Still haven’t had any issues with Prefer HD! Works really well!
My comment above is rather long but hope the info is useful!
Haven’t upgraded yet to 1.16.1.1246 as I’ve been setting up and transferring over to unRAID, so just running the latest Public Version. Just encountering one issue currently though with one show disappearing from the schedule after it is put in the library. Recording removed from Schedule after
Heathrow... was set to start 1 minute before 20:00 and 1 minute after 20:30. Recorded fine, 1 minute before and after. 19:59-20:31.
After the recording finishes, it changes the tile back to the airing time from EPG and pushes it underneath another recording that started at the same time and is still recording. That recording also has the same 1 minute before and after setting.
Maybe keep showing the same times with the scheduled extra minute (19:59-20:31) on the tile to sort this out?
Hopefully the new EPG transition goes well once it hits Public Server Version.
EDIT: Sorts out after the recording finishes as the in-progress recording tile changes to match the same EPG airing time slot format. So maybe keep showing the airing slot +/- the extra time set.
Set to Prefer HD, no channel limiting and Plex set it to record on the SD channel, when available on 105 (HD channel). Also doesn’t have NEW on either channels listings, when it’s airing for the first time today. It’s S1E1.
If you go down the guide & set it to record on the HD channel itself at 9PM, it adds to the schedule as recording on the HD channel (105) - correct, just the outcome I expected the first time with Prefer HD enabled.
If you set all episodes to record, it has the same episode recording on 005 & 105 at the same time, then the same episode on 044 (Channel 5 +1).
This only seems to happen with Channel 5 airings with no Season or Episode number (just shows a date).
Tested with a few other shows that don’t have a Season or Episode number, on another channel. Set it to record All Episodes and just schedules one on the HD channel, instead of on the SD, HD & +1 channel.
Went back and tested a different show on Channel 5, with no Season or Episode number, Plex scheduled recordings on all 3 channels. 100% an issue with Channel 5 and shows with no Season or Episode number.
Apart from BBC1 for regional news is there any reason why you guys aren’t just disabling the non-HD versions of these channels?
What reason is there to have a Channel 4 when you have Channel 4 HD for example, makes life a lot easier as you don’t get these issues when it reverts to SD.
Makes the recommended part of the guide clearer to navigate as well, think I’ve only got about 30 channels enabled on mine as most of freeview is just trash.
I know it should work the way you want it but this is Plex, save yourself the stress
Users in my household, who use my Plex Server for Live TV are more used to seeing channels BBC One .etc at the beginning. When using Android TV (NVIDIA Shield for us), when you select an SD channel but there’s a HD variant available, it selects the HD channel to tune. So a higher quality for the user without having to scroll all the way down to 101 and beyond.
Yeah it’s the way it should work, and did work. For my use-case, it’s just best to keep them enabled and report issues when they arise. But for others, it would be easier to disable them as you say
Also 5Select 055, maybe just all Channel 5 channels. Also when that show airs, it always has that days’ date rather than the original airing date so Plex is just recording the same episode over and over again. As the date on the EPG doesn’t match anything in my library. Have reported this on the form.
Egypt’s Great Treasures With Bettany Hughes
Tonight at 9:00PM on 055 5SELECT
It Shows 8/8/19, but there isn’t an episode airing for the first time tonight. NEW indicator isn’t set which is correct. Plex had it scheduled originally to record, but not anymore. It recently did an EPG refresh. If the date shown on the EPG is meant to be the original aired date, it should be 8/3/19 but as it isn’t scheduled anymore, it isn’t much of an issue for me.
Just for clarification, are the dates on EPG airing blocks meant to show the original airing date, or sometimes the date when it’s airing again (today for Egypt’s Great Treasures With Bettany Hughes as an example? I seem to see both on my guide.
Also Gardeners’ World, Tomorrow at 8:30PM on 102 BBC2HD doesn’t have NEW indicator.
Gardeners’ World recorded Yesterday, now gone from Yesterday, and put under tomorrow 8/11 on Plex Web with a Play Button. Even has a totatlly different timeslot than the original recording yesterday.
Plex added it as S52-E22 yesterday after recording which is correct, but the guide shows S2019-E22 so maybe why it’s being scheduled again?
I have it set to New and Repeat Airings as the new EPG doesn’t show NEW for this show, but it shouldn’t be recording an episode already in the library?
EDIT: Looking even further along the the Schedule, another weird tile on Plex Web for S2019E19 and even says Recorded Successfully. Doesn’t show on iOS. But the top scheduled recording is for Episode 19, which is in my library already too!
Fixed this issue. The new EPG has recently started stating S2019 when previously it just gave the date so didn’t match episodes on the EPG to existing recorded episodes in my library. (Plex previously matched them to Season 52 after recording, which I preferred)
A few previous examples above but upcoming issues -
Channel 018 More4 - Thu, Aug 19 @ 6:55PM - The Supervet S11 E5 is set to NEW but isn’tNEW .
Channel 018 More4 - Thu, Aug 22 @ 6:55PM - The Supervet S12 E3 is set to NEW but isn’tNEW .
It does look like a Plex Web issue. I will discuss it with the Plex Web team. May need to capture requests and responses in the browser through the browser dev console
The dates in the EPG should be the originally aired dates
If the episode doesnt have a Season/Episode, this date is used to match against TVDB to get metadata
Also looking into this. May be it is related to the Plex Web behavior. This is the aspect I am following up

ITV 003 - 13:00PM ITV Lunchtime News says it’s NEW - has a date of 11/6/19
Not seeing too many airings with “today’s” date anymore, when they shouldn’t.
ITV2 006 - 13:50PM The Ellen Degeneres Show - has today’s date, but no NEW. So not sure whether it’s meant to be a new episode or the date is just wrong. Might be an odd one to investigate as not sure whether the guide would need to show the original airing date in the US or UK, probably US to get metadata.
A few shows with today’s date without NEW though -
ITV 003 - 10:30AM This Morning - Pretty sure it’s a daily show so should have NEW
ITV 003 - 12:30PM Loose Women - Same thing I think.
Don’t watch them so wouldn’t know, but will put these on the form as errors or things to investigate.
