Xbox One New Update - dimming during video play

That would be nice. It getting tiresome to reboot 10 times very night :P

It may be a coincidence but the first time I encountered this bug started when I added the Smart Glass app to a Windows 8 phone. Up until then it had been running fine. I was using Smart Glass on an Android device and had no issues. The minute I used the app through Win 8 to control my xbox it started with the dimming issue

Steps to reproduce:

Play video. After 3-5 minutes the screen dims. Pausing does not change status and when xbox select command is given there are no green kinect hints on the controls like there are usually.

Video returns to normal when stopped and resumed, but then dims again.

Hey guys. Sorry for the lack of updates - we're working hard with MS to release a fixed version of this as soon as we can. We've gone for removing the feature for now, since we can't reproduce the issue with the steps many of you have.

Thanks again for the helpful steps and details. Will let you know when we know more.

Great to hear!

While working hard with MS, can you check to see if you can setup a PlexTest channel like you do with Roku?  This way we can have two Plex apps available and can help test things prior to "functional release".

Same issue here. Only seems to appear when I pause and select a different audio feed, then I have to do a hard reset.

I get this exact issue when I'm playing a video, pause it, leave the app and use another app / game, go back into Plex and play the video. Simply quitting the Plex app and restarting it fixes the issue for me :)

It was working fine for a couple days, then last night it dimmed again, but only after turning OFF the subtitles via Plex's OpenSubtitles agents. It was fine for the first 15 minutes, but once the subs got out of sync I turned them off, and that's when the dimming started.

I'm fairly certain this has something to do with subtitles. I don't watch anything related to subtitles and I've never had this issue.

For what its worth, here's a consistent, reproducible way to cause dimming on my Xbox One with Kinect.

1. Launch Plex (this can be a fresh start or an app switch)

2. Select a title you haven't watched yet (next TV episode for instance)

3. Start watching the show.

4. Pause the show

5. Move to the ...

6. Change from Stereo Sound to 5.1 Sound and exit

7. Show automatically unpauses itself and begins playing with 5.1 audio.

8. About 3 minutes later the dimming begins.

To fix the dimming for this episode,

1. Stop the playback

2. Exit Plex

3. Use the menu button to QUIT Plex.

4. Launch Plex

5. Play same episode (5.1 is remembered)

6. No more dimming (unless I pause and change sound again).

It works that way every time for me. Feel free to reach out to me if you need additional information.

I'll try this tonight. At least this is more convenient than rebooting the actual console.

FYI to everyone. The workaround that is posted above works. Not great, but better than doing a hard reset every time you want to change your audio feed.

I have a Kinect connected but I've found it only seems to happen if I leave it on to the point where the whole system shuts off because I've left it on and walked away to do something else for the moment.  Typically this happens when I pause a show or movie and then get caught up and don't get back in time before the system shuts off.  When I come back and turn on the system again it dims during shows.  I've found by just exiting the app and accessing it again the problem resolves itself.  Haven't had to do a complete hard reboot.

UPDATE2 Video cuts off after 30 mins audio continuesNeeds hard restart if xbox to recover :-(

I have this happen with exactly 5 minutes of play (used timer). If I tell the kinnect to turn off, then say no, video returns. Whole time audio is playing and movie is porgressing. Don't have this issue on other playback devices (ipad/iphone/roku). All latest versions of software, server is Mac Mini runing gigabit wired network. Normal Kinect and dashboard on xbox one.

Yea, basically any input via voice, remote or control pad will stop the screen saver from kicking in. (in my experience).

We should hopefully be getting the new update soon.

I just purchased the Xbox One, recently, and I also have the same issue of Plex dimming all the time.  I added the Plex app and it seems that the first 30 minutes is fine, but after 30 minutes goes by the app starts dimming every 60 sec. to 3 minutes.  The frequency at which it starts to dim is very random.  I hope this issue can be fixed soon as I love the combination of Xbox One and Plex App.

+1 suffering the problem.

Started happening last night when settled down with the family to watch a great film.  Wife and daughter not impressed by my shiny new Xbox One and want the Apple TV back.

No Kinect and my xbox one is dimming almost every minute.  It seems to take a while to start, but once it starts it is continuous.

So we've managed to reproduce the dimming issue - but only if the video is paused and the audio/subtitles/quality are then changed. Currently the 'pause first' seems the critical piece, but I'm worried this doesn't match any descriptions here.

I'm seeing this issue and it just so happens I am doing exactly what you describe - pause, change subtitle, dimming occurs after 2 min and black after 5. Kinect system, stock dashboard.

Shutdown the Xbox by holding you hand over the "X" button on the front of the console (not using the controller/remote).

Turn back on.

Use plex but don't let it "timeout".

You'll be fine until it gets triggered again.

Hi,

I am using Xbox one plex app, it was working fine until a few days ago when it started going dim after 2 minutes or so, then it stops completely - like the app has gone into sleep mode or something. This is happening every single time I use the app.

All other apps are working fine on the xbox one, and no other streaming devices are experiencing this problem.

Initially if I quit the app and restarted it, the issue would dissapear but that no longer seems to be fixing the issue.

If I press a random button every minute or so on the remote, the dimming / timeout doesn't occur but that is annoying as hell.

The only reason I pay for a plex account is so that I can stream to my xbox one.

I will need to go back to just streaming via xbox 360 and a connected usb drive at this rate.

Over Xmas when all the family is on a break and want to spend time together its very dissapointing.
