Plex randomly jumping forward during playback

Yes, and that’s helpful. Except, rollback isn’t an option on my Synology NAS, so I’ve disabled the Direct Play. That isn’t ideal either. Yes, I can watch something straight through, but I get more buffering and lose the ability to fast forward anything without the file freezing up.

Plex needs to react to things more quickly, particularly when launching a new release. And when you promote something as professionally as Plex presents itself, they have a responsibility to react professionally to major issues. I’m tired of them using the “free” excuse. Nowhere in their brand promotion or on their website do they say, “it’s free, so we’re not responsible if things don’t work properly.” Lack of communication is their biggest problem, and there is nothing more frustrating to consumers. I keep getting told that the community is there if we need help, which is awesome, but the community is for users to assist each other with learning curves and tips. They cannot do anything about glitches that should be developer responsibility.

Also having same issues since updating to latest server version.

rollback not an option for me either, posting to hopefully help convince plex this is a real issue requiring immediate patching.

Is disabling direct stream/play on the Samsung app an option?

I’m having the same issue but only on my Samsung tv. Streams work fine on my iPad, iPhone, MacBook, and remotely on other TVs. Disabling direct stream/play fixed if for now, but that’s not really an answer.

I was going crazy reinstalling PMS, the Plex app on tv, going through network settings, and just other troubleshooting strategies. I really hope Plex addresses this issue, sends out a fix, and learns from it to deal with issues like this quickly as well as allow/send out rollback updates so you don’t have to do it manually.

Bugs will always exist and it might not always be possible to quickly provide a hot-fix version.
I do however believe that if one claims that their software is supported on specific operating systems then a new release should be thoroughly tested by their application test team. This specific bug would have been quite easy to spot if proper testing would have been done on each OS/Device they claim to be supported.

This is of course easier said than done to manage.

The simplest solution Plex could implement is a release deployment feature that allows plex server owners to simply rollback to an older version via the web interface which is supported on all operating systems the plex media server can be installed on. This would allow users to spot a bug, report it and then be able to rollback themselves. Plex team could then work on resolving this in a later release without major impact on their users.

Same. Sometimes it jumps a few seconds ahead, and sometimes it switches in whole chapters. And so very often, it is impossible to watch. Before updating the application on the TV everything was fine, please correct

The errors started happening evening of 8/14/2019, and then constantly after 11:00pm. I actually didn’t have an issue with one television episode, but every movie I played buffered then jumped ahead 30 secs to 12 minutes every few minutes, even movies that played perfectly the night before.

+1, Having this issue also. Updated Plex not long ago and now am having skipping occur on two of my local clients, both of which are Samsung UHD Smart TVs. So far, the issue hasn’t presented on my Shield, but I will have to test it out again tonight and see what happens. This issue is already getting old. Was trying to watch an episode of a show with the family and it almost made it unwatchable. Plex development team really needs to get on top of this. I didn’t pay 120 dollars for the lifetime pass for half my clients to stop working right after an update with no fix.

Edit: Disabling direct play and direct stream is what I needed to do to get around this issue

Just chiming in to say that i have the same problem. upgraded the server last night and now my Samsung just skips ahead randomly every few seconds. All other clients work. Disabling direct play fixed it for now.

My Samsung TV (UN40KU6290FXZA) Plex App is broken after the latest update (as of 8/16). Years of reliable play have suddenly stopped and now every video buffers and skips ahead.
Steps Taken:
-Reboot server (unRAID)
-Reinstalled Plex on server (Linux container) and Plex App on TV
-Power cycled entire network and tested connection speeds across the house - TV has a great connection and other web apps continue to run flawlessly.
-Logged off/on all accounts

This is 100% an app issue. Nothing in my environment has changed other than this latest update.

EXACT same issue. Thank god I’m not the only one…

TV Shows jumping forward then Movies buffering and freezing. SO ANNOYING!!

Same here: I have a Samsung TV using Plex ver 3.105.0 Tizen 2.4.0

I’m following this thread to see what changes are made and for the time being I have turned off direct stream and direct play. Its “usable” now but could use a fix!

Having same issue with Samsung TV & a ChromeCast. Not every file is affected though. I swapped an h264+AAC mkv that didn’t work with an MPEG4+Mp3 avi that worked fine on the TV (ku6400). However, a different MPEG4+Mp3 avi didn’t work on the ChromeCast. Can’t confirm right now if they were transcoding or not, but can check later. This was all LAN streaming and SD quality.

Have been experiences the same issues. I created a new thread with all the details as instructed/requested by the pinned post [ Plex 3.109.2 for Samsung FHD devices. I would like to note that I became an unwilling Beta tester. I did not download this new app version and side load as detailed. The app was pushed out to both of my Samsung TVs by the Samsung App store without my consent.

I’ve tried downgrading the Plex Server from the latest version 1.16.4 to PlexMediaServer-1.16.3. This resolved the skipping but sound still cuts out and video playback is poor. Again, the only issue is with Samsung/Tizen app. Playback on all other devices (Windows, MacOS, Android) works without issue.

From what I’ve read in this thread earlier versions of the Plex Tizen App are also broken. So, even if available, will not resolve all issues.

Me too, this is useless, even the latest beta dont fix it. Where can I download the old FW for qnap

Same issue. I was going crazy trying to troubleshoot it. Downgrading PMS to 1.16.3.1402 cleared it right up.

The last update of Plex Is a complety dissaster, movies jump a several minutes, so I reinstalled a previous versión and problem fix.

Uninstalling Plex and install a previous version

Where did you find 1.16.3.1402? Or did you have it stored local? I know previous versions are all available on the Plex site if you change the download URL from the current version to the older one, but you have to know all the letter extensions that go with it.

For what its worth to anyone following the thread:

–= For me, this issue does not effect FireTV or Firestick setups. =–

I have a newer Toshiba TV with the FireTV OS, as well as two Firesticks on other TVs in my home. They all work just fine, so I threw a Firestick on my big Samsung 4K for now.

Considering this is the second time is 6 months the Samsung Plex app has gone to hell I’m going to always have an extra Firestick around as soon as problems crop up. Even if this gets fixed its only a matter of time before something else happens I guess.
