I have PMS server and web client running on Win10 with USB TV tuner. I am able to install DVR OK, run channel scans and install TV Guide. But I cannot play any channels as all give error “Playback error Unable to tune channel”.
On the same configuration I can run MediaPortal 2 and view all channels OK.
I’m running the same setup and having the same problems. Tuner picks up 70+ channels, none of them play through plex but through the WinTV software with the tuner, every channel it found plays fine. Plex also locks up both tuners with failed streams, no way to quit them without killing PMS and restarting.
Having the exact same issue with Windows 10 Server, Latest version of Plex Media Server and the Hauppauge WinTV-dualHD TV Tuner.
All channels work fine in WinTV but no channels can be tuned inside of Plex. Removed the device and rescanned all channels fine but still cannot tune into them.
I think this may be an issue with the most recent Plex server update.
I’ve just rolled back to 1.13.5.5332 and DVR and Live TV are now working, definitely an issue with the latest PMS upgrade. Found the older versions here, just uninstall with add/remove programs and reinstall whichever version you’ve downloaded, I had the fear that my libraries would be gone but they were all there once reinstalled. You’re old version will mention there’s an upgrade available but you can click skip this version and continue as normal.
EDIT here’s a weird thing, I’ve just rescanned and Plex has found over 500 channels, which is strange as in the UK I believe we only have 85 TV channels, and nowhere near 400 radio stations.
I just rolled back to 1.13.5.5332 and deleted/reinstalled DVR/Live TV. Unable to tune channel symptoms remain. I can tune the channels but not play them.
Thank you for the logs. This appears to be the same issue as seen on these forum threads which I have now referred to the development team. The problem appears to be limited to usb tuners
I noticed your were also having server crashes. The appear to be the crashes caused by a bug in a Plex for iOS beta / Plex for Apple TV beta releases. This has been corrected which hopefully you now have
With regards to the playback / recording errors for PCIe and USB tuners on 1.13.8.5395, the development team are unable to reproduce the error - so we will need volunteer(s) for extra diagnostics of the error when running 1.13.8.5395
What I am after is additional transcoder logging and in addition to logs, wireshark capture of the attempt to stream using Plex (wireshark to be zipped and sent to me by Private Message) and also curl capture of the stream.
Thank you very much - Suggest we wait. At the moment i have 2 volunteered already and one stream capture file already provided. So lets hold tight until the diagnostics are all available from the 2 users and looked into by the development team. I will let you know if we need any more
The unable to tune errors due to the 5 second timeout seen mostly on PCIe and USB tuners (and also on networked tuners to an extent) has now been addressed in release 1.13.9.5456 which extended the timeout to 15 seconds
Many thanks for investigating this error. Could you please request the dev team increase the timeout duration still further (30+ seconds) as I am still getting the timeout error on a livestream, whereas in earlier versions of plex (1.13.5 and prior) this worked fine.
I am using the Hauppauge Dual TV (USB) tuner, and an older WHS 2011 home-server setup (probably the reason for the latency). I’m running PMS version 1.14. I have checked the drivers and function of the tuner (as described above) and it works in WinTV correctly. My setup was working well at version 1.13.5…

I have raised this as a request - but whilst there is only evidence of the need to increase the timeout from one user only with some ancient hardware, I do not see that it will get to the top of the priority list
Logs shows 38 seconds In one example -

These are in excess of the original 30 second timeout
