Resolved on my own. I erased the new install and re-did the permissions for the plex share. Re-installed, took about 20 minutes. All migrated and happy. Choice!
Due to the moronic data breach of plex, I got logged out of everything yesterday, and now my Plex server won’t connect again (hate this crap) happens every time I have any changes with plex. I uninstalled Plex, and reinstalled and it won’t claim the server or show up. Help!
Same problem here. After updating and changing my password, the plex app doesn’t conect to the server…
Same problem here. Plex won’t connect to the server after I logged out and changed my password.
Hi - I have issues with Plex Media Server
I did following: changing Plex password, sign out and sign in of Media server, and then reclaiming the server.
I then update Synology DSM 7.1 to latest version 42661
Now I I cannot open Media server in Browser : Connection Resets
And more important: Remote access is OFF !!
Internet can not reach the server.
Media on Server is accessible through LAN, via Plex app, both on Mac mini, and on iPhone.
Please help !
Folks,
Anyone running the DSM 7 plex app has a built in tool right in the installer to deal with this.
In this FAQ, scroll down part way into the post (skip DSM 6) and use the DSM 7 steps
Hello,
I upgraded my Synology NAS to DSM 7, and I’m struggling with Plex reinstall.
I followed the procedure but the old Plex shared folder doesn’t seems to migrate to the new Shared folder. Thing is it’s located on a ext4 volume with old permissions set, so I cannot grant Full Control to PlexMediaServer user, only read/Write. Can that be the issue ?
Already uninstalled and deleted the PMS share several times. I was thinking about moving the old Plex to another Btrfs volume in order to set Full Control permissions
Thanks a lot for your help
Regards
I’ve had some issues previously with Plex on a Synology running DSM 7. I recently moved apartments and set up my NAS, but when I went to access my libraries I could not see any of my TV shows or Movies. I can’t even reach the dashboard or library settings in the account settings. I was told that if I move, I would be able to just unplug it from the old location and plug it in at the new location without issues. The only thing I could think of, is I am now using an unmanaged switch to plug the NAS into, since I have several internet devices that need to be plugged in around the NAS. Is there any recommendation on what I should be doing to be able to access my libraries again? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
FYI, I first tried to correct the permissions with the following commands I found in other threads But it wasn’t enough, the migration didn’t happen. My Plex installation comes from DSM 4.x I think
/usr/syno/bin/synoacltool -del /volume1/Plex
/usr/syno/bin/synoacltool -add /volume1/Plex group:administrators:allow:rwxpdDaARWc–:fd–
/usr/syno/bin/synoacltool -add /volume1/Plex user:admin:allow:rwxpdDaARWc:fd–
/usr/syno/bin/synoacltool -add /volume1/Plex user:PlexMediaServer:allow:rwxpdDaARWcCo:fd–
.
I created a new shared folder with new permission set and it worked. Full control is really mandatory, I first ckecked everything but the change permission for security purpose, but it wasn’t enough.
Thanks anyway for all the efforts you put into.
Please clarify for me?
This is a DSM 6 → DSM 7 installation?
YES, older shared folders (before DSM 6) need to be recreated before you can upgrade it. The old DSM folders did not contain ‘Full Control’ ACL support.
Hi all
Too much info here to wade through but im hoping to avoid complexity here. Yes im running pms under 6.2 now and wanting to upgrade to 7. Pardon the silly question here-- id like a fresh pms install on dsm7 and im fine with rebuilding everything as if it were a fresh install. In fact im restructuring my media into new folders anyway. How do i prepare my upgraded dsm 7 box so that pms installs as if it were a new dsm7 box? Id guess that means a complete pms uninstall is that the sticky wicket?
Few questions / confirmations ?
If both these are true, you’re ready to go
6.2 yes and iv haven’t done amything yet! Its a 918+ with intel brains. What’s magic about the plex share ? Ok i will uninstall the package
Migrating your DSM 6 server to DSM 7 takes time.
You have to get the permissions right for the Plex shared folder (We don’t have administrator privileges in DSM 7). There is a checkbox (“Apply to this folder, sub-folders and files”) which is part of the permission setting, you MUST NOT FORGET
DSM 6 data metadata gets ‘converted’ and moved to a new “PlexMediaServer” shared folder.
MOST IMPORTANT – your media shares will need to grant permission for “PlexMediaServer” to read them… Username ‘Plex’ got left behind in DSM 6 too.
All of this fuss is because Synology really tightened the security for apps – otherwise, the package would do it for you.
During the migration (Package Center will show “Installing” the whole time), Package Center might say “Operation failed”. IGNORE IT.
The Plex shared folder will contain a “Migration.log” file which you can monitor (In a separate tab opened to DSM of course) so you know when it’s really done / where it’s at in the process.
Here are the instructions.
Please read them carefully… There are a lot of steps. I provided lots of screenshots but ask if you don’t understand BEFORE you get started.
Typical migration time is 3 minutes for each 1000 items indexed (inclusive of movies, episodes, music, and photos)
Thank you. There must not be a clean way to do this as if i had a brand new dsm7 box? Ive installed a fresh pms in a dsm7 220+ before. I dont need to migrate meta data id rather re index everything
I’m sorry, i missed that. I got hung up on the DSM 6 part.
Since my brain is pretty much mush at this point,
please line item what you want to do for me?
Do you want to take the PlexMediaServer contents from the old machine to the new?
I just want to move to dsm7 and then install pms fresh as if it never existed before. I do want to re organize my content (existing on the server now) into different folders though. My library isnt large maybe 4TB.
As is
One 918+ server with pms on top of dsm 6.2
To be
Same 918+, content in new folders. Fresh pms on dsm7
Oh, so you don’t care about the DSM 6 installation / Plex share contrents ?
I care about the source content yes. It needs to stay there but re organized under one “media” folder instead of several shared folders at the root level
