Aaaaaaand yet another week goes by, and no update to fix this. :(
This just started for me today. Only thing new was I installed the Preview Dash update yesterday.
Aaaaaaand yet another week goes by, and no update to fix this. :(
Been a month since the stickied 'sorry for the lack of updates' post at the top, with no actual updates since
I have a connect and the issue happens for me too. Stock dashboard as well.
Plex was all fine for me up until notification of 1502 preview update 14/01/15
To those with the issue it would be helpful to know:
- Do you have kinect? no
- Are you stock dashboard or preview program? stock
As it's not effecting everyone, it would be helpful in letting folks know which people may be effected after the update.
NO kinect
Stockdash
Kinect, just realized i have the issue as well while the kid was watching tom and jerry.
- no kinect
- stock dashboard
lots of dimming problems :(
Anyone one gotten an update?
I've had this issue for a while, been away for 3 weeks.
this NEEDS an update asap, fingers crossed that it comes soon !
I have a similar problem. I watched a movie yesterday, full movie no dimming. Later that night we watched another movie and every few minutes (3 minutes sounds correct) the TV would dim. After little more time the screen would go black.
This morning, I have been watching a movie for about 20 minutes and the screen has not dimmed yet.
I have the xbox set to instant-on. Between each of these instances, I used the voice command "xbox turn off", but I know this does not do a cold reboot.
Note: I have a kinect, although it seems that this issue is affecting kinect and non-kinect users alike.
This is a plex-pass preview app, so I am sure there are some bugs. I look forward to the future releases.
Bugs I currently still have:
- Sometimes when I start a movie from the beginning Plex skips to a point near the end (usually credits are rolling)
- When I click on an TV show or movie and press back it can't display the list of shows or movies correctly, some covers are missing etc
- When I pause for a while and try to resume playback fails after a few seconds, you have options displayed to 'Go home' or 'Retry'.
- The dimming issue, which only happens sometimes (I have Kinect connected with preview dash)
Adding another to the list …
I encountered the dimming bug for the first time last night. Never seen it before, and I use Plex on the Xbox One almost every day.
Xbox One with Kinect, on the latest ‘standard’ dashboard version. Using the standard controller.
Watching a movie in MP4 format. I paused to switch on subtitles from an SRT file. I was happily surprised to see that the SRT subs worked (they didn’t used to – is that an app update?) but after switching on the subs, I started to see the screen dimming issue, exactly as everyone else has described. Now the issue seems permanent.
So: No issue at all, until I paused an MP4 movie and switched on SRT subtitles. Now I have the issue.
Hope that helps.
Thanks for all the comments guys.
There's definitely a reproducible issue if you pause playback and then change subtitles or other settings. If you don't pause before you make the change then the app will work fine.
However, others have reported they get dimming without any of those steps so the next update will remove the 'feature' for now.
The updated version should come through (very) soon. I realise it's been a long wait, so thanks again for all the helpful steps and information.
Hopefully we also get some new features with the update then :-)
Hey guys. Sorry for the lack of updates - we're working hard with MS to release a fixed version of this as soon as we can. We've gone for removing the feature for now, since we can't reproduce the issue with the steps many of you have.
Thanks again for the helpful steps and details. Will let you know when we know more.
How about removing this unnecessary dimming feature while we wait for a fix! Trying to watch movies is supposed to be relaxing, but here I am having to touch my Xbox controller every two minutes…
This is exactly what they are doing ...
Dom C,
Aside from removing the buggy screen dimming feature, will there be any new features or fixes in the upcoming "update" that we've been waiting for?
Thanks,
EnochLight

Not sure if this adds anything new, but I did not have this problem when I had a wired connection. As soon as I switched to wireless to resolve the "Server is not Available Issue. Retry or Home" problem I started to experience this dimming issues.

I wouldn't call it unnecessary, for many of us it's an important feature in order to prevent image retention.
It's taking a while for the updates to come through so it's already kind of annoying that I'll be at least a few weeks without it if it's removed altogether :/ Just hope it gets added back in.
