TVDB - No matches were found using this agent

Server Version#: 4.34.3
I’ve had a problem adding several files lately, and naming shouldn’t have been a problem.
Full logs included.

No metadata was picked up by the TVDB agent for three different shows.
When I tried to match manually I got the No matches were found using this agent response.

Any ideas?

Plex Media Server Logs_2020-08-02_19-49-01.zip (5.8 MB)

I’m having this exact same issue. Started about a week or so ago. ANY new media I add, move or otherwise, will not refresh metadata. When I try to manually match it, it finds no matches. This is true for both TVDB and the new Plex movie agent.

Here I and other users had similar problems: Metadata is only recognized irregularly or after several manual attempts

Even if I got results during manual matching, they were not applied, or the series were not tagged. The log shows error messages.

I cannot comment on the other 2 cases.
In your case, naming definitely is an issue…

Your files are apparently badly organized:

D:
  SERIES
    Star Trek Discovery S02
    Cowboy Bebop S01 1080p BluRay DD 5.1 x265 - E.N.D

Try naming them in accordance with the Plex naming schema…

D:
  SERIES
    Star Trek Discovery
      Season 02
        Star Trek Discovery - s02e01.ext
        Star Trek Discovery - s02e02.ext
        ...

    Cowboy Bebop (2020)
      Season 01
        Cowboy Bebop (2020) - s01e01.ext
        Cowboy Bebop (2020) - s01e02.ext
        ...

TheTVDb.com has no matches for “Cowboy Bebop S01”.
If you only use “Cowboy Bebop” that’ll give you the 1998 version instead.

Edit:
Your logs also show a lot of episodes you simply named {episode number} - {episode name}. Plex will actively ignore those files!

That does not solve it.
Anyway, I should get at least some matches.
I have been using Plex for a long time, and this is not usual behavior.

  1. Fix the file names and structures:

  1. Perform the LMA Hack - since I don’t know what container you’re using:
  1. Then - if necessary - Plex Dance the entire show:
  1. Illustrating perfectly that it’s easier to do it right the first time:

OK.
I have been using Plex for years, and this has never happened.
I know about naming schemes.
I would either have to reorganize my entire library, Which would be a massive undertaking, or find a different solution.
Case in point: The Movie DB found Babylon 5 without any issues.
Something has changed in the last couple of months.

not necessarily… JuiceWSA’s response included a link to an app that can handle renaming/organizing your files.
Primary focus should be on new stuff anyway… you could fix the remaining names over time if you feel it’s too much for one go.

The naming conventions haven’t changed… so the only change I see is you might have gotten lucky with your previous approach.
Not sure if TheTVDb API got more strict. If I search e.g. for “Cowboy Bebop S02” I get no matches on their homepage… dropping the S02 is a perfect match.

So your argument is it worked before it should still work, interesting analysis if the world stands still.

As Juice has indicated file bot is a solution, if you take his esteemed advice, is your call. Good luck elsewhere achieving anything close to Plex’s current abilities.

Of course that it should still work if it worked.
It’s called backwards compatibility and has been a feature of software for quite some time.
Also, I don’t quite get the point in removing this sort of functionality.
I’ll try to rename these couple of shows, just in case, but I don’t expect that to solve the problem.

But it was never intended to work but did, that’s compatibility by chance.

You will need to practice the Plex Dance for it work post your correction.

Right. I knew the naming is not the problem, but just in case, I did the whole thing:

  1. Proper naming for the last three shows and/or seasons added via filebot (licence purchased)
  2. Plex dance
  3. Nothing. I still get the same message.
Here is the log, just in case.

well… it seems naming was only one of your problems.
According to your logs, the Plex Media Scanner fails to connect to to the local Plex Media Server. What’s odd is that it fails to establish the connections from the scanner while other connections to the same server/port seem to succeed

I cannot remember seeing that issue before… need to ask a bit around.

Filebot didn’t name this one - guaranteed:

Star.Trek.Discovery.S02E06.720p.WEBRip.x264-TBS.mkv

Good Luck

That file is no longer present in the library.

I’m not sure that it’s related, but your TVDB agent logging shows the following errors for connection attempts to Plex’s metadata servers (https://tvdb2.plex.tv):

2020-08-04 12:16:09,032 (57a0) : INFO (logkit:16) - SSLError(218640442, u'nested asn1 error (_ssl.c:2938)')
2020-08-04 12:16:09,089 (57a0) : INFO (logkit:16) - JWT Error: (nested asn1 error (_ssl.c:2938)) -
2020-08-04 12:16:11,591 (5fc0) : INFO (logkit:16) - SSLError(218640442, u'nested asn1 error (_ssl.c:2938)')
2020-08-04 12:16:11,640 (5fc0) : INFO (logkit:16) - JWT Error: (nested asn1 error (_ssl.c:2938)) -

Requests for metadata from the server are therefore failing. I don’t see any such SSL errors on my Windows test server, so I’m fairly certain those errors are not expected.

Do you have anything out of the ordinary in your network path to the Internet? Do you access through a VPN or a proxy, or something else which may be messing with the certificate? As far as I can tell, that ASN.1 error is caused by a problem with the SSL library parsing the certificate.

Nothing that I know off that would produce this result.
As an added measure I checked the firewall setting, as well as turned off the adblocker on the router.
Nothing changed.
Then I tried plugging directly into the gateway, with a public IP address. Still nothing.

6 posts were split to a new topic: Issues with adding files to library and matching

If it’s permissions, how come the moviedb agent works??

  1. I doubt this is actually the same issue… so I’ll probably move the side-track discussion in a separate track
  2. If your permissions aren’t set correctly, Plex would not see the files in the first place – however this can well be working for one folder/file but not for another.
