Xbox One New Update - dimming during video play

standard everything with kinect.

thought it might have been the xbox controller going into sleep mode or something after in-activity. so:

opened plex

browse to tv show i wanted

play

turned off the xbox controller (hold home button to get the xbox off, controller off option)

watching, then every 4-5mins screen dims.

same happens if i'm using the glass app on my iPhone. so can't be that.

i'm also being asked to goto plex.tv/pin a lot and make sure i'm logged in (only ever had to do this once before) i've had to do this prob 5 times in the last 2 days.

I just purchased a plex pass or whatever it's called to watch my movies on my new Xbox One BUT IT DOESN'T WORK.  Video cuts out.  Can I get a refund or something?

It could be me.. but when Xbox Live is down Plex still works and the dimming issues seems to be gone too.

This problem just started on mine today... It happens when I play an MP4 with direct streaming, but playing back an MKV that transcodes does not cause the problem.

I only found this because I have had problems with freezing playback on 1080p mkv transcoding after 20 minutes playback.

Then I transcoded the mkv with handbrake to mp4 to work around the transcoding problems with 1080p and plex freezing.

Now I uncover this issue of screen dimming, only occurring during direct streaming.

I have a standard xbox, no kinect

This is getting redonculous.

We were told a couple weeks ago by one of the admins that he was deactivating the dimming feature until it gets fixed, and yet it's still happening!

Now we're just using Plex to look at the pretty cover art and movie info, then we switch to the DVR to watch the actual movie because of:

1) the impossibly small subtitles (on a 150cm screen!!) and

2) this ongoing dimming

The dimming is still happening because the updated app likely needs to make it through the xbox app store which could take a while.

The fact that this critical fail bug is still present is keeping me from setting up my recently purchased (holiday sale) Xbox One + Kinect.  I'll stay on my 360 until Plex gets their ■■■■ together - at least the recent update to the 360 is solid and works great.

If this is happening during video playback - then it's definitely a bug - regardless of having a setting, I'm afraid.

If you are getting this reliably, could you please let me know your xbox setup (kinect/remote control/voice activated/gesture activated) as well as what steps you take in the app to get to video playback. I'm obviously missing the vital step to trigger this issue at the moment.

Thanks for the help!

I am also having this issue.  My current setup is as follows:

XBox One

Insignia TV

Verizon FIOS

Yamaha Receiver

Plex was installed this morning, and the videos being played are  MKV's.  The plex server version is 0.9.11.7 (on Windows 7) and 1.0.0.11 on the Xbox.  The videos are being voice activated.

Its December 29th and I am still having to constantly touch my Xbox Controller (literally) every 5 minutes during a movie, just to keep the screen from dimming!   #SOOOOOO FRUSTRATING!

I just started experiencin the issue last night out of the blue. I have plex pass and updated my server with the latest update when it came out 2 weeks ago. I am on the latest plex app for Xbox one and have been since it was released a while ago. No problems after either upgrade. Now all of the sudden last night it starts happening playing a 480p episode of nip tuck which I have been for the last couple weeks. Going through the whole series since my gf has never seen it. Now out of the blue screen dims then goes black hit a button screen comes back. Sound still Plays while the screen is black tv settings will display over black screen clearly related to plex app.

The sad part is, updates for the official Plex Windows Phone 8 app will appear super frequent - I've seen updates hit a day consecutive in row, at most a week or two. Why the hell does it take so long to push an update to Xbox???! Makes no ■■■■■■■ sense. I'm not blaming Plex, but something needs to change. If this is Microsoft, they need to get their ■■■■ together.

While I too have the dimming issue that eventually fades to black, I also have another issue that seems related. Just tonight while watching the movie Epic via Plex, I had fading, then no video but maintained sound. Pressing any button on controller brings back video. I have noticed that when the Xbox controller times out and turns off, that sometimes that action appears to be timed with the Xbox ceasing to play or begin to fade. In addition another issue is that instead of fading video, the Xbox plays a squelch sound through the speakers and then completely restarts right in the middle of Plex video playback.

So to recap I have noticed two issues. Same dimming as others and a total crash and system restart.

Issue experienced since 25/12/2014.

I am also experiencing this issue.  It is super frustrating.  The Plex app + Xbox one control of everything was my Christmas present to the family.  So far it is still unusable.

I note that the response was the 16th of December - can we have an update of when we are likely to get an updated app with this dimming feature removed?  Very happy plex user here - would just like more updates.  I know that it is the festive season.  Even an ETA or a "we will be back working on this from January 5th" would be nice.

Dimming

I have not been able to pinpoint the exact cause yet, but it does not happen to me all the time. I think I have noticed some tendency to start occurring if I interact with the file mid-playback, i.e. pause/play with the controller, wave my hand in a way it shows the hand on-screen. Voice commands do not SEEM to be doing anything.

Hope this helps.

I do have that exact same issue and this is really a pain, my Xbox totally crashes and restarts after around 1min with most of my 720p/1080p videos. Plex trailers are playing fine though, and no issue playing these videos through my Chromecast.

This hasn't happened to me (yet) but was at a family member's house over new year and it was happening to them. Constantly. Every five minutes at least. Would drive me insane.

Surprised none of the Plex people have provided an update - realise it breaks their sacred vow of keeping it shut, but this is different, it's not a new feature it's an essential bug fix for a problem that made the app unusable at a time when most people would have had wanted/had time to use it more than normal, and not a word since December 16?

+1 on this watching a mkv through the xbox one via Synology  using smart glass.

1st film i have watched via the xbox one, any news on how to fix this would be great

Standard Build XBOX One with Kinect

Come on Plex, we’ve been left with a pretty much useless app for nearly a month now and we’ve not heard a thing from you in over 2 weeks. I’m all for patience, but we’ve gone from days to weeks to nearly a month now.

I never had this issue until today.

Dims after about 5 minutes then goes completely black about a minute later

The only thing I did differently this time than usual is that I started the movie from the Xbox One smart glass on my

iPad. No idea if related, prolly coincidence but still worth noting here.

Another film this morning same dimming happening.

I seem to remember this happening on the Xbox 360 with the MyMovies App too...Microsoft tut tut  :D
