I sort some of my recent addition files by date added. it depends on their folder. others I sort by release date. others, music for example, I sort alphabetically.
in the last week, the sort feature has disappeared when accessing my library though my nvidia shields. I’ve checked settings, checked options. nothing. I see search, library and categories. none of which are helpful. everything seems to now by default be alphabetical .
has this ability to sort by user preference disappeared ?
@BigWheel I’m having same issue as OP. Using Nvidia Shield as Plex Agent to access NAS based Media server. The Plex agent on my iPhone and desktop are unaffected.
@FordGuy61 I’m not seeing a lot of options (PMS?) to rollback or update the Plex app on the Nvidia Shield. Am I missing something?
Update: PMS I’m guessing means Plex Media Server. I’m not using Nvidia Shield as a Plex server. Just using it as a Plex viewer agent. But I did go ahead and try to install the Plex Server, and still no sort in my Plex Viewer.
Thanks for the reply BigWheel. It’s my own server, local and dedicated, running FreeNAS with Plex in a Jail. My setup have been running just fine for several years. When I access my Library’s with:
iPhone - Plex app: I can sort a library
Desktop - browser Web Player: I can sort a library
On the Nvidia Shield I was running plexapp.android version 8.1.2.18135
I went into the Nvidia Shield settings and removed all Updates for the Plex Player. I can sort a library again with the default Plex App. I think the default plexapp version started with 5.x or something.
Thanks Ford. There is no problem with my Plex Media Server because I can sort a library just fine with 2 different players on 2 different devices (iphone and desktop). The issue is with the latest version of the plexapp Player on Nvidia Shield. So I’m going to pass on the suggestion to update PMS … will just introduce more variables at this point.
I also noticed I’m seeing same message as reported here “Plex Not Connected to the Internet”.
I didn’t really care about that message as Movie Trailers work, and I can access my Library remotely. But now I’m wondering if there was a correlation. I normally keep my Nvidia Shield & Plex traffic Outside of my VPN tunnel but recently it picked up a DHCP setting, and was routing Inside the tunnel. I don’t see how the 2 issues (sorting & Internet connection) could be related but thought I would add this nugget.
The issue is how the Plex client interacts with PMS. As Plex releases new versions of a client you may need to update PMS, even to maintain the same client functionality.
Look at the two other threads in the earlier posts. For Android clients it appears to have happened with the 8.1.x release. When Android clients updated to 8.1.0 their ability to sort disappeared. Both were running older PMS versions, PMS 1.12.x and 1.14.x. Updating to a current PMS release resolved the issue.
Different clients built on different platforms. What happens with one is not indicative of what happens with the other.
Ahh, ok, that makes more sense Ford. Yes, I’m running PMS 1.12x. I think you hit the nail on the head!
I don’t like updating servers when things are working fine. Usually creates more pain than the new features are worth - for me.
I’m looking through the APK’s for a release prior to 8.1. Frankly, ever since Plex broke the XMLTV TV guide, I’ve been losing interest in Plex. The recent push to partner with studios is also not sitting real well with me. Do you know if support for the XML guides is back in newer server versions? That might sway me to stay with Plex rather than jumping to another option.
If you want to use XMLTV you need to click the “have an XMLTV program guide…” to enter the info for your XMLTV file. You don’t enter a zip code for it.
Regular guide data by entering your zip code, which is not XMLTV, is limited in the regions data our provider gives us which there are too many too list out somewhere and unfortunately can change. Sometimes choosing a close by zip code that has the same channel lineup will work.
Seems a bit like semantics to me - “XMLTV” vs “Plex Guide Data”. The guide used to work fine, updated PMS, and then it doesn’t. I’ve tried a half dozen local zip codes and chalked it up to Plex doesn’t want to support guide data any more.
It’s not hard to sort a list of zip codes and share a text file. There must be 50-75 local zip codes that would receive similar broadcast channels in the Philadelphia area. Go try and hope = a broken feature set to me…
Update: There are about 348 zip codes near me in South Eastern PA that should receive same broadcast channels as my town. I just tried over 100 zip codes - none of them work in Plex. So, I consider Plex EPG data broken and vaporware for US locations.
I just solved this same issue.
I have a Shield and Shield Pro. The media server runs on the Pro. The Plex client on both machines were missing the sorting and nav controls in the movie library view. Both clients are current.
I checked in the Play Store and saw that there was an update available for the Plex server. I don’t know why I didn’t get a notification or why autoupdate didn’t work. I manually updated and then I had to reboot the Shield Pro twice and the Shield once to restore the functionality. So for me, it was a Plex server issue.
