TV Show Metadata not working yet Show is in TheTBDB

Server Version#: 1.16.3.1402
Player Version#: N/A
Synology DS1019+ is the Plex Server

I apologize if this is not the correct forum for this. If it is not, please direct me to the right place for help.

I have been online trying to figure out this problem for hours.

Basics:

*All files are in .MP4 format ripped by WonderFox DVD Ripper.
*TV Show is Kung Fu, Seasons 1, 2 and 3.

  • I am following directions given here for naming convention and directory structure.
  • Kung Fu shows in in TheTVDB with all 3 seasons. (https://www.thetvdb.com/series/kung-fu)
  • Season 1 all episodes show up perfectly in Plex.
  • Season 2, episodes 01-21 show up fine in Plex. Episodes 22 & 23 do not show up.
  • Season 3, all episodes do NOT show up and Plex does not recognize Season 3.

What am I doing wrong here?

Any thoughts are appreciated.

With “here” you mean what exactly?
This is the official guide: https://support.plex.tv/articles/naming-and-organizing-your-tv-show-files/

How are the problematic files named?
Are you using a proper folder structure, as required above?

Try this:
preparation:
Go to

  • Settings - Server - Agents - Shows - TheTVDB

In there, grab the line ‘Local Media Assets’ with your mouse and drag it downwards, so it ends up being at the bottom of the stack of active agents.
Repeat the same under

  • Settings - Server - Agents - Shows - TheMovieDatabase
  • Settings - Server - Agents - Movies - Plex Movie
  • Settings - Server - Agents - Movies - TheMovieDatabase

Then perform the Plex Dance with the whole show.

Thank you so much for your reply. I am sure you get the same questions over and over and over. I am new to this and it is a new “language” to me, so I appreciate your patience.

I did follow the naming conventions and directory structures from the Plex Server Forum. So that was helpful.

With regard to your recommendation below, after dragging the “Local Media Assets (TV)” down to the bottom, do I also select each agent? If not, which agents do I select, since I will be repeating this process as you suggest above before I do the Plex Dance?

Thanks so much!

If you have all these lines ‘unchecked’, their order doesn’t matter anymore.

However, if you want Plex to provide you automatically with the theme song of the tv show, you want to enable the ‘Plex Theme Music’ agent.
(This theme song will play whenever you navigate into this tv show. Needs to be explicitly enabled in your plex client’s preferences)

If you want Plex to use external subtitles or the poster art you may have added into the folders with the video files, then you need to activate ‘Local Media Assets’ again. https://support.plex.tv/articles/200220717-local-media-assets-tv-shows/

If you want Plex to go out and download additional artwork for you to select from, activate Fanart.tv (particularly helpful if your library language is not English)

If you want Plex to fetch additional metadata from TheMovieDatebase, in cases where TheTVDB doesn’t have them, enable TheMovieDatabase.

Thank you for your help. I am slowly learning how Plex reacts to certain things around Metadata, so this was a good lesson for me. I appreciate your patience!
