I have had a slightly different dimming issue (though I think a few have mentioned it here also). If I leave the app open, it dims to black after a couple minutes (Which I am fine with and doing any activity brings it back)....however, I have had a few times where I am watching a movie and the screen suddenly goes black. The sound continues with no video. I issue an xbox go back voice command, then choose play and resume and it works fine. I am not sure why the video goes black in the middle of movie, but it is very intermittent. Some days we can watch several movies and never have it happen, others it happens a couple times.
Never had this issue, had to get a new PC to host my Media Server after my old one packed in, happens all the time now - every five minutes, and occasionally just going black with no way to get it to wake up.
Gone back to PHT. Really need to get this fixed, been going on far, far too long! App is pretty much unusable.
Kinnect, stock dashboard. Have the dimming problem. Mine seems to be related to the kinnect, sometimes it leaves a “go back” option on my screen even when the kinnect is supposed to have stopped listening. So far if I go back to the home screen of the xbox, quit the Plex app and reload it, that seems to fix the issue temporarily. I’ve tried hard restarting the xbox but it still seems to be coming back every time I use the app.
I think it's high time Plex change their MO of not "publishing plans or releases."
As others have said, there are more problems besides the dimming issue, and not knowing when, or even IF, the other problems will be taken care of makes me (and no doubt many others) seriously wonder about continuing using Plex.
Let's say the dimming issue is resolved in the next three weeks; we can probably expect a "settings" option to be offered in another 3 months, then better subtitle support three months after.
Think I'm being pessimistic? Look at their 3-4 week silence concerning something that makes their App useless! Why would they be in more of rush to fix less severe (in their eyes) problems?

Hey,
I'm sorry that you are so frustrated with the current state of things. We work extremely hard to try and build the best applications for our users, as well as publish any important fixes as soon as we possibly can. At the end of the day, we can only do what we can within the marketplace/device ecosystem. Some systems allow us to almost push out changes immediately, whereas some require extensive manual testing and approval before they allowed to be made available to users. With that in mind, and with a lot of organisations "closing" down over the Christmas / New Year period, i'm sure you'd understand that during this difficult time, further delays can be caused. I can re-assure you that Plex has, and always will, do the most they can for their users. I know this has left some users frustrated, and we will continue to try and improve so that it doesn't happen again.
So the screensaver is being completely removed in the next update? Hopefully not it would be nice to have a real fix or some user control over whether or not it’s enabled instead (options menu).

Thanks for posting, although it doesn't really say anything :-)
I can understand you not wanting to pre-announce new features and release dates etc, but not why you can't keep us updated on this process a little better? It's a fix to a broken release?
Have you failed certification? Are you having to do something else to get it released? Is it just stuck in a Microsoft queue somewhere? Are they keeping you updated?
We all appreciate a well tested release I imagine as it means less frustration in the end - what went wrong with testing this version though as if the testing process is so thorough how did it get released with such a show stopping bug?
Any chance of you negotiating a beta program with Microsoft for Plexpass members? Believe they do that kind of thing, obviously with big game releases but fairly sure TrueAchievements app was in beta for a while too?
Going to be unworkable if every new bug takes this long to fix?
Ahh that's what it is! Well I always just went to the Dashboard > Menu > Quit, and restarted the app and it resolves...didn't know this was causing so much rage here.
I have had the dimming problem at times. What i have found that clears it up for the period that i am using plex is to go up to the right corner of the screen and select my server again. This make the screen bright again and it never dim during the time i am using it.
This only ever happens for me when I pause playback and enter the subtitles/playback settings (the ... menu). If the screen dims or goes to black I can bring it back by pressing left or right on my Harmony remote (presumably a controller would work too) or I can stop playback and start it again and the issue goes away.
Hopefully this works for some of you rather than needing to restart the app or your server.
For what its worth, here's a consistent, reproducible way to cause dimming on my Xbox One with Kinect. 1. Launch Plex (this can be a fresh start or an app switch) 2. Select a title you haven't watched yet (next TV episode for instance) 3. Start watching the show. 4. Pause the show 5. Move to the ... 6. Change from Stereo Sound to 5.1 Sound and exit 7. Show automatically unpauses itself and begins playing with 5.1 audio. 8. About 3 minutes later the dimming begins.
To fix the dimming for this episode, 1. Stop the playback 2. Exit Plex 3. Use the menu button to QUIT Plex. 4. Launch Plex 5. Play same episode (5.1 is remembered) 6. No more dimming (unless I pause and change sound again).
It works that way every time for me. Feel free to reach out to me if you need additional information.
I have the same issue, but I'm changing subtitles from "none" to "Norwegian" instead of change audio.
I think it might be because I have a game playing in the background that I haven't fully exited (and xbox thinks I have walked off without the controller hence the screensaver kicking in?)
I have the same problem (like i said in another topic) but it only happens when i access the settings (when i watch a movie or a serie). When i click pause and change the subs or audio: then the dimming starts (and i have to use to controller every few minutes to get the normal screen back). When i watch a movie or serie and i don't access the subs/audio settings i can watch it without having problems. I think this started with my last Xbox update, but i'm not sure about that.
I'm still a happy Plex usser :) but just to be safe and watch a movie without pulling the controller every few minutes i switched back to the chromecast for now. I'm glad that there will be a fix for this (even if it takes a while).
I've never had this issue until yesterday.
It started doing it after I stopped a movie at looked at (didn't change) the settings (was checking if 5.1 was selected)
Now it dims every 5 mins, unless I quit and restart plex.
Never had an issue with dimming and always have my Kinect plugged in. Suddenly started happening with the new preview dashboard.
I am getting the same problem and for this reason I believe, until today I'd never suffered from 'dimming' nothing that I was worried about anyway should it of been happening without be knowing.
The problem I am having now is plex dimming before going black, if I toggle the left or right stick on the controller the picture begins again the in movie voice remains constant though.
Would quitting (exiting) the app and restarting it solve the problem? I have never closed the app that and Metro Redux continue to run even when the console is off but then again I have never had a problem.
