Random Shows Refuse to play - Causes Player restart

Fair enough. Best of luck!

:+1: Thanks.

I’ve just started having this problem and like anything else broken in plex, not surprised its been an issue for MONTHS.

Sometimes the only way to get things fixed is to be annoying. But Plex doesn’t fix anything anymore.

We’re just going to have to keep tagging staff until this gets fixed.
@BigWheel

If I have news I will provide it. Unfortunately there are lots of bugs on android, each of which are a top of importance to those who experience them, and the team is tackling them as they can. You are welcome to tag me, I will poke devs about it but I unfortunately can’t make the fix come faster.

There may be other reasons for the restart but from what I have seen in this topic it is due to images embedded in the file. If you don’t have images embedded in the file that this happens with then it may be a different issue for similar symptom and would need logs for that and a sample file.

@BigWheel The issue as I see here is that Plex is trying too hard to add features that the product is suffering from operating in it’s most basic function. I noticed that you are now looking to beta test the feature to skip the end credits like you do with the opening intro. Cool feature, but your product can apparently no longer properly stream files that have embedded pics that match a certain quality where this was never a problem before. Why doesn’t Plex take a break from attempting grandizing new features for a short bit and concentrate on fixing BASIC FUNCTIONALITY issues first!!! A complex system based upon an unsound foundation is bound to fail.

You are welcome to feel whatever you wish. Plenty of folks complain daily that we are not implementing their feature request they see as the utmost importance. I’m not going to get into a debate about it. Cuz it will lead nowhere and won’t fix the issue at hand faster

@BigWheel It’s not a debate. It’s sound logical advice: A complex system based upon an unsound foundation is bound to fail.

Besides, if the program can’t work on a sound basic level, what good is adding features?

And this is a perfect example of the thinking at Plex HQ, "oh we got all this money lets add some crap that also won’t work instead of just making sure paying customers can play movies or TV "

There are bug reports from years ago that still haven’t been fixed, there are startup projects on github less then 6 months old that can play more types of video and do it better.

How about instructions to work around this at least? how do we stop pictures from being embedded on the video file, hell I don’t even understand how this is a problem but I’ll take any fix that lets me watch for more then 10 seconds without a problem.

That all depends on what you used to make the file. I have no idea what you used to to that. I personally use Mkvtoolnix for mkvs, and metaz for mp4s for editing embedded metadata

@BigWheel I think you are missing the broader picture of what @sv117 and I are saying… Plex needs to get back to basics and have a solid foundational product FIRST… before attempting to add on newer features.

I understand what you are saying. What I am saying is with large number of bugs I’m sorry the one y’all in this topic happen to care about it is not getting pushed to the top of the list.

oh I got tons more, you want a list? Android for firestick, restarts when starting a movie/show and completely restarts plex, ios is very broken with 4k playback being a huge issue. Should I go on?

The point is you took what was working and somehow broke it over pictures? seriously this is the dumbest bug I’ve ever seen in a video player, a movie is just pictures played really fast so by the logic I’m seeing in the responses it should be crashing 100% of the time?

I know there is more bugs. I already said that. Again I’m sorry the bugs you happen to care about are not at the top of the list.
