New EPG and release

@ozmotogp It’s what we signed up for when we paid for Lifetime Pass or one of the other passes, and selected Beta channel for the updates.
I for one must agree in one respect that we are being used to test things, but now it’s live and Public for 24 hours, it’s now free to roam and those not brave enough to use the Beta are now being made to become testers and report issue with the new EPG.
I really don’t mind Beta testing, it’s when the issues reported don’t get fixed, especially the one I’ve been having since Android app v7.15.xxx where the new player fails to play any video from the server. but it plays Live TV, the “Team” know about it, but the fix hasn’t been fixed and it’s now into which version 7.17 or 7.18???
I just wished they would fix the broken things first than add features etc…

@mw0dcmplex I enjoy beta testing when nothing “Mission Critical” is involved… I would never upgrade a phone or computer to a beta OS since I depend so heavily on them. That goes for Plex, as well. I delayed to the last minute, especially reading all the problems. Finally, I bit the bullet since I had nothing important scheduled this week. It seems as if everything went perfectly. After refreshing the schedule found my standard shows still were scheduled to be recorded and a show I was looking to add to the schedule next week appeared and I was able to successfully schedule that. It seems as if I have an unusual experience given all the problems I’ve read about, unless people who had no problems don’t write… I’m in the US and use OTA for my programs.

On my main Plex server, I am sticking to 1.16.0.1226 and so far, I’m still getting updates from Gracenote.

On a test Windows PC, I installed 1.16.1.1291 and found several issues as posted here. One channel is time shifted by 3 hours. One region is missing channel info for several channels. Several shows are being listed incorrectly as [NEW]. My work around was to set up zap2xml on the test Windows PC, which works quite well.

I’m going to wait until my main Plex server stops getting Gracenote updates in hopes that a solution will be found for the new EPG before I’m forced to update. If not, then I will use zap2xml instead. Zap2It uses Gracenote for it’s guide info, so at least the guide info remains unchanged.

In case anyone is interested, the following link is quite helpful in setting up zap2xml with Plex.

Still seeing new episodes of Taskmaster, ‘Today at Wimbledon’, Eastenders, etc. without a ‘new’ tag, tried deleting all my scheduled recordings and removing all the DVR stuff and still nothing.

And now it’s even worse, to General Hospital Monday didn’t record, Tuesday didn’t record, and Thursday is showing as not recording. Not sure quite it’s a DVR anymore vs random recorder!!!

@dapaquette Zap2It works great for me except that all shows are marked as SD in the EPG.

Thank you for reporting this. It appears that there are issues with the setting of the new / premiere flag for episodes. This is being looked into

Hi @sa200, thank you for responding

I’ve just submitted a report regarding the DVR recording that did work later and a couple of channels that don’t have any programs listed.

Thanks for reporting this issue
Appears to be missing original available at data for these games episodes

You could try a manual guide refresh to see if it makes a difference. If it does not, please let me have a fresh screenshot showing the issue (identifying the incorrect New flags) and also the exact lineup name used during setup (you can find that out in Server Settings for Live TV an DVR in Plex Web. Also what country, post /zip code was entered during setup - you can send that to me by private message

Thank you

@jebrossard Thank you for bringing that up. Just to be sure that an HD show would record in HD and be properly tagged in the library, I tested it. Fortunately it does. I can see where it could be an issue if a show is on both HD & SD channels. Or someone uses the HD Only setting. Fortunately in my area, all the SD channels, like MeTV, air only the classics.

Ideally, it will be nice when all the bugs are ironed out in the new EPG. I have submitted my findings through the Plex reporting, but from the number of issues I’m seeing people post, I’m wondering if it’s going to take a very long time to get everything ironed out.

@dapaquette That was my issue, programs available on both SD and HD channels. Instead of HD Only I had to restrict the recording to a certain channel.

I also started using zap2it and I am also seeing that all the shows were marked as SD, however I have not had any issues with missing recordings. So far so good. I am using the perl script to pull 14 days of guide data every day and I am letting plex refresh it daily. My server runs linux so I have a cron job doing this for me. I might keep using this until no more issues are reported for the new guide.

here is some of the errors I’m seeing in epg data either the date airing is very old or there is no episode info for cartoon Network at zipcode 01545

@sa2000 Reported my issues by PM, thanks.

Thanks for this useful post!

I’m pretty sure this is an issue specific to the mobile Android app. I have reported it, as well as others. So far, I haven’t seen it acknowledged by Plex.

Everything seems to be finally falling into place with the new EPG for me. My lineup is finally correct, and most shows now have actual season and episode numbers or at least a date season number for things like local news. However, I noticed a show that was working previously is now just showing a date for its season and episode number.

The new episode of Unidentified is showing 7/5/19 for its season and episode number. It previously showed correctly. This week should be season 1 episode 6.

Also, even though Ancient Aliens to the left shows the episode is new, it’s not showing up in scheduled recordings. I’ll wait until Friday to see if it actually records or not.

Things seem to have improved now. I’m getting the right lineup for my region (“Freeview STV Central OTA Broadcast”) but I’m still seeing problems with programmes on Talking Pictures being identified as shows rather than movies and with odd air dates:

Is there anything I can do to help remedy this?

Spoke a little too soon. Both the BBC Scotland channels (SD on 9, HD on 115) get “Radio Programming” on the EPG, and trying to play them results in BBC 6 Music (channel 707) playing instead.

The other series I was having an issue with is Ancient Aliens. Tomorrow shows 2 new episodes in the guide on Plex. The first episode that shows as new is actually a repeat from last week, but it doesn’t show a season or episode number, just 6/28/19 (which at least lets me know it is an old airing). The next airing that actually is the new episode is listed as S14 E5 (although it has the correct episode name) when it should be S14 E6, and that’s why it doesn’t show up in my list of scheduled recordings, because last week was actually episode 5 of the new season.
