New Plex Guide Very Poor in UK

Just to say still showing as Apprentice (IE) this week

This is not going to be a quick fix as there are implications and impact of the change needs to be assessed and understood.

This is not a new issue and was reported last year but it is only now following my new investigation that the cause of the problem is understood.

The issue is due to the show year (starting year) - like in this one it would be 2005 for the UK show, not being included in the matching process. This leads to ambiguity and the Irish show gives similar scoring when matching

The fix for this would be to include the year in the matching but that may lead to issues on other recordings - if the year is not accurate. So this needs careful assessment and extensive investigation

In the meantime, please continue to use “Fix incorrect Match”

Ah OK, hadn’t realised it would be a longer-term fix. Thanks for clarifying.

agh, now that’s interesting. I have noticed a couple of shows where the start year has changed mid season or between seasons at the file-name level and folder-name level.

I will try and dig out which ones those were…

[edit: typos]

Surely, including the year is the correct way to do this, I assumed the year was used in matching as it is part of the naming guidlines?

If the year of a show is wrong, then why are the epg provider not providing the correct year, we shouldnt need workarounds just to fix an issue with the provider giving an invalid date

This article suggests you can use the year for shows, have we been naming files incorrectly for years becasue this date gets ignored?
https://support.plex.tv/articles/naming-and-organizing-your-tv-show-files/

I was only referring to matching recordings after the recordings complete. This has no relevance to normal library scans

We currently have some shows in the EPG that are set to 2019 and some of these may be correct and some may be wrong. That is why we cannot just turn on including the year. The implications need to be assessed and steps taken to avoid any impact

Is it not the same thing?

I have a library called TV

If I manually add a show to it, then it matches and uses the date if included
If the DVR adds a show to this library why does it not match the same way

The DVR matching is a different code path from normal library scans - and we currently do not include the year. I don’t know why but that is the current state and we need to address that

Thanks for clarifying

I can confirm that the Christmas channel is back and working, and that you’ve made my wife very happy. Many thanks for the help and update.

Looks like we all need to be aware of this:

Note the UK specific info…

Thank you for posting link here - I was going to go through the active threads and do the same

This should address the recent issues where we had some channels disappear or added channels failing to show up

That was a quick fix ! Both channels 50 and 60 are now correct

OK, so here’s one (I think):

019 Dave:
David Gorman Modern Life is Goodish” saves as (2019) but it should be (2013).

Hi @sa2000. After the overnight (for the UK) maintenance last night and the recommended full refresh thereafter, I have now lost three channels from my guide (Freeview West Country OTA Broadcast). The three channels in question are:-

001 BBC1 South West
006 ITV2
017 Really

I have tried to delete and recreate the tuner but the situation persists. Interestingly, the channels that I have lost are absent but some channels for other geographical areas (e.g. That’s Humber) have appeared.

I guess that this is going to be back end rather than client fix but either way, raising it for Plex’s attention.

Thanks
James

Thank you for flagging that. Will get it looked into.
I am going through the lineups - I had "047 - “4 Seven” as missing.

Problem on Freesat South:

Crime and Punishment scheduled for MON 21 OCT 21:00 on Channel 4 is showing in the guide as the US drama instead of the UK documentary:

Probably the same issue as with “The Apprentice”. On TheTVDB the American show is written with the “&” symbol, whereas it should be written in full (“and”). They will need to change the listing to reflect this so it is matched correctly.

Lost channels have been restored this morning.

Please do a full EPG refresh to pick up the channels

This got fixed and the change has already fed through - an EPG refresh should show the year as 2013
