This same bug (scenes being skipped with no way to stop it once the movie is 5-10 minutes in) has been happening to any 4K movie I play via the latest Samsung Plex app with Tizen 2.4. This has been occurring for quite a while now and I listed the original bug thread here-
I don’t think it’s the same problem. This error appears immediately and it affects all resolutions not only 4K and can be solved for now by downgrading the server to a previous version.
Ok, good to know, thanks for letting me know @Deme74.
I although still feel this 4K stream issue is also very much in need of a fix. This has also been happening for months now. Thank you.
Unfortunately not everyone can simply downgrade. For example, Synology PMS doesn’t allow downgrading, and I don’t have the old version anyway. Samsung doesn’t allow downgrading either unless you have an older version on USB. Turning off Direct Play helps but is not ideal.
Plex has known about this for several days at this point, so they really need to prioritize releasing a PMS patch. They aren’t big on communication, but an update would be appreciated.
I have the same problem, for me it started with update of client app on Samsung Tizen TV. Same problem skipping non regulary or crashing after 4 minutes and 50 seconds of video playback.
There isn’t a fix for this listed in the notes for the just released on beta server 1.16.5.1488…
Staying downgraded until a confirmed fix is available
Just upgrade PMS to V. 1.16.4.1469, can’t watch anything without this “random fast forward witchcraft” on my Samsung TV (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻
EDIT : tested with V. 1.16.5.1488, same issue
+1 to having this issue, brand new PMS as well
It’s shocking to me that they put out an update today that doesn’t bother to address this major issue. Can someone from Plex please tell us what they are doing about this?
Can someone from Plex please tell us what they are doing about this? With Plex unusable for so many people, can we get an ETA on a fix?
just updated the server to 1.16.5.1488 still having the same problem. It’s NOT as bad, but it is doing pretty much the same thing
Ah, sorry, I thought it could be done on a NAS too. I’m not using Plex on my Synology because it’s not powerful enough so I wasn’t thinking bout it.
I’m having the same issue as @FahimF. I upgraded my Ubuntu Linux Server version from 1.16.3 to 1.16.4 and got the problem. It persisted to the 1.16.5 upgrade as well. Downgrading the server to 1.16.3 eliminated the issue. My clients are also mainly Roku. Source encoding has been varied: .avi, .mkv, and .mp4.
I started a thread here: Transcoder issues since 1.16.4, which includes logs. @Deme74 suggested this thread may be the same issue and I think that may be the case. However, I never would have found this thread since I believe the issue is on the server, not the client (or not on all clients, anyway).
Just rolledback to 1.16.3, no more issue

Same issue as everyone else. Disabling direct stream is a working fix for now.
Got the same issue when updating my plex server today from version 1.16.3.1402 to 1.16.4.1469.
After playing about 1-2 minutes it buffers quickly and jumps to 7 minutes of the episode or more.
This only happened on my samsung TV running the latest plex app.
Tv details:
Model code: UE65KS8005
Software version: T-JZMDEUC-12.40.0, BT-S
Sub-micom version: T-JZMDEUS-1007’
“Solution” for me was to revert back to the previous plex media server version (1.16.3.1402).
Same problem here…
I usually install upgrades right away… this one took me a while, and I just installed and was watching an episode of Suits, and bang… random skipping.
Downloaded the episode again (I thought it was a problem with the video), same problem… Apparently happens on same exact points…
Then I came to the forum to see this here… impressive how it’s taking and no updates…
I usually have all versions on my download folder, so I could easily install an older version, but a day before yesterday I delete them all… doh! of course it would happen now, eh?
Anyway…
Samsumg TV too…
QNAP Plex version
Same 1.16.4.1469 problematic version…
(i won’t bother trying a new Samsung App since the server upgrade broke the thing…
Yes, Plex has gone silent on the whole issue since I first submitted logs with no indication that they’ve made patching it a priority. I’ve also been schooled on their priority, which is development, not technical support (although to most people, development includes testing releases and reacting to glitches with urgency). Since we get no communication, we can only assume that they are more focused on their ios release than making sure this one works correctly.
I agree it’s frustrating; in the meantime two workarounds have been mentioned: disable directl stream/play or rollback the server.
