PLEX SERVERS DOWN - Users Denied Access to Even Their Local Content

I just got in after three attempts; looks like it’s a matter of chance as to whether or not authentication times out… both when you’re using the plex web server at home, and logging directly into plex.tv. It’s very frustrating not to have access to my local content when PLEX has a problem with their servers. Grrrr!!!

Yeah just not you, its for everyone, you can check https://status.plex.tv/ for when there is an update

But i agree i don’t understand why their servers need to be up for us to access our local content either…

Ah that explains why I cant watch anything right now.

It wasn’t always that way… back in the day, you didn’t have to stay connected with plex.tv to access your local content. Not sure why this was ever changed; I think it should be changed back!

Yes this is crap, been getting lots of buffering, kicked out of the movie.
Agree why do I need to rely on connection to plex.tv server for my own stuff

Yep. It’s completely reasonable to not access cloud content when cloud issues occur.
However, it’s completely unreasonable to not have access to local content. This needs to be fixed.

We aren’t the first to voice our discontent on this matter:

I figured, because i never seen this and now this? Haha thank you clearing that up!

Chiming in with another voice: vented my frustrations here. Similar issue, but I’ve been flat out denied being able to log in even while status.plex.tv reports all green. Really frustrating.

Someone should start a petition on Change.org about bringing back cached authentication for access to local content.

Given their near total silence, and the fact that the other thread linked dates back to early 2018, I think they’ve made their feelings clear.

My next question, then, is what kind of security flaws I’d have to sweat if I rolled back that far?

One thing that was better about this outage, compared to some previous outages, is that I didn’t have to sign out and sign back in on idle devices, or restart the server.

It recovered much more gracefully.

(Edit: I didn’t have the symptoms others, below, are reporting. I’ve had similar issues after previous outages.)

Local access without internet is possible, as long as you’re prepared.

I’m still having issues on my server, it will seem to log me in then not pull up my library, then it will pull up my library and not log me in

Still with problems. Home is not accessible, invite user is down, updates also down…

same here…
how can we avoid that “cloud issue” have an impact on local access ??

Installed Emby because I was tired of waiting for Plex to add playback speed adjustment. Seems to work just fine without needing outside internet from what I’ve read. Now I regret buying Plexplus pass or whatever.

I used emby during one year…but it’s more difficult to share with other users with Emby :frowning:
