Synology “Advanced Permissions” = “Bigger pain in XXXX”

LOL

i dunno why im still getting this error? Migration (2).log (14.6 KB)

i already fixed the permission and waited for it to finish saving. let me know what did i miss. thank you Chuck.

Let it run. That is simply linkage metadata which is easily recreated when you “Refresh All Metadata”

finished
i messed up. cause i restarted DSM while installing. thought it will fail again. i run plex and i cant access it. so i re install again. now it’s working
 thank you so much ChuckPa.

Let it finish.

After it does, and you can get into it properly and see all the media is there, “Refresh All Metadata” to make sure it updates.

EDIT: It finished – Refresh all metadat

I just want to say THANK YOU to all those posting help and support.

I upgraded to DSM 7 and no matter what I tried I couldn’t get plex to work then scrolling down all the post I read the uninstall plex but keep the data and then install the spk from the plex site (not Synolgy) and do the token to claim my server and it worked perfectly.

Had so many of you not stepped in to help, offer advice and support I would have been stuck, lol. So even though I didn’t post for help, I still felt it important to say thanks.

Migration.log (26.7 KB)

Upgraded from DSM 6 > 7
Plex no longer worked.
Downloaded the DSM 7 version of Plex
Uninstalled/Unclaimed server.
Attempted to reinstall, but installation appears to hang.
Migration log doesn’t appear to update/change.
How long should I let the install continue?
