I give instructions for doing so above.
Please keep in mind, I donāt know what Iām doing, but I tried the following, and it seams to have fix the app crashing, for me anyway.
I removed all the files from the Databases folder as suggested above, Plex runs fine, but my library is gone.
I put all the files back, Plex crashes.
I remove one file at a time, until Plex no longer crashes.
I then put back all files except the last one I removed.
Plex now runs fine, and my library seams to be intact.
So, the only file I needed to remove is
com.plexapp.plugins.library.blobs.db.
I hope that helps
I tried that first, it didāt work
People can have different problems. I wonder if that file was corrupted or if there was a permissions issue. For you, Plex was crashing - you werenāt getting an entire OS panic, correct?
Did you lose anything when you deleted that file?
I have the impression the *blobs DB file contains information about intro detection, and I think music loudness analysis. My guess is those tasks would simply be performed again by the task scheduler / butler / maintenance jobs.
Yes, in my case, Plex just wouldnāt run, as far as I can see, itās all intact.
This sort of stuff is way above my pay grade, but thanks to people like yourself on these forums, I manage to scrape through (just) :o)
I canāt get Plex to launch in my user account (where it lives with all its libraries) but I can get it to launch with another user account. So it is possible for it to work in Big Sur ⦠more investigation needed.
This worked for me too, in being able to actually get Plex Server to launch, thanks for the tip, however when I try to play anything I get the error, āCouldnāt retrieve the play queue for this item. Please try againā
In Terminal:
defaults write com.plexapp.plexmediaserver DlnaEnabled 0
Thatās for the other issue
To quote myself:
it appears thereās two different issues being discussed in this thread: one is where DLNA seems to cause a full blown kernel panic, the other one is where an old library (migrated from the old macOS system) causes Plex to silently crash when it starts.
Just wanted to bump and get an update on this⦠Iāve been holding off on updating to Big Sur based on this issue. So just to recap:
- Is this still an issue on macOS 11.0.1, with the current version of PMS?
- It appears that this macOS crash only occurs if DLNA is enabled. Is that still understood to be the case?
- Has it been determined that the Plex crash reported in this thread is caused by a different issue? If so, is it still related to Big Sur?
Thanks, all.
The kernel panic happened if all three of these things were true:
-
macOS Big Sur 11.0 and 11.0.1 (public release)
- It no longer happens in the macOS Big Sur 11.1 beta. Apple has fixed the bug there.
-
Network Extensions installed
- Many network extensions have released updated versions that work around the bug. Both TripMode and Little Snitch have done so.
-
Plex DLNA server enabled
- Disabling the Plex DLNA server avoids the crash.
I canāt speak to the issues @certuna and @GTM and @jhrye had. I donāt have a sense of how they upgrade/migrated to Big Sur, or if there was a consistent problem.
A post was split to a new topic: Plex on tvOS no longer recognizing PMS after upgrade to macOS 11 (Big Sur)
