See if you have a PlexMediaServer folder visible in File Station, you could periodically check the properties on that to see if timestamps or the size is changing. There’s a migration.log file someplace too, I’m not sure where that is, @chuckpa would be the person to help with that…
Hi!
I am trying to move my plex server from Nvidia Shield to a Synology NAS.
Here are the steps I took:
- copied all media files to the NAS (from external hardrive)
- manually installed PLEX on NAS
- claimed the new PLEX server with my PLEX acccount
What I would then like to do is import my library structure, metadata and playlists. I did find a tutorial on youtube that walks you through the process, but it tells you to copy into a shared “plex” folder.
Issue: I do not have a “plex” shared folder and I cannot see a “plexmediaserver” user (even though I am using an admin login).
When browsing in PLEX from the “add library” view. I can see that the folder I am likely looking for is “/volume1/@apphome/PlexMediaServer/Plex Media Server”.
I have tried connecting in FTP via filezilla but it brings me to an empty folder with solely a “#recycle” folder. I have tried connecting via SMB but I only see the shared folders (not this @apphome one).
Can you advise?
Thanks
I had issues with different browsers on PC (there is also SMB issue on my Windows 11 communication with NAS apperently, but it’s not about PC in this forum), but finally succeeded with Android browser to upgrade Plex. A very strange issue indeed
I am a new user. Just got my DS720+ this Friday. The NAS came with DSM 7 loaded, I believe, or I ran the code to load it. I have spent time installing the Beta that was in Packages, and have also installed from Plex, PMS for DSM 7 from the Plex web site. This version is currently installed. [1.24.0.4930-7000]
After some debugging, what I see is Cors Errors in the Chrome Debugger

Request came in with unrecognized domain / IP ‘192-168-1-110.okaloosa.direct.quickconnect.to’ in header Host; treating as non-local
My Server is Name is okaloosa
DSM Version is DSM 7.0-41890
Model Name DS720+
Server IP 192.168.1.110
I get the Error Not authorized.
I have been reading this issue a lot today. Hope I am in the right place reporting what will help resolve this issue.
Thanks in advance of any solution.Plex Media Server (1).log (551.5 KB)
Point your web browser to the IP address of your NAS. Do not use quickconnect.
https://192.168.1.110:32400/web/index.html
or
https://192.168.1.110:32400/web/index.html
If you’ve already setup and claimed your server, access via https://app.plex.tv/desktop/.
We are waiting for Synology to let us know what the status of this is.
It appears to be a DSM 7.0-41890 error
I am no longer getting, Not Authorized, but the browser in looping with a spinning disk. I am running Chrome 91.0.4472.77. I suspect the issue could be that Chrome has changed some settings in the browser to help prevent cross site request forgery.
I am still getting cors errors as listed before when I look in the debugger. It did seem to prevent the Not Authorized error.
I also have Safari browser, but it does not work either. Might be I could use a browser they does not set the header to strict-origin-when-cross-origin.
I will look for a browser that does not set header to strict-origin-when-cross-orgin. If this resolves my issues, I will report back. Thanks for the help.

I found that this was the issue. I resolved this by going to url. chrome://flags/
there you search for the flag Block insecure private network requests. and set to disable.
The Browser needs to be restarted, and the application now appears to work.
I do believe that this will require a code change in the future in the ui code. If you have any questions, let me know. I will be testing out my new Plex Media Server! Yeah…
Thanks for the info and glad you have things working. ChuckPA will be able to pass the info to the Plex developer & test teams.
FWIW, I’m using Chrome 92.0.4515.131 with Block insecure private network requests = Default on a MacBook Pro 2011 running Sierra (also on Win10 Pro). Maybe the MacOS version comes into play some how? I’ll leave that to the developers/testers.
Anyway, glad you have things working. And we know what to check in case other users report cors errors when accessing Plex.
I did as ChuckPa suggested, renaming the Shared Folder Plex to Plex-old and created the new Shared Folder plex with the user permissions as suggested - Custom checkbox now available from the new Shared Folder created. Then I was able move the Library and reinstall PMS. I had to recreate the Server setup from scratch but it went through without a hitch and re-indexed all my media once I had selected my Media folders in the PMS setup wizard. Apparently though all i needed to do was to convert the folder to Windows ACL and that would have fixed it!!
Apologize - not sure how to jump in correctly. Made the mistake, upgraded to DSM 7 without uninstall plex. I have everything working in dsm 7 BUT no matter what I do with permissions, cannot next a new upgrade to get past permissions (believe I have followed everything, but . . ) . . Looking for advice please - do I need to do an uninstall now. Thank you . .
Show which username currently owns the “Plex” share
Also show the permissions of the Plex shared folder.
Thank you admin and my name have read/write privileges. . . was told with dsm7 no longer was a plex share, but just in case I changed the shared folder to the name Plex Did the deeper level permissions per postings, so not sure why its not working - not letting me update plex server …
Hi, I don’t know if this is normal but, my installation isn’t working, it creates the migrating.log file but there are only error messages written in it and I can’t find a solution to it. Could you help me?Migration-7.log (2.7 MB)
This goes on for about 20 min and then the process is interrupted with the message that it failed and I should restart DSM.
Once I try restarting DSM, it tells me that a package is still being installed, but the migration.log isn’t showing any progress anymore
Thank you for any help
When you say Interrupt and it tells you to restart DSM – IGNORE IT.
Go to Control Panel - Security - set the idle timeout value to 65535
Log out and back in.
Now bring up Resource Monitor → Processes.
Look for any of the following processes:
- chown
- chmod
- find
- realpath
- mv
Please let me know what you see.
I suspect your system is still migrating. Every restart causes it to start over from the beginning.
Your Migration.log file shows me you have a ton of “junk” files in the Plex metadata area. It might be a good idea to clean those up. Please advise if you wish to do that.
If permissions seems OK, any solution other than uninstalling and reinstalling PMS - DSM 7 Thank you
Show me what you have?
FYI –
On Synology, I keep the program and your metadata separate.
The direct result is it’s always safe to uninstall PMS UNLESS you tell it to ERASE
- Uninstall the DSM 7 package & KEEP your data
- Next show me the contents of your Plex share – Specifically, the contents of “Library / Application Support / Plex Media Server”
This is what I found

So I’ll just let it run?
Btw the current migration log
Migration-10.log (2.1 MB)
Yes,
Let it run.
It is performing all the tasks to upgrade the metadata from DSM 6 layout to DSM 7 layout.
Be advised —
DO NOT RESTART DSM at this point.
Let it run.
After converting over from 6, do not have folder “library” or any of the items you mentioned visible in Plex (media share). . its has subdirectories Movies+ TV shows+ DVDs+ I put files in . . plex DVR is still working, recording TV shows in folder it’s suppose to, so . . how do I find what you’re asking for, or is that part of my problem. So I can do uninstall as you say, but what should I do from there . . . Again, thank you
If the Plex shared folder is now empty, you’ve completed migration.
Everyone who gets forcibly logged out by DSM ultimately finds themselves not seeing the final completion messages
Before digging any further, one fundamental question must be asked –
Do you have full control of your server as you normally would in the Plex/web GUI and does it otherwise run normally ?
