New EPG and release

Pardon me, I’m new to the DVR part of Flex.

Is the EPG information coming from Rovi?

If so, is there any way to get it instead from Schedules Direct (Gracenote)? That’s a significantly better data set.

Yes. I don’t think they specifically say, but it’s Rovi.

Not directly from Plex. Gracenote was the previous provider they migrated away from. If you don’t mind a little manual work and a minimal extra cost, you could subscribe to Schedules Direct and generate a XMLTV file to use for guide data. They source their EPG information for Gracenote.

yeah, I’m a longtime WMC user who migrated to SD a long while back (thanks, EPG123).

I’m not against a little work. I already have the cost in place. $25/year is nothing for what you get.

I’ll look into getting an XMLTV file into Plex.

EPG123 will work! If you’ve used that in the past, it will be easy for you.

The issue with “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow” is still open with our provider. I have not had a response yet. I will escalate

“Austin City Limits” should be sequenced from now on

Our EPG provider are now planning to split combo airings into individual episodes and this should resolve the problem. I do not know how soon this will be - hopefully sometime later this year.

That’s fine and dandy, but can they stop labeling every single combo “new” and randomly numbering them? If they’re gonna leave them combined then do not set S/E data, while they’re working on the eventual split

Alas, other than my WMC machine (which runs EPG123), I have no other Windows machines in the house. And frankly, I think it’d be a tad silly to keep that running (and taking up space!) just to grab guide data. Not impossible, but…

Look into mc2xml. There are a few threads on these forums that walk you through using it or I can help as well.

Spectrum Cable, Portland Maine, PBS Channel 1279, Frontline TV Show, all season and episode numbers are incorrect.

It looks like the CW schedule has been updated/corrected for next week. Not sure about the following week as it is too far out to tell.

Stay Vigilant!

we need to wait until the problem mentioned here is over and then you can let me know if issues remain

This would be so much easier if Plex used Gracenote data instead of Rovi data.

And while you can get Gracenote data yourself at no cost, it would be a violation of the data provider’s terms.

Doesn’t Emby and/or Channels use Gracenote data? I think so–which would mean that Plex could as well, if they wanted to.

They once did and now don’t. There were reasons for that and I wouldn’t hold your breath about them switching back.

Well kinda. It has been updated and most appears correct, but The 100 lists S7E4, when it should be S7E3.

And also, this Sunday 5/30 it lists Stargirl and Supergirl as new, but they are reruns.

This is the latest I can find on Emby:

Live TV Guide Data Now Included with Premiere
Emby will be gradually switching from Schedules Direct to Gracenote for Live TV guide data. What does this mean? This means if you’re in the USA, Canada or UK, you’ll no longer need to setup an account with another website nor pay someone else for this data. You’ll simply enter your zip code into Emby, select your channel lineup, and we’ll handle retrieving your guide data.

We believe this will provide a better experience for Emby users with fewer setup steps. The data from Gracenote is also quite a bit richer, and we will be looking at how we can take advantage of that to bring new Live TV features to Emby. Going forward, Live TV will require Emby Premiere in the web app, where previously this was not the case.

So I think you’re misremembering about the change. Yes, they changed. No, they don’t use Rovi. They use Gracenote.

Or did they since change from Gracenote over to Rovi at some point? Can you post a link? Can you explain about the “there were reasons for that”?

Plex used Gracenote upto approx 12 months ago, then they scrapped it for the current provider

Emby used to use Schedules Direct, but when they stopped being open source, it was against the terms of SD to use it inside Emby (Same as it is a violation of the terms to manually set it up in Plex now), so they moved to Gracenote (extra cost to Emby)

Gracenote & Schedules Direct are the same, one is for commercial software and the other is for open source/free

It’s Pony on Nickelodeon 45/845 is back to repetitive nonsense.

June 8/9/11 all claim to be airing S01E05 and all have completely different episodes…

The data is total rubbish.

Lets wait until the current issue with the EPG data is over and then do a refresh and we can see if still wrong.

We are currently running an ingestion which should complete within a few hours and then an hour for cache to clear
