Xbox One New Update - dimming during video play

.... and thats why you make new "features" optional via settings menu ...

I too am experiencing this issue, but it's erratic to describe. No Kinect, and what's more interesting is that I've watched TV shows (Walking Dead) and films (Fury) without incident. The dimming/cut to blackness has only happened with animated movies (The Nut Job and Toy Story 2), both animated and both 1:85 aspect ratio. I can't predict why/how/when this issue occurs, but like other users I am a HUGE fan of the Plex-Xbox interface and can't wait for the fix.

Started to get this issue today, been fine for last week. Dims after a few minutes.

Xbox One, standard dash, kinect.

Jesus h Christ, this fix still isn't pushed through the Xbox marketplace?!!?  What the hell is taking so long @Plex??  And the sad part is the fix that is being pushed through just removes the bug by removing the feature, without even adding the stuff that just appeared in the 360 update.  *SIGH*

I too am having this issue and look forward to a fix soon.

Same issue. Xbox one. Standard. Kinect.

Can’t believe it’s taking this long.

The removal of the screensaver is still in the pipeline. Unfortunately the holiday times are a busy/difficult period for getting approvals through. It'll be through as soon as possible though. Apologies again if you're having trouble. I'll update this thread as soon as we have more info.

And please don't think this means we're not hard at work making the app even better! We don't publicise plans or releases, but that doesn't mean we're not working on stuff :D

(And not that it's much comfort, but I've used the app pretty solidly over the holidays and have still yet to see the issue :( )

I've run into the issue, typically going to the home screen quitting the app and re-launching the app will resolve it.

This might be a stupid question but what is the quickest way to quit the Plex app?

This might be a stupid question but what is the quickest way to quit the Plex app?

1. Press the Xbox button on the top of the controller, or say "Xbox Go Home".

2. Then move your selection over the plex app, probably in the main window.

3. Press the menu button to get a contextual menu with more options.

4. Then use the "Quit" option to fully close the app.

5. Press "A" on the app to proceed with re-launch.

If you try to open it too quickly after closing it may not open one your first attempt.

Happened to me a couple of days ago, nuked the app and re-installed. Haven't seen since. I've now experienced every issue listed for this app, I've had my Xbox one since Christmas Eve.  It's quite frustrating.

My Samsung TV has been faultless for over a year with Plex. Two Roku's and a Chromecast good too.

From what I can tell, if you let the plex app sit idle outside of a video for it to kick into the new dim mode, it will then use that mode from that point on until you restart the xbox or kill the app. If you start watching a video or don't ever let it get to the dim mode first, at least for me, it has been working as intended.

Got the same issues with the video dimming every few minutes on my Xbox One with Kinect. As a lifetime plex pass subscriber I think I can say hurry the heck up with the update/fix! There's no excuse for it taking this long to fix this. Also when are you going to fix the issues with videos glitching after a little over an hour of playback? You need to step up your game Plex. I really like your product, but get it together.

While the first is a known issue, the videos glitching after an hour of playback certainly is not. I would create a new thread and provide PMS logs to have you assisted better.

The issue is recurring even after the hard reset on the Xbox one. It seems random depending on the day, but it has come back to haunt me sporadically. What prompted me to look this up in the forums is it started again today and it took me two hard resets to fix the issue for now. Strangely enough it appears to start happening after I let the machine screen go blank after i hard reset the machine foe the day. Any ideas on timelines for a fix on this?.

Did any of you check if only certain file types are affected ?

Maybe this is something to look into.

(I also have never experienced the issue)

I "may" have a solution.  It may not work but I need somebody else to test this - as I seemed to have fixed mine.

Short solution - Turn the Xbox on ONLY after your amp and screen and other devices are alive and accepting inputs.

Longer Solution - A good friend suffered from this issue and I didn't.  Then when reconfiguring my system I had this issue.  So I spent some time to work out the difference.  Then I didn't have the issue.  The only variable was that the AMP wasn't working (which is where the Xbox is plugged into).  I have now tested this and can replicate the issue and fix the issue.  It may not work everywhere and may be only on my system that this fix works on.

My logic as to why this would fix it is as follows - If the Xbox's HDMI doesn't see a valid alive box on the other end of the cable the Xbox will turn off.  That's a fact.  So this leads me to the logic that the HDMI connection is smart.  Now if the Xbox starts and doesn't see a valid HDMI connection, it's protecting itself by going into a power save mode.  If it doesn't recognise that it has a valid connection then it turns down the screen on the way to a shutdown.  If when it starts it sees a valid and strong HDMI connection, it doesn't go into the power save and hence doesn't do the screen dimming.

Anyway I wanted to share to see if this might fix the issue...

Enjoy Plex as I do...

Thanks Dom C. I understand about the holidays; just gets frustrating. Pardon any hot headed responses directed towards Plex regarding this.

Cheers

Thanks Dom C.  I appreciate the working environment.  If possible, can we have an update once every couple of days in future?  It was quite a while between updates and whilst some ICT folk may understand that Release and Change Management Processes take time, consumers often don't.  Hearing nothing back after many days on a "hot topic" forum topic like this is the equivalent of being left on hold for hours.  Just an acknowledgement like the above would be great.

Just my two cents.

Kinect

Standard Dash

Dimming Issue

Very annoying bug this one :)

But I do appreciate the obvious effort you guys are putting in to fixing this, there are hundreds of other software companies (many much larger) who respond far less so ty and am looking forward to the fix soon!
