Watchlist update and Credits

I am interested about that as well. In fact, I first got all hyped about that when I posted about it in the forums here earlier, at this post:

I asked a few questions about the feature, hoping to elicit more information, and I got a bit more. In fact, the very first reply was a Plex Employee who said:

Further down, I made an assumption that based on the way Plex does intro skip: Plex looks for a specific song or audio cue at the start of files, and assumes that is the intro and marks it as one. Since MOVIES don’t have common endings (no other movies to compare end credit music to, and certainly no “intro credits skip”), I assumed there would not be any end-credit skip. But amazingly, the same Plex Employee came in and blew my mind with a correction:

I’m glad we’re finally starting to see some more iteration on these features. Though I will say I’m disappointed to see Watchlist hauled out of Home, seemingly only to add another poor auto-curated screen. The latter of which just seems to be another way to shoehorn the free streaming stuff onto another screen.

IMO, Watchlist should’ve moved to the Discover pivot and most of the “friends” and profile pivots moved from Discover to Home. We don’t need more sidebar options just because a few users get cranky and want to hide everything new.

On a more positive note the new Cast feature is a long awaited improvement on the basic features we’ve had for a while. I’m happily impressed this not only brings parity to clicking on cast photos of library content and “Discover” content… but it’s done in a way that doesn’t push Plex’s streaming efforts.

My content appears first, if I choose to want to look for an actors movies I don’t have in my library I can do that further down or explicitly click on filmography. And it’s a screen I don’t need to give a long-winded tutorial to my parents for them to understand. It’s straightforward and not user-hostile. More of this.

As it stands, the only thing I’d like to see change on this screen is separate rows for Movies and Shows in Media Libraries (one for movies, one for TV).

I do need to point out that while the announcement seems to indicate this also includes crew members, it appears to me this is still a sorely missing feature. It’s just cast members. No directors, writers, cinematographers… we’ve been asking for this for years. If I’m missing something, please correct me.

I hope we see Discover become more fleshed out on TV/STB apps next because the longer Discover features like sharing, ratings, etc. are missing from TV/STB apps the more likely they’re gonna be forgotten about.

When playing an item from Watchlist (or Discover), it would be nice if the item played immediately instead of linking to the library item where you have to select it again.

great, was asking this feture for years!

Any response from the development team on this ? I’m hoping this is just a bug / oversight in the new design with plex being eager to roll it out to users.

However, with this new feature I now consider [Implemented] Fully Disable Discover & search results from Streaming Services (More Ways To Watch) no longer implemented. Cloud based search results have been reintroduced, some may say via stealth !

I see on the product support list that Plex on Linux appears to only require 1.56.1. I am on 1.56.2 but do not see any of the people functions either during a search, or from credits. I was able to kinda see the new features from the web interface, but it only seems to work from the search. If I select an actor from the details page, it still only provides the listing from my movies or tv shows. My server is 1.29.2.6364 on Linux. Am I missing something, or am I experiencing an issue?

Okay, saw the recommendation to logout/in above and tried that. Watchlist is now showing on the sidebar and search does provide a “People” section, but the selection from the details page still does not work.

Does the Home Admin account fall under the “managed account” moniker?

No, the admin account would have full access to everything.

it is the admin account I am trying to view credit information from details which is not working.

Have you gone through this list fully?

Below is a list of reasons it would go to a filtered grid:

Everything looks good except the adult content. It is strictly me and the wife in my household, why should I have to disable adult content, and more importantly, what constitutes adult content. I left this checked as I didn’t want to possibly ignore unrated or somehow perceived adult titles.

I am a big fan of many of these changes it makes browsing media more fun and makes finding other stuff to watch or watchlist easier than ever. My only point of feedback so far is on mobile this feature doesn’t work as well. When clicking a cast member on mobile unlike the web version you don’t have a Media Libraries hub. So if I have a lot of movies in my library with a particular cast member I have to browse them horizontally instead of verticality which makes browsing my list of their movies more difficult.

Porn. Unless you have this type of content in the library there is no need to have this enabled and it will disable the full functionality of this feature.

I don’t have any porn, but how do you discern “porn”? An “X” rating, genre as specified in IMDB, what?

Also, why should allowing porn disable a feature? Do you think it is right for plex to “punish” people that enjoy that kind of thing? Why is that any of plex’s concern?

The Allow Adult Content should only impact fetching and matching metadata for Adult titles or in some rare cases where a title cannot be matched without this setting. Once fetched this setting does not serve much purpose. Disabling it won’t change any of the titles you have matched unless you choose to Unmatch/Match or Fix Match afterwards.

This is a cautionary step to make sure we don’t expose or show any adult content unintentionally.

Exactly! Are we being overly cautious around adult content? Yes! I think for good reason. This is a tricky situation made all the more difficult with People who crossover from the Adult to non Adult industry and vice versa. We are working on better ways to identify these cases along with better parental and account controls to be make sure everyone has the access to content that they care about.

If there are titles that you find that cannot be matched without this setting then that is definitely something that we want to know about.

I’ll be direct, what is the ask is here? To disable Credit pages all together? Or something(s) else?

We were very cautious to respect these opt-out settings but still provide a content rich feature. When everything is disabled these Credit pages only serve metadata based on the person you have searched for or selected to view.

Thanks, direct is good, always appreciated.

This feature is called Discover Credits & People Search. I have discover, new ways to search etc… all disabled within my account settings. I expect when I do a search to only see results from my server and not get anything which can take me to the plex cloud, its content or any other information beyond my server.

This new search takes the user out of my plex personal libraries to links for content in your cloud. I control what is on my server and don’t want anything else displayed so I do not want this.

For context: The plex account we use is a shared family account. Its been used this way for all my years with plex. We have an autistic family member who loves clicking around the UI, searching and browser the movies and TV shows on our server. This new implementation has the potential to take them to content I don’t want them to see (Known For and Filmography).

So, what I expect is simple, only give me content which is relevant to my server. This is why I purchased plex.

BTW… If needed spin this out of this topic into a dedicated one as I do not want to derail or downplay the rollout of this feature for those who want it. But I’m sure I’m not alone in my desire to keep the scope of content to my server, as it always has been.

Additional Update:

Thanks to another thread, I now realise its beyond just the search bar. I had Include adult content enabled on my libraries and once disabled this new UI is all over the place when clicking on cast.

For me and my use case what would be prefect would be a way to remove the Known For and Filmography sections from the cast pages as that is where my concern is.

Selecting anything in those sections goes off my servers content and out to the plex cloud. That is extremely BAD IMO !
