I added a recent episode of ‘Super Sentai’ to my server and the metadata refreshed to just be about the 10th season (Choujuu Sentai Liveman). When trying to Fix Match the show no longer comes up, with the tvdb id (tvdb-73694) redirecting to this 10th season. Every individual season now seems to come up as its own show.
Double check the seasons you have according to the TVDB TVDB: Super Sentai
Beyond that make sure you’re using the TVDB show order in Plex Advanced settings for the show
TVDB lists Choujuu Sentai Liveman as season 12 but I don’t think that’s your problem
If you correct your show exactly how the TVDB has it and you’re still having problems, this might be a problem with conflicting information between the TVDB and TMDB
TMDB doesn’t even seem to list the show “Super Sentai” at all. They have “Choujuu Sentai Liveman” listed as it’s own show, and I suspect all the rest of the seasons you have
The new Plex agent seems to prefer what the TMDB has listed
I’m not sure how this can be corrected unless the TMDB gets a request to combine all those back into one show “Super Sentai”
OK, so the questions I have are why is it preferring what TMDB has when we’ve given it a TVDB series number to match to? I’ve also tried moving TMDB to the very bottom of the agents list for TV shows and it still doesn’t match. So again, why is preferring TMDB so strongly over the TVDB suddenly when absolutely nothing changed on my end?
If it says the same thing as mine you upgraded to the new agents and the agent page you’re talking about doesn’t do anything anymore
Those TVDB vs. TMDB id numbers don’t have anything to do with where the metadata is pulled from. That is only to help it pull the right show and in most cases that’s going to be the same exact show regardless of it being a TVDB or TMDB number.
The problem comes in when these two sources differ drastically like they do in this case
A different show order can be changed. But when one source has induvial shows compared to the other source having one show with multiple seasons it’s a problem
I have a different show right now that’s doing the exact same thing but in the opposite order where it seems to prefer the TVDB info
And to provide more info, the tvdb has the Kamen Rider and Metal Hero series collected into a metaseries. They are not broken like the Super Sentai one is.
I suddenly started having this problem as well after (making the mistake of) refreshing metadata for the library this show is in. Extra annoying after I went to the problem of setting custom season posters too, which would have been fine through a refresh assuming the match had persisted.
The way TMDB handles this series is, frankly, incorrect and TVDB should be preferred. It’s just weird, as TMDB seems to get Kamen Rider right. Even more weirdly, TMDB also seems to get Ultraman wrong in the same way as Super Sentai, but for now Plex still seems to be matching it (correctly) with TVDB. I hope this isn’t something that is just currently propagating through Plex’s metadata and is gonna break half my toku stuff in the coming days.
Not really sure what to do in the meantime, short of manually adding metadata for hundreds of episodes, as there doesn’t seem to be a way to force Plex to pull the correct data right now.
