When I tried ti scan files again, it just imports the name as the old scene-looking filename, even though that name no longer exists. If you do a Get Info on the newly imported record the filename is correct but the name on that record is the old filename for some reason.
Are they mp4/m4v files? If so, the embedded metadata may be causing issues. Leave your corrected file names in place and change your agent settings such that Local Media Assets is at a lower priority than the primary scanner for the agent (Settings -> Agents):
I’d do this for both Plex Movie and The Movie Database. Then, try the Plex Dance again. If that doesn’t work, try a Fix Match on them and use The Movie Database as the agent. I’ve read elsewhere on these forums that the Plex Movie agent can have issues with movies whose IMDB id has 8 numbers in it.
Weird. Having LMA at a low priority in the list and doing the Plex Dance should at least have gotten rid of the scene file name showing in the library. Do you still have the scene name in the directory structure that the file lives in? That could cause issues. Using your example, it should be something like:
Movies\ <--- Library points here
Till Death Do We Rot (2019)\ <--- This directory is optional, but recommended
Till Death Do We Rot (2019).mp4
Other than that, I’m not sure what to suggest, given what you’ve tried already.
BTW, here’s IMDB id length issue I referred to earlier. I don’t think it would affect matching against The Movie Database however.
OK, I got them imported with the right file names. I did this by editing the metadata on the mp4 file to match the new file name.
You can do this by right clicking on the file in File Explorer and selecting Properties. The old filenames are in the Details tab. You can change then there.
Then, after the Plex Dance, it comes in with the correct filename. It still doesn’t match.
And then when you try to match it, nothing happens because is returns the cached results from previous attempts. You can tell it isn’t searching because it returns the result immediately. I still can’t find any way of clearing that cache, wherever it is.
All names should precisely follow the naming guide. Your file names are great examples of what NOT to name your files.
The best time to fix names and structures is halfway through The Plex Dance - that clears the old bundle and writes a new one - hopefully with the right stuff in it this time:
Renaming the files was about the first thing that I did. My point was that Plex was deriving the old filename from within the file metadata, which can’t be seen in any way other than how I showed above.
I have the recorda in Plex, with the correct names, and they won’t match. They are not even searching, as they are pulling the results from a cache that I seem unable to clear.
Did you do every step of The Dance, in the exact order described?
Did you move Local Media Assets under ALL tabs in shows and movies - or just for Plex Movie?
Try clearing your lMDB cache - same place as TVDB’s cache:
As a test, try performing a (fix) match on that title again. This time, specify The Movie Database as the agent and clear the year field, leaving it blank. It should return a 90% match for the correct movie. However, in my test, when selected it pulled limited metadata (just the synopsis).
