TIDAL integration used to work... now does not work

Personally, it doesn’t take mine 30 seconds to fail, but it does still fail the same way. It is very possible we are all experiencing slightly different issues, but the bottom line is that, for those of us having problems, we are all observing more or less the same behavior.

Furthermore, in the absence of other portions of the application being exposed to the user, we have all exhausted any logical troubleshooting steps that we are able to take from the User side. We aren’t just screaming “It’s broken! Fix it!!”. We’ve done our due diligence to attempt to rule out basic problems.

Having same issue is there a fix for this

it sounds like it thinks for some at least only have the 30 seconds preview used by folks who do not have Tidal accounts. probably some weird caching somewhere. have some folks looking into that.

Probably not relevant, but FWIW, I also attempt all the local database optimization and cleanup steps to no avail. I do have a fairly large Plex library, but a small limited Tidal library. But that also didn’t seem to help.

Having some of the same issues outlined here running the most upto date version of the server on a qnap.

I have no integration with my library at all.

I Can browse and play music from tidal on
the iOS app
The Web App
Using the plex app on the qnap

On an andriod pine and 1 shield tv i get
TIDAL + Plex = music to your ears” message with a “Learn more” link

On another shield TV
I get a preview version of tidal with 30 sec clips that dont play.

@BigWheel My experience is the same as described by the OP. Any device that I go to Tidal on gives me the “TIDAL + Plex = music to your ears!” welcome screen except for the system that Plex server is installed on. On that system it works as expected. On the systems that it is not working on it fails immediately, not delayed 30 seconds like some are experiencing.

I have tested on Apple TV, Android, Plex Web, and Plex thick client on Mac OS.
Plex server is running on a dedicated Windows Server 2016 server.

I have tried unlinking and relinking, rebooting, and disassociating my account with google to just use my Plex login.

Hi, I have also tried the steps below to resolve the issue.

1.) Unlinking Tidal Account from my Plex Account
2.) Logged into Tidal website and changed password
3.) Confirmed PW change on Tidal Website
4.) Re-linked Tidal Account to Plex Account with updated password.

For me Tidal works on the web app and on the windows app, but not on the android app or on my lg tv plex app. And by not working I mean that plex on these devices act as if I don’t have a Tidal subscription, they just let me play previews of the songs.

Hi, I’m new to Plex, thought I try to use it as an alternative client for tidal on my android TV as the original APK for the platform is miles behind android for phones. At start, the recommended tab showed the huge ‘try it out’ banner, my tidal tab showed nothing, even after several minutes, could play only first 30 seconds of a track if used the search option. The play screen showed each track as 30sec long and had the ‘preview’ note on top. Unlinking, clearing cash, resetting, nothing changed. Then went to advanced settings and set ‘allow insecure connections’ to ‘Always’ and:

  • playlist suddenly showed my playlists from tidal
  • the play screen showed actual track length and stopped showing the ‘preview’ note
  • the recommended tab stopped showing the banner
    Unfortunately:
  • my tidal still loads nothing
  • only the first 30secs are being played despite correct track length is shown.
I have premium tidal account and free Plex. Tried Plex client only on android TV.

The Plex APK on android TV seems as more advanced than original tidal APK, but unfortunately doesn’t work in all aspects…

I hope it changes for better

This is interesting… for many security reasons, I wouldn’t leave the server set to always allow insecure connections, but this is definitely new troubleshooting information. I wonder if there are expired certs in use somewhere between Tidal and Plex that just isn’t being logged? Still, you’d think if that were the case, it would be broken for everyone? Thanks for sharing this information! Maybe if someone from Plex comes back into this thread, it’ll mean more to them.

Just encountered the 30 second Tidal bug on one of my Shields. Every other client using my server (wife’s iPhone, my Android Phone, Windows 10 apps, Plex Web and a Second Nvidia Shield) would play Tidal songs full length just fine.

On a whim I deleted the affected Shield from the list of Authorized Devices in the PMS and then re-linked it. Tidal works just fine on it now.

Note: Had to restart my Shield before being prompted to sign-in again and re-link Plex on the it, after it was deleted from PMS.

This is definitely a solution I haven’t seen before. Sadly, it didn’t resolve my Tidal issue on my devices. But thanks for sharing and suggesting it! Maybe this will work for some others on this thread?

It looks like authorization or caching problem. In my house we have two Tidal and two Plex account under one Plex home. Suddenly I see the other tidal account playlist and play history in my tidal, my Plex account. But when I try to play any song I only gets 30 seconds.
Same experience with the other tidal account. When logged into that Plex, that tidal account, it sees it’s own playlist and history. When trying to play anything it plays for 30 seconds.

The only known way to workaround it is remove one of the Plex and tidal account so that my Nvidia shield only have exactly one tidal account in a Plex home. Even doing this only partially fix it, any 30 seconds song played before will stay be plates as 30 seconds. Any new song that has never been played will play as full song. Bad caching?

This is so unacceptable… I get it that Plex is free, but tidal Plex integration is commercial service that produce profit, is it really irrational for us to expect better from Plex?

Had exactly the same problems, but solved by completely removing and reinstalling apps on every platform. I do believe that is something to do with apps local cache, so it should be fixed by Plex devs (yet, it’s my assumption).

The biggest problem was, I had to re-download my local sever, re-add sources, re-get meta-data, etc. That was annoying, but so far, so good.

Whoa!
Just worked on my Sony android TV. Tracks play beyond the 30 secs limit now!
I did:

  • Logged on web to Plex account
  • Went to settings and disconnected Sony device
  • Restarted tv
  • Launched Plex client on TV
  • Asked me to sign in and entered code on the link web page
  • This landed me on home screen of Plex, tidal wasn’t showing up, but had information I can reset all customisation (earlier I removed all but tidal and home from pinned menu).
  • I reset customisation on Sony Plex

Now:

  • Tracks play all right
  • Playlists are ok (have only one for testing)
  • Recommendations are ok
  • ‘my tidal’ screen is trying to load my library for over 10 minutes with no luck so far - have only the spinning wheel… I have a v. large library imported to tidal from Google play music last week which might be too much for Plex to process
note: customisation reset in Plex APK left my earlier setting to allow all insecure connections. I changed it back to never and still work as described above.

Thank you @bradbart948 for your Idea! It might help me to take the decision to ditch Google play music for tidal plus Plex

“Every now and then even a blind squirrel finds a nut.”

Since I’ve been using Plex I’ve had to delete an authorized device or two to resolve playback issues. I have no idea what’s going awry, but sometimes re-adding a device with a “clean slate” in PMS gets things working again.

Perhaps someone from the Plex Team can offer some insight.

Thanks for the info @bradbart948. I tried this (following detailed instructions by @Kovi), but I still get the same issue with “My Tidal” showing an “unexpected error”.

It was worth a try

Thanks! This worked for me on Apple TV, MacOS, Chrome, and Android. Tidal appears to be working fully on these devices now.

I may have had a breakthrough on my end. I’ve been unable to get past the 30-Day screen on my Pixel 2 XL, despite it eventually working fine on several of my other devices. Today, i went to update my payment method for Tidal on Tidal’s website (it told me i needed to do it via Plex now), and i noticed on the connected devices screen that all devices except for my Pixel 2 XL were grayed out. I presume that’s because they’re connected via Plex, and Tidal is clearly handing the reigns over to Plex when it comes to account control. On a whim, i decided to remove the one device that i can manage from Tidal’s site, my Pixel 2 XL. After that, i opened Plex and the 30-Day screen was gone! Hopefully that means all my devices will work with Tidal on Plex now!

@rfehr613 Where in Tidal’s portal were you seeing connected devices? Thanks!

It’s on the website, not the app/software. I’ll have to check specifically where i saw it in the settings when i get to work.
