I am currently experiencing the same issues with 1402 on synology NAS. Any thoughts about me rolling back to 1226 and delete Tuner and DVR, then updating to 1402 again and do a clean install of TV&DVR, just don’t want to make a bad thing worse. I am not sure of the impact of rolling back to 1226.
Did the exact same and having same results.
Were you able to delete the old TV/DVR
I was able to uninstall the DVR by basically deleting all the Plex Media files that I could find from my computer. Most of the files are in " %LOCALAPPDATA%\Plex Media Server". I am not recommending that anyone does it, but it worked for me. My libraries are still updating and I imagine it will take another day or two before it is done.
Folks are reporting success in rolling back the PMS to 1226 and deleting the DVR from there, then installing the newest version PMS. That never worked for me. I was able to delete the DVR, but I always had to input the IP address upon reinstall of the latest version and it always sat and spun endlessly after that. I am not sure where the DVR information is, but apparently it is not deleted by a normal update. Things started looking better when I reinstalled Plex and it found the HDHomerun Connect as a new device, without inputting the IP address, and the process went smoothly from there. There has to be a better way to update and I wish the folks at PLex would mention it.
Just adding my 2-cents - I’m running Plex on a CentOS box. Rolled back to 1226 and was able to delete the DVR, but after updating back to latest Plex version - still seeing the same problem like everyone else. Fresh install is just not a legitimate option for me - so I’ll guess I’ll just have to wait and see.
EDIT:
Steps outlined by @Djurrep in above post worked for me. I just had to roll back to 1226 FIRST, then delete the DVR - then run Optimize / Clean / Empty Trash. Upgrade back to latest and re-add the DVR. Then everything has worked as expected since then. Wife is glad to have the TV back
Thanks so much for this solution. My Live TV/DVR wasn’t working since EPG came out (now on 1.16.3.1402). I actually didn’t need to run Optimize Database. I knew it would work right away when adding my DVR back PMS found my HD Homerun connect (no need to enter the IP and force a connection). Thanks again!
Happy you solved it.
I wanted to share some insight to others having this issue…
…a colleague at my work has the same NAS and has been running the latest version of Plex server (v1.6.1.1291) on the NAS (Asustor AS6404T, ADM v3.3.2 RJ12).
Two days ago he purchased the HDHomeRun DUO (mine is the Quattro, but otherwise our setup is identical).
He was able to successfully setup the DVR with an XML feed.
The above tells me that the issue is, as someone else posted, related to users who had a DVR setup PRIOR TO upgrading Plex to one of the recent 1.6.x versions.
Is it correct to presume that Plex will be providing a fix, rather than expecting that all affected users will find a way to safely downgrade Plex, delete the old DVR, and then upgrade Plex (without losing meta-data or breaking iTunes plug-in or losing iTunes playlists)?
When you uninstalled PMS and reinstall did you have to re-scan your entire library
Yes, I did have to rescan all of the libraries. It took about 45 minutes to delete the " %LOCALAPPDATA%\Plex Media Server" folder, and much, much, longer to re-scan everything back in. At least Plex does all of the work. I got so fed up with trying everything to delete the old DVR setting and set up the new one, that it was worth it for me to give it a try. There must be a better way, but nothing else worked for me. I never did completely get rid of PMS version 1.16.0.1226. It still shows up In Revo Uninstaller, along with Version 1.16.3.1402, but it will not uninstall. I am not going to mess with it, since the Live TV/DVR is working now for me. I do wish that there was an automated uninstallation program that completely removes Plex and all of the registry entries for occasions like this, because it looks like the new DVR feature may need to start with a fresh install for some situations.
For those who get a spinner when adding the XMLTV guide, can you please let me know the model of your NAS, or operating system for non NAS devices? I have a build with additional logging to help track this down that we need some people to try.
For what its worth, I followed Howard’s suggestions and that worked for me. It wasn’t pretty because it required a few attempts but worked in the end.
I already had latest version and HDHomeRun Prime was not detected. But I restarted and immediately went to DVR setting page and deleted DVR. Upon first restart, it had the DVR setup screen, and clicking that showed that it detected the existing HDHomeRun Prime. HOwever, before I could go any further, I got one of the spinners on the continue button and it appeared to lock up the DVR again. Performed a restart, and the second attempt no longer detected the HDHomeRun Prime. However I went ahead and entered the IP and hit continue as fast as I could going through the steps. I eventually got past the screen I was stuck on back when it wasn’t working and my new DVR setup took hold.
Wanted to offer my experience to anyone who is still wondering if trying the Howard maneuver will work. I think it will, with enough restarts and attempts.
I run a NUC server front-end with CentOS 7 and a nfs mounted Netgear ReadyNas 314.

My system is in the USA, PC - Windows 10 - 64 bit, build ver. 1903, ,CPU - AMD 6-core Phenom II, DVR HDHomerun Dual-channel Connect w/ latest firmware.
I am now running PLex Ver 1.1.6.3.1401 with the live TV and DVR working, after struggling with the uninstall/install procedure multiple times. I finally deleted all of the “localappdata” to get the latest version of Plex to load the DVR. The workaround of downgrading to version 1266 and deleting the DVR at a specific time, as listed above, did not work for me. Probably because my system is older and boot-up takes a long time. I probably should have unchecked the load Plex on startup button and tried it in safe-mode, but the last time I checked, getting Windows to load in safe mode is a chore in itself. I see there is a new version of plex, 1.16.3. 1433. I am on the Beta channel for updates and am a little skittish to update again, since Plex is working now. Not a big fan of the “update until it quits” theory. I still do not know why I could never totally remove version 1226. It always stopped with a warning at the built in installation routine, so I quit trying.
Yup, I just hopped from 1.15.x.xxxx to current version, deleting all DVRs in between. No issues restoring my DVR w/ a HDHomerun, PLEX even preserved my recording priorities and series recordings nicely, which I was pretty sure would get lost. FYI, I even waited past the point where Gracenote schedules had run dry, no problems. Thanks Howard.
hi @DaveBinM I’m running plex 1.16.3.1433 in a binhex-plexpass docker on Unraid 6.7.2. I have the previous model of the HDHomeRun dual tuner (the not so square looking one) that previously worked fine with plex. The HDHomeRun has the latest firmware, I know that because I ran the Mac app they provide to check it was working and saw it do a firmware update.
@DaveBinM as this appears to be a known issue, certainly Colin over at IceTV is copping a lot of flack about it, is there some offical thread/issue we “paid up” plex pass users can watch to see when our previously working fine LiveTV / DVR features will work again???
I am having permission errors with the most recent version. Plex cannot read or write to my network drive. The permissions are opened up all the way. Was not a problem before 1.16.3. I wonder if the issue is related.
If there is anyone still get a spinner when adding the XMLTV guide? If so can you reply with which platform you are running on and I can provide a build that includes increased logging so we can track down what is causing the issue.
@chrisallen I use the binhex-plexpass docker on Unraid. I’m pretty tech savvy but editing a docker is a bit above my pay grade. @binhex might be able to help (assuming I’ve tagged the right person.
are we talking about a build of plex with additional logging or are we talking about some plex addon/plugin with additional logging? - sorry got no idea how live tv works in plex, ive never used it - a custom build of plex is going to be a bit more work for me.
