I think I had the same issue of it reappearing.
Did the hard reset then watched something for 7 mins to check all was good and it was.
Went off played some games etc then went to watch something in the evening and the problem had returned.
Hi folks,
Sorry that this is causing trouble for you. We implemented a custom dim because we had reports of the system screensaver not always kicking in - and we were worried about screen burn.
Obviously this shouldn't happen during video playback. If you can post the exact steps from when you started Plex to when the problem occurred, we will work on getting the issue reproduced and fixed.
Thanks for the help!
Same thing happening to me also.
I'd suggest making this a "global" setting (for all users on the xBox) where the user/admin can set the amount of minutes before this kicks in. ZERO being DO NOT ENABLE THIS OPTION. :)
This way for those of us who do not need it we can disable it.
Carlo
If this is happening during video playback - then it's definitely a bug - regardless of having a setting, I'm afraid.
If you are getting this reliably, could you please let me know your xbox setup (kinect/remote control/voice activated/gesture activated) as well as what steps you take in the app to get to video playback. I'm obviously missing the vital step to trigger this issue at the moment.
Thanks for the help!
I have xBox one with kinect. Turn on quickly option enabled. Voice controls enabled but also use media remote and gestures.
Plex is setup normal, running from a NAS media device via a wired connection.
I've tried the hard reset option and it worked for a day. Issue has now returned. Dimming after a few minutes then going black but audio continuing.
Please let me know what other details are needed
Thanks! How are you playing the video? Do you launch the app using the media remote? Do you select play on a video, or do you use the gestures?
Are you doing any seeking, or changing the video options (subtitles, quality etc) at all?
Running Kinect using standard dashboard and it dims for me. I did a hard reset yesterday to fix the issue, but it's just started doing it again.
It's happened when starting the app using voice controls and when using the xbox controller to start the app. Happens when watching TV Series and Movies.
Sorry you're seeing this. If you do have more information on how you're starting the video playback, that would be great. It sounds like dashboard and kinect are irrelevant right now - so I'm more concerned about how people who are seeing this issue are interacting with the Plex app.
We're obviously looking into this now and trying to get it fixed up. All extra information will help. Thanks!
Same here but oddly enough it doesn't happen with every media, from my tests it only happen if I am starting to watch a media from the Xbox, if I started watching from elsewhere and am resuming it the dimming bug doesn't apply. I have an Xbox One with the "regular" dashboard, a Kinect and am using media remote.
Thanks.
Bonus question: any chance you will implement a way to change the subtitle size on Xbox?
So we've managed to reproduce the dimming issue - but only if the video is paused and the audio/subtitles/quality are then changed. Currently the 'pause first' seems the critical piece, but I'm worried this doesn't match any descriptions here.
If people are getting the screensaver kicking in, without hitting pause manually and switching options - could you please provide details of how you started playback, any interactions with the player and also your PMS logs from around that time to see what transcoding activity was taking place.
I was in a game so double tapped the xbox button on the controller.
Navigated to the plex app icon started that.
Navigared to my file i want to play which was The Fall - 02x04 - Episode 4.mp4
Stated watching.
It kept on dimming so i had to keep on nuging the controller stick on the Xbox controler.
I have an Xbox One no kinect do use my harmony remote to control it sometimes but in this occassion i think i was using the xbox controller. I didnt change anything regarding subtitles etc dont think i even paused it.
As far as iam aware everything is upto date on release versions.
I have attached the log file i think is of interest for you if you need something else just let me know.
Hi I confirm that I also enabled subtitles in all cases I had the issue. I have Kinect, instant on. Latent stable realease of dashboard. I also use a remonte to lunch Plex and navigate in Plex.
Happy to know you managed to reproduce :)
I have tried different approaches. I have the normal dashboard (latest version), no Kinect, language set to Dutch, 1080p video/audio via HDMI, use a harmony remote or the controller and the latest PlexPass built of the OS X Server. The Xbox One is set to go to sleep in after 6 hours of inactivity. This is what I have found out:
Restarting your Xbox One via settings or via holding the power button for 10 seconds doesn't matter.
The first video you play works fine. It doesn't matter if you open the app via Home or your Pins. Subtitles or not doesn't seem to influence the case.
If you play another video than it will play fine for around 5 minutes. Then the screens gets a bit darker. This goes on for 5 minutes and all of a sudden the screen is black.
If you go "back" you return to the information screen of the video you where playing, from here you can resume the video. Al goes well for 5 minutes and then it happens again. I have seen an episode this way.. it doesn't stop after 4/5 resumes.
Closing the App doesn't resolve the problem. Only restarting your Xbox One does the trick.
So I watch a video. Restart my Xbox One via settings and watch another video.
None of these problems before the latest update.
Update:
You don't have to play a video to have the dimming. The issue also happens when you leave Plex on the homescreen.
I wonder if the screen also turns to black if the app is running in the background (in the tile). I check that later today..
I have an Xbox One with Kinect, suffering this issue as well. As far as I know, fully up to date.
When you navigate to Plex, antoninegri, do you see the app logo and spinner, or does it take you straight to a library page? I'm unsure if the application is actually starting fresh.
xain09 - you can also (not ideal, I realise), quit the app from the dashboard by using the menu button on your controller when over the Plex tile. I'd be interested if you can get the issue when you do this.
Not reproduced it 'clean' over here yet, I'm afraid.
If you are finding this issue, please also report the pages you saw in the app. Did you see the Plex logo on startup, or did you get straight to the main dashboard? Did you go to any settings or user switching pages? Did you go to a season/show page, or play the video directly?
The more detail we have, the better. Hope to get to the bottom of this soon. Thanks for all your help!
Think but not hundred percent are but the work Plex and a spinning indicator.
I did have one instance where it was struggling to open just spinning away no Plex wording. So went to dashboard to start again then got the Plex word and two spinning icons one below Plex as usual one actually in the word Plex.
Yes. Quitting the app via the menu-button does not solve the issue. Only a restart will fix the issue for the first video, the second will have it again..
Resuming or restarting Plex does not affect it's behaviour. I always relaunch plex from the pins so it restarts and doesn't resume where I left it last time in the interface.
For it works when I do a restart. Go to plex via the pins so it starts up from scratch. Play whatever video immediately. Works fine just as long as the tv series or movie plays. Play another episode or movie. Boom! issue is there and won't go away. I just restart my xbox one from the settings menu and continue with the next show or movie I want to watch. This always worked for me. Never did it ever play the second video without the dimming issue since the update. Before the update all 100%.
Also resuming or starting a new video also doesn't have any effect on the playback.

I've have also been getting this issue, I have a Kinect enabled, standard dashboard, UK XBox One. We started getting the problem around 2 days ago.
Plex is going straight to library, video played from On Deck via voice control. Problem seems seems to occur after the video has been resumed after being paused (via voice control again).
I'll try what you recommended and see if I can recreate it afterwards.
Jen
I can concur that launching Plex clean and NOT pausing to change sound to AC3 5.1, does NOT result in the video dimming during playback. If I pause, change sound quality, and then play, the video will begin to dim every 3 minutes or so. I hope this helps with a quick fix.
I am on a stock xbox one with kinect.
