Server Crashing Randomly on Windows 10

I upgraded to v1.21.4.4079-1b7748a7b on Monday. It hasn’t crashed since.

db folder:

Can I delete the 6GB db files now?

Can’t see a crash. The logs which were captured at Feb 09, 2021 17:22:00 show server was running ok at that time and it was last launched at 11:45 am

The Plex Media Server log files only go back to 14:29 - so if the crash was before or at 11:45 - i do not have Plex Media Server logs covering that period

Please upload to the current version 1.21.4.4079-1b7748a7b - see https://plex.tv/downloads and when you get a crash please capture logs immediately after restart following the crash

Also please look for any dmp files within

C:\Users\tbtho\AppData\Local\Plex Media Server\Crash Reports\1.21.4.4079-1b7748a7b\PLEX MEDIA SERVER and zip and include with the logs zip if any there

Thanks

I can see a crash at Feb 05, 2021 17:11:22.137
There is a fix that has been produced and will be released soon

Yes that will be ok

Well i deactivate the option for sending crash report,

Feb 28, 2021 08:22:38.935 [12568] DEBUG - [JobRunner] Job running: “C:\Program Files (x86)\Plex\Plex Media Server\CrashUploader.exe” “–directory=N:\Plex Media Server\Crash Reports\1.22.0.4105-de660d402” --version=1.22.0.4105-de660d402 --platform=Windows “–platformVersion=10.0 (Build 19041)” --serverUuid=3370de3a9d5a4bf748c01b9231333dcbda5e42fb --userId=lirettekork@gmail.com --sentryUrl=https://sentry.io/api/1233455/minidump –

the crash was sent at 8:22

and the server is not shutdown manually… this night it still happen 2 times …

i will wait and send the crash report the next time.

It did not

Feb 28, 2021 08:22:39.008 [12896] ERROR - Too many crashdumps detected / retries disallowed!

On restart the upload attempt would be for any dumps found - not necessarily produced at 08:22

could you look in the crash reports folder for dmp files - also check the %TEMP% directory as they get moved there

Nothing for now and this attempt was made before the crash…

During the night and a few times during the prime time… plex restart without errors and it restart because i have a software who check pms and restart when it crash …

i will send you the crash report the next time…

i will send you the latest crash report happen feb 19 just before i activated send report automatically…

1.21.4.4054-bab510e86.zip (25.0 KB)

The dmp file is zero bytes long - this normally happens after crashes due to memory allocation failures - I would also need the debug logs that correspond to a crash dmp

Lets enable memory usage logging - see
Advanced, Hidden Server Settings | Plex Support

and add a setting named LogMemoryUse and value set to 1
It would be a REG_DWORD type

and lets wait for next crashes and get dmp files and logs and see if dmp files are zero length

With regards to your automated script to restart the server after a crash - I suspect this was what happened at Feb 28, 2021 08:23:51

How does the script establish that the server has crashed ? Do you send requests through curl ? There was no evidence of any requests reaching the server before the 08:23:51 shutdown and restart

No it just checking in the process and if the process doesn’t exist it try to start it

The software’s name is Restartoncrash

Ok i will do that and wait for the next crashes

Ok thanks - the 08:23 restart appears to be after a manual exit / shutdown.

Lets wait for next occurrence
(I am only working one day a week on Plex - so I will check next Tuesday)

Can I also delete these old files?

Crash report for the this night

1.22.0.4136-3ca7898f3.zip (59.8 KB)

Sorry for delay - i only work on Plex on Tuesdays.

Yes it should be ok

Thanks

and did you capture the corresponding server logs ?

The crash was at 09:51:31 GMT (PMS time 04:51:31 am) on 4th March
Would like to see corresponding logs for this crash - so first set of logs captured after 4th March 04:51 am

The crash appears to relate to an image file and Exif properties. Would need logs to identify the file and then see if we can reproduce the crash with it

Thanks sa2000 but forget about the crash, it was Intel® Rapid Storage Technology again, i don’t see windows update install this software and cause crash on PMS…

I have no crash since i remove this software…

@swiftserver - Could you tell me if these memory related crashes are still occurring. We expect this to have got resolved.
